thrillrider
So this past weekend we decided to pop into Kentucky kingdom and kings island for a quick visit. Overall, we had a great time at both parks. Being that admission to Kentucky kingdom was only $30 for out of staters, it was the perfect time to visit the park. The crowds were not bad at all, and the weather was great. I'm excited to see the new coaster next year, but did not see a single shred of evidence yet. Here are the pros and cons of our visit to Kentucky kingdom. Pros... 1. This park is not a mega park, so its possible to just take your time and enjoy the day. 2. The park does not offer fast lane of any kind. 3. The park looked great, and was nicely landscaped. 4. Storm chaser and lightning run are 2 great coasters, and I could spend all day riding them over and over again. 5. The rides were all in great condition. The cons... 1. I really hate to knock a parks staff, but the ride and food employees just didn't seem to care much. Not all, but most ride crews just seemed tired. The food service crews were slow and could care less. 2. Food....The food prices were crazy high at this park. It cost me nearly $20 for a bbq pork sandwich and a side of fries. 3. The parking lot. Could they make it anymore confusing? 4. I found that the placement of the waterpark to be very odd. 5. Why is this park not open in October? It seems like the perfect park to have a Halloween event at. Here are some pictures of our visit to the park. I'll put up the kings island shots soon. Our first stop was this thing. I have to admit, this ride was great. Not sure why more parks don't have one. This is a great replacement for the enterprise. The roller skater coaster is a lot of fun. The park has a beautiful carousel. Old school The crown jewel of the park. My boys were not quite tall enough, but had fun with the test seat. A few shots of the ride. I wish people would use common sense. This sign is promitley displayed at every coasters entrance, yet I still almost got clocked in the head by a cell phone. Its idiots like this that ruin it for everyone else. At least I heard the phone hit the structure and break into pieces. Still a decent coaster, just wish they had another train. Station shot. Chocolate and blue ice cream swirl? Interesting. The motion theater The days offerings. Pre show area. We found penis rock! Our next encounter. T3 I think of the movie when I see this. The restraints are a huge improvement from the otsr's. Too bad the ride shuffles violently. Giant wheel. Our final coaster of the park. Love this coaster! Very underrated. I failed to get many good shots of this coaster. This park has an amazing drop tower. Interesting ride. It did not play music though. We left the park at around 7pm, and headed to kings island for some night rides. On our way there, we were flown over by a paraglider. Kings island pictures coming up... Canobie Coaster
Great report! I saw this just before I started working on my Kentucky Kingdom report. I'm glad they replaced the Angry Birds 3D movie with other ones. That movie was not very good.

michaellynn4
Glad that you had a good time! Makes me want to get to KK that much sooner. However... Pros... 2. The park does not offer fast lane of any kind. ...I don't get how this is a pro for the park.
grsupercity
Nice report so far. Kentucky Kingdom is one of my favorite parks out there. For some reason we have so much fun at this little park

Diamondbacker27
Awesome TR! I'm glad you had a good time. I'm honestly not really sure why the park doesn't have a halloween event. I know that they did when Ed owned the park before and they put on Fright Fest when Six Flags owned the park. I would also love to see this park get later operating hours. Because the lines flowed nicely, and and you didn't get stopped in line by groups cutting in front of you.
ratdogg68
Nice report, they don't do a Halloween event because there are so many other Haunted Houses in this area, that's is just not feasible. All that would come is Season Pass holders and they don't spend much money.

thrillrider
Time for some kings island goodness! No matter how many times we visit this park, we want to return as soon as we leave. Cp may have the bigger coasters, but we seem to have a more enjoyable time at kings island. It has a certain charm to it. We were able to enjoy all of the coasters(and multiple rides on several of them), without fast lane. We were also able to do several spin and pikes as well. Our timing seemed to be off as far as the shows go, but we were able to check out blood drums and were not disappointed. I took my last spin on firehawk, and honestly can say that it won't be missed by me. The xflight paint was peeking through the firehawk paint, and the ride was in ruff shape. I'm really curious to see what comes of this ride. They had flowers under the sign to pay respect. The only bad experience we had at the park was with food operations(no surprise). We chose reds dinner, and wished we didn't. It took over 45 minutes for our food to arrive, and we were missing the chicken from my salad. After finding an employee that actually knew anything, I was told that they were out of chicken. I then asked for my dinning credit back(we have the meal plan on our passes) so I could go elsewhere, and was told that they couldn't credit it back. I got stuck eating a nasty, dry burger that I had to wait another 15 min for. Never again are we eating at this place. Onto some pictures..... Welcome to Haunt at kings island. RIP Firehawk Pumpkin eater is a new fright zone this year. Front gate. So this is what has become of Banshee's gift shop. I love amusement parks at night. Blood drums is a great show. Kings island has a power tower as well. A few shots of the antique car construction. Vortex is not going anywhere But does need some new paint. The same cant be said about this ride.. Nice touch. Midlevel torture device. Just look at everybody blocking the sun from there eyes. The timbers that are mystic was running great. Diamondback doing its thing. Beautiful day, beautiful park. I still enjoy this ride, even with the midcourse bringing you to a stop. The waterpark is transformed into a family friendly Halloween activities zone. The beast was kicking ass! The train is always a good way to get off your feet for a bit. That's it from kings island! Maybe I'll have a few more pictures soon.
prozach626
Thrill... I say this with absolutely zero hostility, but I seem to read consistent complaints about food operations from you. Why in the world don't you try alternatives to eating shitty park food and waiting all day for food? I'm telling you, Emily and I have nailed our formula of packing a cooler lunch and leaving for dinner. I know people say that taking a cooler on road trips over several days is a pain, but it's not. We bought about one bag of ice per day and drained the cooler once per day. That's also taking into account that we pack our cooler really healthy, so almost all of our food needs to be cooled.. Also, it seems to take way less time, or about the same, to leave for dinner. It might be cheaper as well if you get fast food, which is comparable to park food, if not better. Nice TR. I agree with you in that I enjoy Kings Island in the summer way more than CP.

I agree with you in that I enjoy Kings Island in the summer way more than CP. Its more about covinance. We have 3 kids, and we have the dinning plan. There really is no excuse why the food service is so bad at cedarfair parks. Kentucky kingdoms food lines moved at a decent pace, but the prices were outrageous. I can deal with and expect high prices at a theme park, but it's a little outrageous that a pulled pork sandwich and a side of fries cost $20. Even Disney has cheaper food prices. It takes more time to leave the park to get a meal(even in the car) with 3 kids, than to stand in the horrendous lines at kings island. Not to mention, I have a bad foot and it's a lot more walking to go all the way out to the car. As far as food goes, we enjoy park food(for the most part), and only really eat that type of food while we are at the parks. At home, it's all about healthier options. We also bring snacks like grapes, and orange slices for the kids.
prozach626
Gotcha. I figured it was along those lines. Just something to consider in the future in case your plans get worse. I guess without little ones slowing us down things happen a lot quicker and are more convenient.

jedimaster1227
I didn't realize how much years of sun have dulled Firehawk's red paint job down to brown... Thanks for sharing this great report! I really do have to get back to Kings Island eventually... The last time I went I was able to ride Son of Beast with a loop.
