I had one ACE lady bitch at me about having to be so "enthusiastic" after I had gathered the group together and let them know what was going on, and I was all thinking "Lady, your club name has the freakin' word in it!"

 

First, thank you for calling me a "lady" and not a "creepy" something. Second, please accept my apology for sounding like I was bitching at you. I was not. I was -- or, I should say, I was attempting to -- make a joke. My sense of humor can be a little sharp at times, and apparently was not clear. To clarify for those reading this who were not present, Robb had been giving "stage directions" to those present along the lines of "TPR People: Act enthusiatic!" I asked him if it was ok if those of us who were not TPR people were enthusiastic, too. When Robb responded, "Yes," I thought he got the joke. If I had realized he thought I was serious, I would have apologized right then and explained (instead of continuing kidding with my husband about being "mean" to "poor Mr. Alvey"). I am so, so sorry for the misunderstanding. The last thing I want to do is cause any problems between our organizations. Again, I hope you, Mr. Alvey, and all of you in TPR, will accept my apology for any misunderstanding.

That being said, I had a great time Wednesday morning with all of y'all, and I enjoyed meeting those of you I had a chance to talk to and ride with and wave at the helicopter with. I AM A WINDSEEKER!

^ Sorry, 'bout that. The timing of your comment was just bad as it had come RIGHT AFTER I overheard a bunch of other ACErs complaining about how "happy" the TPR Members were being. So I just had kind of assumed it was an off-shoot of that.

Knott's Berry Farm has reached an undisclosed settlement with the family of a 12-year-old boy who was seriously injured when the Xcelerator roller coaster's launch cable snapped during a 2009 accident.

 

Every moment of the harrowing September 2009 accident -- from the initial thrill to the ensuing terror -- was captured by on-board ride video. It shows Kyle Wheeler sitting in the front row of Xcelerator when the roller coaster's launch cable whips toward the riders and splits the fiberglass car in half, The Times reported.

 

The severed cable lashed Kyle's left calf and sprayed debris in the face of his father, Russell, who was sitting next to his son.

 

Anita Wheeler watched helplessly from the ground as the 80-mph episode unfolded before her eyes.

 

"I literally thought I had just watched my son and husband die in front of my eyes," the mother from the Northern California town of Weaverville wrote in an online chat room shortly after the accident. "This whole experience has been terribly hard on my whole family. I am overwhelmed with emotion most days."

 

Over the ensuing months, Kyle underwent multiple surgeries to repair muscle damage to his leg and graft skin over his injuries. The operations were followed by physical therapy to restore function to his left knee and ankle.

 

And while Kyle has fully recovered from the accident, according to Art Morgan, the family's lawyer, the boy will need a $30,000 operation later in life to remove scar tissue. The family has racked up more than $60,000 in medical bills so far, Morgan said.

 

An investigation by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health found that the Xcelerator accident could have been prevented with proper maintenance, casting blame on both the theme park and the ride manufacturer, Switzerland-based Intamin.

 

The report said the snapped cable exhibited "gross amounts of fatigue" and found that the force of the accident sheared off 18 of the 20 magnets on the bottom of the coaster cars used for launching and braking.

 

Knott's reopened Xcelerator more than a year ago after making modifications required by the state report, theme park officials said.

 

"Safety is always our No. 1 concern," said Knott's spokeswoman Jennifer Blazey. "Our maintenance and ride operations crews work diligently to ensure rider safety."

A final event schedule with more details will be emailed to you prior to the event. You will pick up your tickets at the event during check-in.

 

If you are registering for more than one person, please complete a separate registration for each member in your party. Choose your options and click "add to cart" for the first person, and then come back to this screen again and choose your options and click "add to cart" for each additional guest.

 

Event Rules & Additional Details

 

- You MUST be a registered member of TPR's Forum or Club TPR to purchase tickets. Your guests do NOT have to be a member.

 

*NOTE* If your guest is a past TPR member whose account/membership has been deactivated or banned, they will not be allowed into the event and your account/membership may also be subject to being deactivated or banned and you may also not be allowed into the event.

 

- Cameras are not allowed on any attractions at the host park.

 

- All event participants MUST abide by ALL park rules and Theme Park Review’s/Club TPR's code of conduct and terms of service. Violation of park rules is subject to you and your guests removal from the park and your account being banned.

FAQs

- Q: What do I need to do to attend this event?

A: Simply register online and your event packets, tickets, and other information will be available the morning of the event. Nothing will be mailed to you. You must pick up your tickets at the event.

 

- Q: Will you have onsite event registration? A: Sorry, but no tickets will be available during check in. TICKETS WILL BE LIMITED so register NOW.

 

- Q: How do I buy more than one ticket? There is no place for "Quantity" in the store? A: Click add to cart twice.

 

- Q: Do you have to be a member of TPR to buy a ticket? A: Yes. You need to either be a member of Club TPR (Paid membership) or a member of the TPR Forum (Free Membership).

- Q: What is your refund policy? A: Once you have paid for an event ticket, there are NO REFUNDS. You are welcome to try to sell your ticket to another member, but it would not be possible to refund tickets.

Today was what should be called Windseeker Media day 2.0. As it seemed more geared to local websites and fans with not a news crew in sight. All around the park had a mellow morning set up for the small amount of people there with 2 hours of WindSeeker ride time, and for the 2nd hour Jaguar and Montezumas Revenge were added. The WindSeeker ride its self is a very fun, almost calm ride with a great view. But is not something I would label as a "thrill" ride. Unless of course you are scared of heights. Enough with the talk though and on to the pictures.

Seriously, Knotts put out a nice spread! too bad there wasn't much shade and it was 90 degrees out.

Since this is Fiesta Village everything was themed this morning. We also were given the "Are you a Windskeer?" pins.

You can't have a fiesta with out these guys!

So there you have it, WindSeeker, shiny new and open, go ride it!

^^This was actually from the early ride operation manuals from '94. They're at the ride, though I'm sure there's no way I could find evidence, unfortunately...

 

I don't think the ride ever actually operated with the requirement, I'm just quoting what I read.

I would have to believe perhaps it was read incorrectly? With the B&M inverts that were built in the years before Raptor, and the all the ones built afterwards, all being 54", I just can't see the manual saying 59". If B&M was suggesting that, then I would have to believe, somewhere, someplace out there, would have kept the 59" restriction. And that's never happened.

Sorry, old topic...Raptor's clone "Monster" in France has a height requirement of 1.5m = 59"
