Hello everyone. This is my first post here but I've been coming to this site for a while, mainly the videos. I saw this contest thingy and I figured I'd give it a shot. I shot some video at Magic Mountain last October so I'm gonna submit that in the contest and try my luck out.

Hello Robb, Elissa and all the TPR team for this second contest.

I have a video which may be borderline so I prefer asking the question before submiting it.

This video takes place in an indoor park called Planète Magique.

Planète Magique only opened a few months between 1989 and 1991.

The video has been taken last year, a few months before the complete destruction of the park.

It was a guided tour of a park closed since more than 10 years !

All rides were unique prototypes and there weren't really a coaster apart from La Navette which was a strange mix between a launched coaster and a space shot.

See these 2 pictures of the single track :

For more informations about Planète Magique :

PlaneteMagique.com (an excellent "false official" website)

PlaneteMagique.Daboo.com (the souvenir website of the closed park's guide)

There are less than 10 seconds of footage of La Navette (not working, you only see the track as on the pictures) in the video and I wonder if it fits the rules of the contest.

I've have also another question : I will submit my entries on a data CD or data DVD (I can't sent a DV tape as I can't get a camcorder with a DV OUT).

I've seen that you accept both PAL and NTSC files. Have you got a preference between these 2 formats ?

Okay I have a few videos but none of them are good enough quality to submit. They are all exported from Windows Movie Maker. I have a Mini DV camera but not the firewire and the program that captures the video isn't very good. No firewire port on my computer (at least I don't think so). You guys are the experts, any way you could help me? Because otherwise these aren't .AVI files but rather MPEG.

You need firewire to be able to capture high enough quality video from your camcorder to the PC, if you're not editing high quality video, then you can't produce high quality video. It's as simple as that really.

Are you going to have a rule for the langue in the lyrics of the BGM in the videos? I have some good songs from Denmark that fits perfectly, but most of them is in that bastardiation of langue we call Danish, so I would understand if it wasn't allowed.

Hey man, Danisch sounds cool! So I hope they allow it !

I'm not going to use a song in my native language, because Dutch isn't cool LOL:D!

The songs/lyrics/anything can be in any language...the only rule is that the lyrics have to remain PG-13. We've had songs in our videos that have been in different languages too!

Im kinda leary about submitting simply because I just starting shooting lss than a week ago and only had a chance to film at one park and that was yesterday (not counting the construction tour at carowinds). I have put a 2:30 featurette of S:UF I think its pretty good but hey im not the judge...

I'm going to submit two of my videos to the contest. Is it okay if I burn them both on the same DVD? Since I don't have anymore DV tape or money to go out and buy more DV tape. Just thought I would ask. Thanks.

A little question :

I made a .avi file and it's about 1 GB big (4.58 minutes --> 6MB/s) and I'll be burining it in a DVD+ format! But, scince I know nothing about PC's, I still have a question... Are you able to play a data DVD-R+ that's burned with an European DVD burner?

(I would do it on a DV-tape if I had the technology )

My video was an MPEG but I converted it to Pinnicle's Studio 8. I rendered the video as an AVI but now when I play the video it says:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

Although, the video plays all the way through just fine. It's only after the movie is over that the message pops up. Will it still work if I send it in on a Data CD?

Hey, I have the same problem here (Pinnacle 9)! I'm gonna send it in anyway! It plays fine whole the way, just at the end when the entire video is over it gives that message! So there's no problem in seeing it, and it can still be imported in video-edit software afterwards... so I guess there's no problem !

PS: when play it with an other media player than the Windows Media Player I don't even get an error at all!

^ But will that play through a DV camera onto a TV?

That's how it NEEDS to be.

When I export an .avi file out of Premiere at DV quality, it's usually about 600 megs per 4 minute file.

A 100-200 meg file for your average submission doesn't sound like that's DV quality.

The preferred method of submission is just to send in a DV tape with your movie on it.

That way there's no question that we will be able to play it.

Okay I've got 3 videos ready for the contest. If I burn them onto a DVD+R using Pinnacle Studio 8 you will be able to do what you need to with them right? Just making sure because I don't want to send you a DVD and then find out that my videos didn't get in because it didn't work right. Thanks.
