I think they're just a good tourist attraction to have around. They don't seem to be too expensive to operate.

That aside, I went down to National Harbor today to get some tea from my favorite tea shop and took a quick picture of how its progressing. There's still a ton of construction going on around the docks for a new restaurant and the renovations to the docks themselves, but the wheel is almost ready!

The wheel itself, almost complete!

General dock construction and overview.

The only thing I didn't really take a picture of was the big restaurant going in next to the wheel itself. Wasn't much to show other than some walls and lots of bags of cement. It was a gorgeous day to go and walk down by the water though!

Funny, I was just in Alexandria, VA and noticed the ferris wheel was basically done. I wasn't sure if it was this ferris wheel, since it's kind of far from DC, but it looks pretty cool.

I haven't really been following this but is it over by the I-95 drawbridge? I'm sure it will still have nice views but it's really nowhere near the Washington DC landmarks (though you'll be able to see them from the top... barely).

Yeah, that looks like the Woodrow Wilson bridge in the background.

Uh, we drove by it a few weeks ago, and I must say, we were not impressed. It looks like your a little above average park model wheel. Also, my partners aunt rode it a few weeks ago and was very disappointed.( She is in her 70"s ) Not so much that the view wasn't "ok", but that for what it cost for one trip around, she felt like she literally got taken for a ride. Though she did say the only saving grace was that because it was so slow patron wise ,they did get to have several revolutions whereas normally it isn't. This is coming from a woman that has traveled the world too. When asked if she would do it again, given the cost, she said no. We only missed the ride with her because we had gone to SFA that day. And for that, her personal review, I am glad we did SFA instead.

I think if this was closer to the mall I would spring for it but at its location I wouldn't go out of my way. Would be cool at night to see the monuments lit up.

I really loved the National Harbor area the last time I visited, so if I went back I'd definitely consider riding The Capital Wheel. I don't know that I'd head there specifically for the wheel but if I was already there I don't see why I wouldn't give it a go!
