loop-de-loop
Carrowinds announced Fury325, the worlds tallest and fastest Giga coaster. Meanwhile, SFSTL teases the announcement of the refurbishment of a dark ride. Or you could be positive for once and see it this way: At least three other Six Flags parks (Great Adventure, Over Georgia, and Discovery Kingdom) are rumored to be getting a horrible, low capacity carnival flat ride. Meanwhile, Six Flags St. Louis is replacing its rundown, low capacity dark ride with one that should be superior in every way. I think it's hard to think positive when your home park is SFSTL. YOUR GETTING A REVAMPED DARK RIDE AND NOT A CARNIVAL RIDE. Six Flags actually put THOUGHT into next year's addition for SFSTL, instead of another Boomerang. This time, SFSTL is getting a wise investment. If that isn't something to be positive about, I wonder if you actually WANT a Super Loop.

HWFan
So has SFSTL pretty much ignored the ice bucket challenge? I don't see any post on their Twitter or Facebook pages about it. They couldn't figure out how to include an up-charge without appearing haughty. Or you could just wait. In order to make sure to include as many full time staff as possible, they are doing it during a full time employee event. In the mean time, many departments have been doing it here or there. I'm being completely serious because going through your post history, you just always seem so negative. If you can actually be this negative about the park adding a state-of-the-art dark ride, then there seems to be very little that could make you happy. There's a difference between joking about Six Flags and just being negative overall. The majority of visitors have the absolute time of their lives, and this addition is only going to make that even better. Even with the Tsunami Soaker, it may not be the biggest addition, the vast majority of people absolutely love it. You have the freedom of speech and every right to post, but a lot of your comments just seem condescending and dampen the mood for a lot of the people who come here excited to talk about the park. HWFan
Isn't the challenge that you have to do it within 24 hours? Holiday World never gave a deadline, and most of the people doing the challenge are just single people uploading it immediately onto Facebook from their phones. The original challenge was also that you would donate $10 for each person you nominated when they did it, but now to keep from donating, a lot of people say, "do it in 24 hours or you HAVE to donate $100." The majority of visitors have the absolute time of their lives, and this addition is only going to make that even better. I get what you're saying, but "Time of their lives" in reference to most visitors is kind of a stretch, don't you think???

Maybe time of yor lives was a little over the top, but a good time or enjoyable visit would definitely be in order. I don't understand why some people can't realize this park will never be the star of the chain. We will at best be the 5th or 6th best in the chain. A chain which many don't have warm feelings towards to begin with. Some will never be happy with our park. I don't really want to say like it or leave it, but it is the only thing we have in the Saint Louis metro area. If you don't like our park great, go vist SDC, HW, SFGAM or wherever you want, it is a free country, but why bash a park that local management is trying to do the best they can with what they are given? Well, I mean when Thunderbird was announced the thread exploded with people saying that the park was doomed because another park was getting a better ride than us. But when another park is getting a far worse addition than ours people continue to complain.

A lot of folks have been waiting for a decent Signature coaster to arrive at SFSTL for a long, long time. And every year we are disappointed time and time again. ...so it sorta leaves a bad taste in your mouth. And Yes, I for one do go to all the regional parks around St Louis. In fact, for the past 3 or 4 years I have been doing just that. I know SFSTL will never be the Star of the Chain, but when even Holiday World announces a B&M Wing Coaster and our last Coaster install was a used Boomerrang - sorta makes you wanna to pull your hair out. At the end of every night during Fright Fest last year I would sit at the front gate, and I always thought it was amazing how much fun people had when I would talk to them. It does really depend on the person, but if you just watch trains of Mr. Freeze come back, you will see over and over a look of just pure happiness on a lot of the rider's faces. Either way, the vast majority of visitors have a fantastic time.

There is some good stuff about SFSTL, like Mr. Freeze and American Thunder, but that is all that is unique about the park (and Mr. Freeze has a clone at SFOT). Coaster Capital of Missouri! If you look between 2007 and now, Six Flags isn't half bad compared to HW. HW built four flat rides (plus a kiddie frog hopper) while SF built two. HW built two water coasters while SF built three coasters. HW built two slide towers while SF built two. HW built two kiddie water park areas as well as a failed water ride. It's funny how nobody complains about HW building only a smaller version of a traditional carnival ride and a not-too-exciting slide complex (although I do love Hyena Falls) for two years in a row. I think that Tsunami Soaker beats Mayflower and Boomerang beats Hyena Falls, at least for the general public. And American Thunder & Pandemonium are two of my top three favorite coasters in the park. Also, you have to remember that Six Flags is way more built up than Holiday World to begin with in the dry park side. Even though they aren't new, Batman & Mr. Freeze are both absolutely fantastic rides. Does Six Flags have some sizable shortcomings? Yes. Is it as bad as a lot of people act like it is? No. It's a theme park. Seriously. It shouldn't make you want to pull your hair out. It's made for fun, so there isn't a reason to be so negative. But that's all I really want to say about that. Edit: ^SFSTLMO almost none of the visitors who come to SFSL have been to SFOT. People act like clones are a horrible thing.
CoasterWoz
Six Flags St. Louis is not, nor has it ever been, a "Destination" Park. It is, and is operated as a "Local or Regional" Park. This is the same for MOST Six Flags Parks. There are maybe 3 "Destination" Parks in their portfolio. The majority aren't. The corporation wants them to be basically, the same. That's why Six Flags "Buys in Bulk" on rides and there are so many clone coasters. Each park does have it's unique features though...St. Louis has The Screaming Eagle and the Boss...even Mr. Freeze and American Thunder (though, as is noted elsewhere, there are clones of these in other parks). There is NOTHING wrong with this business model. In fact, it's smart. Buying in bulk allows discounts on rides for the company. It allows guests at all parks to enjoy similar experiences...and the locals come back again and again because it's close...and it's fun. The enthusiasts may not think highly of it and hope and wish and pray for this super-ultimate mega coaster that such and such park has. However, in reading this board, everytime a new coaster is announced there is a certain percentage of people that immediately downplay it...no matter how spectacular the stats...see the thread on Carrowinds and Holiday World for proof of that. Parks know they will never please everyone...they build what they think will please the most. Enthusiasts are part of that equation...but are not the bottom line...the GP is. The more the GP like something...the better for the park. THEY are the cash flow of Amusement Parks...not enthusiasts. I would argue the Boss is a pretty incredible coaster...it may be rough as heck...but, it's massive and is POPULAR with the crowds. People want to ride it cause it's there...and it's BIG. Nothing wrong with that. I would love to see my local park build the Next Great Thing...but, it's probably not gonna happen...cause it's not in California or any other "Destination" city. Regardless of the upkeep, and other issues of the park...it's still fun...and my kids love going. That is more important than any amount of loops, or airtime or "Force" any coaster could ever have. Bring on the new Dark Ride! At least they aren't closing down and selling off the rides.
SteveStL
All valid points, but I will continue going to Cedar Fair Parks until SFSTL has something that warrants the Price Of Admission and Parking fees. For the record, I did say Six Flags 'Buys in Bulk' but didn't criticize it plus I never have harped on at anytime the subject of Cloned rides. I totally get regional parks and they way to manage them and provide attractions. I just think STL needs/deverses a Signature Steel Coaster, plus some new flats (Bumper Cars specifically). That's about it...

I don't think bumper cars would be a good idea as we just removed them this year. They were removed last year and I understand - they were old, used and abused (original attraction from '72). However every amusement should have bumper cars. They need to replace them imo. It is a solid family attraction.
