robbalvey Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Apparently, Microsoft is launching their own version of "Google Sattellite" or something like that. From what I've seen, the images seem to be MUCH better. Check out this picture of SFMM: SFMM as seem by Windows Live! Interesting image. The quality seems MUCH better than the google one, yet this was obviously taken a while ago since Scream! isn't there yet. --Robb
zburns999 Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Wow! I saw this yesterday. It was Cedar Point, and I have to say that this is very impressive. I have one question though. Is this a work in progress? Because many places don't have the "birdseye view" option.
Hattuchili Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Yeah, Windows live is really good! I found a few cool things and the bird view option is so awesome! However, I have seen that here, too: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20929 --Sören
nemesis-storm Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Robb, I've been looking at this site too today. There is a thread on the Flickr - Rollercoaster group about this. http://www.flickr.com/groups/rollercoasters/discuss/135160/ Here are a couple I've found already Cedar Point PKI Paul ' I hope these work' Chapman
Real Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 The CP ones are from March of 05 too because MaXair is built but they are still doing all of the groundwork around it. Such great images. Now only if their direct overhead stuff was that clear.
robbalvey Posted December 9, 2005 Author Posted December 9, 2005 Whoops, sorry. I didn't catch this because it was in the random thread. But since we're talking about coasters and such, we'll leave this one open. --Robb "Why would someone post theme park pics in the random thread anyway?" Alvey
Token Yankee Guy Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 ^ I would, because I didn't think the Local Live thing overall didn't relate to theme parks even though I put pictures of SFNE up as an example of what their new features can do. How about we merge the two threads?
Stitch Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I was having fun and found the King Cobra track that is being stored behind Flight Of Fear
dandaman Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I was just gonna post, wondering what on Earth track was doing there.
dandaman Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 I don't understand why they would do all these amusement parks, but not Disney World. :? They do have Disneyland, though! So, Robb/Elissa, where's your house? Maybe it'll show up from the SFMM Bird's Eye View.
momo1tx Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 This is weird, when I look at Knott's with the arrow pointing north, I see Windjammer. But with it pointing east, I see Xcellerator. What's up with that?
Token Yankee Guy Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 This is weird, when I look at Knott's with the arrow pointing north, I see Windjammer. But with it pointing east, I see Xcellerator. What's up with that? Depends on when they took the pictures. Same thing happens when you change the view of SFNE from north to south. The 2003 waterpark expansion vanishes.
WillMontu Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I did find Cedar Point, Knotts, and a few others. Not only did I find Disneyland, but I also found the castle too (it's difficult to see unless you REALLY zoom in) Anyone found any hidden Mickeys? There's one just west of California Screaming
Homer Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 ^I found the Hidden Mickey Lake from the aerial picture at WDW. Not only did I find Disneyland, but I also found the castle too (it's difficult to see unless you REALLY zoom in) Thats our Tiny Castle!
dougr Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 I don't understand why they would do all these amusement parks, but not Disney World. :? They do have Disneyland, though! So, Robb/Elissa, where's your house? Maybe it'll show up from the SFMM Bird's Eye View. It's probably the data they had from TerraServer-you could choose from aerial photo, satellite photo or topo map. Only some places had color aerial photo. They had an ancient picture of SFMM in black and white, the one on Google Earth was much better. However, the picture of Disneyland is exactly the same as Google's. In fact, it was taken the last day my family was at Disneyland. Judging by the time of day, we're probably at Pirates or over at DCA watching "It's tough to be a Bug". As a Linux user, I clicked on your link-it starts to work, then not- why am I NOT surprised? UPDATE: Working now - OOPs!
dandaman Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Anyone found any hidden Mickeys? Tons. P.S. Look for one in a cornfield near Clermont, Florida.
momo1tx Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Clicking around, I noticed something else about the time gap between pictures. Here's a SFA Penguin's Blizzard River before and after: After Before
tngdiablo Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 SFGAdv's aerial photo in Windows Live is just as old as the one on Google Earth but it's in black and white. What the crap?
momo1tx Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 That's because it's not the "bird's-eye" photo. Those are only availible in a few metropolitan areas, and SFGadv is not near one of the major cities listed. I noticed that Knott's when viewed north-oriented it has Windjammer, and when viewed south-oriented it has dirt from Windjammer's demolition. I get satisfaction out of looking at it with Windjammer, then reversing the view and seeing it reduced to dirt.
Token Yankee Guy Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 ^^^ If that is the same dimensions of Diablo Falls that SFNE will be getting from SFAW. It looks a lot longer than the footprint of PSP, yet thinner for width. If they build it, I hope they build a midway path around the other side of Colossus.
pianojohn Posted December 10, 2005 Posted December 10, 2005 Those pics are sweet! Thanks for the heads up!
