Hey TPR!

I received a very nice phone call this morning from Liz at the Discovery Channel and she has some very nice words for everyone here at Theme Park Review!

First off, to give a little bit more information on the show they are producing....

The documentary will focus on wooden roller coasters (yay!) and the renaissance or "2nd golden age" they are currently going through focusing on both the modern technology being used and the re-birth of the "classic" style.

The three parks they have chosen (quite obviously I think) are Holiday World, Beech Bend Park, and Six Flags Great Adventure.

I haven't been given any information about air dates just yet, but as soon as I hear something I will let you all know.

The one bit of information that I *DO* have, is that Liz and the nice people at the Discovery Channel are interested in having members of Theme Park Review attend some of their film shoots.

While I can't give any details just yet, I will say that if you live in the area of Beech Bend Park, please try to clear some time towards the end of October.

I will have more details hopefully soon!

Thanks again to everyone at TPR as their input really helped the production company, and a BIG THANK YOU to the Discovery Channel for choosing TPR for help in your research!

That's pretty sweet. Yeah, they definately made some good choices. Next year is the year of wooden coaster if you ask me. Only four major ones being built right now, but they are all looking like stellar ridse I don't live incredibly close to Beech Bend, but it's not terribly far. I wouldn't have much of a problem clearing time either.

Must...kill...marching band

Grr...I live close enough that I can go to BB, but i have a crapload of competitions toward the end of October. If it was this saturday, I could go, but otherwise...

Still, cant wait for the show to air

I really wish I still had Discovery Channel! Ah, but, again, I need to save up! Save! Save! Save! Or else, I won't be able to go to these parks next year !

^ From all of the above^

Maybe you guys living close to R&E could plan a Discovery Coaster Night, once they let you know when the show is to be aired? Hopefully, with time to plan, etc.

That way, a few of you locals (hi socalMAN123!) w/o cable can get a look-see, hmmm? And of course, excellent reason for a par-tay with Dueling Drumming Contests!

That suggested, I also hope somebody in the states will tape and or DVD the special, as we in Canada don't see it at the same time/date as you will. And when it finally is aired up here, it's usually not advertised at all, so I continually miss out on some of the coaster specials that do air on DiscoveryCanada.

^nice idea. So...anyone up for BB this saturday? or maybe pki and fearfest? basically its my last opportunity during "coaster season" so...yeah...

Hey thats sweet... It almost sounds exactly like the sort of thing I was hoping they would go for... Heck I think I made a post almost exactly to that sort of style.

I'm really glad they came here as I think the big coasters have gotten way too much attention recently. This is great. Thanks Discovery... I hope this will turn into an annual thing with TPR. Heck it can be a series...

Oh and how cool would it be to get a mention of the TPR forum members in the credits... Maybe just a special thanks or something... (where is the face_pleading?)

Yeah there definitely needs to be a wooden coasters special... (pitch it please... ) The public needs to know how great these things can be. Maybe throw some of these new wooden coasters on the video... I mean just have a group of different wooden coasters and maybe do a bit of focus on the different manufacturers and what they are bringing to the mix to combat the prevalance of steel coasters. You know like look at the millenium flyer trains from GCI, the amazing track that Intamin is making, and the amazing 90° banks from Gravity Group...

Personally I think we are in the middle of a rennaisance of wooden coasters. There are an awful lot of smaller parks that can't afford the latest B&M model with go faster stripes and many of them are now going for a custom wooden coaster instead of an off the shelf vekoma. It is a great move all around because the wooden coaster is unique and it will draw more guests than a ride people can ride almost anywhere.

I am really looking forward to hearing more about this project. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Please make sure Robb makes topics about updates or at least bump this to the front page. It has been a few years since the last coaster show I can remember from the Discovery networks.

Actually I just went searching and this was the last post I made on the thread. Sounds kinda similar right? I'm just excited as heck that they are doing it. Wooden Coasters needed a show to themselves. Especially with all the great ones coming this year.

I like that Quote. In your opening statement in the quote, you appear to be agreeing with someone. Who would that be?

I think that everyone who expressed their love for wooden coasters deserves A little credit for the outcome of the show.

I'm very excited that Discovery Channel is promoting wooden coasters. I hope the show is A success.

I'm not far from Holiday World or Beach Bend. I hope to attend one of the events. Thanks for reading.

Hey Robb, I go to school in Bowling green, KY nad live about 5 minutes from the park. I'd love to be a part of this so please post the dates and any additonal information when possible. I'd also like to add that I drive out to Beech Bend to check out the new coaster every monday and this thing is really shaping up well. The first drop is going to be great, you enter with lots of speed so air time should be great, then the drop twists the opposite direction of the banking when entering so it should be lots of fun. Holiday World watch out.

^ As soon as I get more details I will let you know. All I can say is that if you live within a couple hours of Beech Bend, there might be something cool for you to do in a couple of weeks.

And as I write that I have just heard from the park....

So "Save the Date" of October 28th @ Beech Bend Park and there will be "something" that TPR members will be invited to take part in.

I will have more details in the next couple of days, but for now, if you can make it on October 28th, please let me know!

I have two questions...

1) WHere is Beech Bend, and....

2) Does any body have a link to any information on the new wooden coaster? I didn't know about any new coaster there.

1) http://www.beechbend.com/Directions.htm

2) New GCI:

Beech Bend has officially announced the GCI wooden coaster that is already partially up right now. Sounds like it should be awesome, and considering how impressed I was by their last two efforts, Thunderhead and Ozark Wildcat, I am really looking forward to this! Plus, it's not too far up the road from Holiday World and The Voyage. Shaping up to be a good 2006 season...

Wow i don't think the train will be able to make it up some of the hills later in the course it looses to much speed in the begining.

Other than that it looks amazing

You are just pretty sure Robb?

Hey, this is really cool. I know I'm new around here and stuff, but once you find something out about Great Adventure, please let me know. I would be all over that and would hope that I could contribute a little bit and have a cool experience if they are going to have some kind of invite for the people that live near Great Adventure.
