I actually will admit to watching the documentary about them on Discovery Health Channel...

 

They are religious fanatics who do not believe in birth control and believe that they should have as many children as possible. They home school all the children and the older children help take care of the young ones.

 

Honestly, it creeped me out way too much.

 

Oh, and they all have J names!

It's like George Foreman and all his kids names are "George". Heck, his daughters name is Georgina. I believe spelled that way too.

 

But with 16 kids, imagine the food bills! I can only imagine their Thanksgiving. Pretty soon they're going to have to do it Jonathan Swift style...

Yeah, but it doesnt work like that, you'd get more money, but you'd still have more mouth's to feed, they seem to enjoy this idea in places like Africa, more kid's working = more money! But the uneducated fool's dont seem to notice that more kids = more food to be purhcased! Zing!

In Kasey's family there's;

Kasey, Kelly, Kendra, Kate, Kirby, Kristine, and then there's Denny! What happened here?! I'll never know.

This sounds all too familar somehow. I must have seen them on a special, as well. I, too and thoroughly creeped out. (Look at my expression in the avatar to see how creeped out I am) :shock:

I remember watching the Discovery special, back when they 'only' had 14 kids (the was pregnant with #16). They used a minivan to get the groceries, and the family travelled in a minibus. I wonder how they're going to get them through college.

I dont think there is anything wrong with using Birth Control but you could use a contraceptive like condoms. BC does come with its share of side effects that can effect any woman out there, some of the effects are not too pleasant.

 

You cant blame the two for having a healthy sex life though...

I remember seeing teh show about then when #15 was on the way, and they stressed that they were not in debt, did not get any sort of government assistance, and that all the children were well mannered and well educated. Sure I think it's odd that you'd have so many kids, but they really did seem like normal kids in that special. Older ones helped dress and feed younger ones and stuff like that so it didn't fall all onto mom, who served as mom, teacher, chauffer and chef! If they wanna have more, have more, so long as it doesn't effect my taxes!

And about college, I can almost guarantee you that every one of them will be drowning in loan debt by the end of school (that is, if the girls don't follow like mom and become baby factories!)

Amazing. Family of 18. Wonder what the poverty level is for that? my guess would be less than 125,000 annually. I can't imagine grocery shopping for 18 people. I mean, that's 54 meals a day! And forget about going out to eat, 360 bucks at OutBack @20 a head.

Their cost to get into CP would be 792.00 for admission alone. They could probibly get a group rate.

^^ Julie is absolutely right... these people pay CASH for everything... no government assistance or anything. They are building a 7,000 square foot home-much of which they are building themselves-that will include a commercial kitchen, dormitory style rooms for the boys and girls and 4 washers and 4 dryers in the laundry room. She homeschools all the children, all of whom are trained in a musical instrument.

 

Their opposition to birth control, Real, isn't side effects.... the don't believe in controlling birth!! They believe if you get pregnant, that is what God wants of you, and they acknowledge that their beliefs are not to be anyone else's burden, which is why they work hard to pay their own way. There are lots of families out there that don't have that kind of responsibility.

 

You can say what you want-I admit, I am not much of one for religious fanaticism-but they are all beautiful, healthy, intelligent children, and frankly I wouldn't mind if mine was more like one of theirs. But, then again, I would have to be more like them, which I am not.

 

What blew my mind, is that I go to Kroger's and for a family of 3 I spent $75-$100 a week. They went to the grocery and bought $800 groceries for THE MONTH. The mom admitted they have to go every several days for things like milk and stuff, but then, so do I.

Like many others, I saw that Discovery Special on this Family.

 

I didn't get the Impression that they were Sucking on the Welfare Nipple.

 

They seem to be able to Feed/Clothe/House this Family on their Own. (Which is impressive)

 

Those Home-Schooled Kids seem to Typically do Quite Well, and often Advance to College with No Problems.

 

I think the only problem with having so many children is the lack of personal attention given to each child. I mean common, with 16 kids you can only devote so much attention to a child, and that's something ALL kids need!

 

But, this is obviously a "Unique" situation, and this large family handles it very well.

 

I imagine the future for this family is continued growth, and I imagine they'll be just fine!

^ My parents were 41 and 45 when I was born-OLDER than her parents are-and I never felt that way. My mother is 80 years old now, and is just retiring from her full time job this week, after 29 years there.
