Lucid Dreaming

This is something that I thought would be pretty neat for a while now. For those of you that don't know, lucid dreaming is when you're dreaming, and are aware that you're dreaming, and can control it and have all the specs you don't normally have with a regular dream.

Some people naturally have this, others have to work on it. It's because to our mind, seeing is believing, so we don't realize something was strange until we wake up.

Here's a strategy I found:

If you're not interested yet, take a look at this article:

http://www.lucidity.com/LucidDreamingFAQ2.html#techniques

Upon hearing about lucid dreaming for the first time, people often ask, "Why should I want to have lucid dreams? What are they good for?" If you consider that once you know you are dreaming, you are restricted only by your ability to imagine and conceive, not by laws of physics or society, then the answer to what lucid dreaming is good for is either extremely simple (anything!) or extraordinarily complex (everything!). It is easier to provide a sample of what some people have done with lucid dreaming than to give a definitive answer of its potential uses.

Sound neat, huh?

Anyone gonna give the strategy a try? I'd love to hear what would happen! I'll be trying it tonight!

I have Lucid Dreams often, however, only throughout the school year.

My Lucid Dreams are always triggered when my parents try to wake me for school in the morning. They always begin as a False Awakening.

Here is a timeline of events in order:

Reality:

My parents come into my room to wake me up. I respond to their call. I fall back into a deep sleep, but seamlessly, Reality and Dream States blend into each other and I believe I am awake. I enter into a False Awakening Dream.

Dream Begins:

I get out of bed and go downstairs to the kitchen. I eat breakfast and return upstairs to have a shower. After my shower I brush my teeth and start to get changed.

Realization of Dreaming and Coming Back Into Reality:

Every time I realize I am dreaming occurs while I am brushing my teeth. This happens because I am made aware of my dreaming state by my parents trying to wake me from my bed again, because in the dream I am not in it. I begin to get confused at this point, and can feel the bed under me but I seem to be standing at the sink.

I now have the choice to either stay in the dream or to wake from it and go back into reality.***

***This is the determining point to having a Lucid Dream. The ability to make the choice to wake up or to stay and be aware. Without this occurring, you have only had a false awakening.***

Some Side Note:

-The False Awakening is not a Lucid Dream. The Lucid Dream only begins if I realize that I can control the situation by either getting up or continue getting ready. I have continued getting ready numerous times; making my way on the bus and to school before being pulled from the dream by my parents using force.

-The entire duration of the dream in reality lasts about 5-10 minutes. In the dream however, It seems to last around 45. When I continue the dream after I become aware, The time in reality of making it all the way to school is around 30 minutes.

-The process of my Lucid Dream only starts if I do not open my eyes when my parents come into the bedroom to wake me up. I simply wake by there voice, and return to sleep after they leave.

-In the Dream State, I am the only person who has existence.

-I ONLY Lucid Dream when I go to bed very late. For example, If I fall asleep at 4:00 a.m, and am woken at 6:00 a.m.I am still in my rem cycle, and return directly into it.

-After I wake from the Lucid dream I always feel completely relaxed and energized. I do not feel tired at all.

and Finally,

I always have to repeat the same process of getting ready when I wake up.

I hope that this is easy to understand and follow, as I wanted to share the experience and give a good incite into a Lucid Dream Experience.

This is how my sleep study was presented to me from my sleep technician. I have been sent for 2 sleep studies, 1 of which I experienced a Lucid Dream and had it analyzed.

I will be trying the posted strategy very soon to see the results. I'll get back to you with them soon!

I've never experienced this before, however I would LOVE to try it.

I'll try that method tonight; I'll report back here with my results.

I'm kind of excited now!

Same here!

I actually did so unwillingly last night. I remember having a sudden realization then running to the mirror. I saw myself in it, but my eyes were turned inside out. But then I guess I forgot I was lucid dreaming, and continued on.

Plus the night before that I was in a dream in a dream, and in the dream in the dream I realized I was lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreaming has been the only thing in my thoughts for a while now!

Mine just happens when it does, so I'd say I do it more or less naturally. I was actually never aware that these kind of dreams/terminology existed for this matter. Often, this will happen usually an hour or so before my actual time to get up and I'm slowly waking up. As it's happening, my dreams tend to phase out. Often, I can force the dream to continue where it left off once I've woken up and fell asleep again. Usually, I can force something to happen the way I want it if I feel it's going wrong or I want it to go differently. I've had where I was on a coaster, and rather than going with whatever layout was provided, the coaster layout would be created on the fly as I'm 'riding' it.

Usually these "Lucid Dreams" almost always involve riding a coaster or visiting a park. I can control how fast or slow the lines move, speed construction up if a ride's going in my backyard, and can immediately board the coaster when I want. Yes, it's like real life RCT.

This topic reminds me of something we used to do as kids but an entirely different concept. We dubbed it "Dream Hour" where we would force ourselves into having a particular dream. At the end when we woke up, we'd all report what dream we had and how it went to what we wanted to happen. I think the only successful session I had was after watching the movie "The Mask" and I was dreaming that I was the Mask character in the casino....but doing a bunch of weird stuff such as eating playing cards and such. It even tasted like what I had just ate for dinner..Yes, it was bizarre.

My lucid dreams are infested with haunted boardwalks and amusement fairs. I'm not joking either. My favorite dream, however, it involves a zombie apocalypse and my parents. TL;WW, basically it showed me that I truly do love my parents. Another one of my favorites involves the members of my favoritest band who helped me in a time of need, pushing me past all of the bad habits of my life and allowing me to move on.

I think the first one was triggered because I'd been reading World War Z.

Well last night I tried to have a lucid dream. It didn't work. It was my fault though. I basically layed down, put my arms at my side, and thought of as many roller coasters and layouts I could think of. My body went all numb, and I started hearing weird noises. The noises freaked me out, so I decided to wake up...

Did you feel a weight on your chest?

Yeah, I heard noises as well, but then I had to go to the bathroom When I got up, I couldn't walk and was seeing things....

I take it that's when you realized your eyes were inside out? I'll have to try this sometime. I don't think it would be a good idea to try on a school night. I think I'm gonna ride Intimidator 305...

Oh no, that was a few nights ago. Last night I was awake, but I was still on the verge of a dream and reality. I remember reaching for the sink but it turned out it was further away than it really was.

Yeah, I think I did... I think the problem with mine was that I wasn't exactly tired at all last night, so it took a loooooooong time to get into the sleep mode. I'm going to try again tonight, hopefully I'll be a bit more tired than last night.

Could you by any chance describe what the noises were like? Because I really want to try this tonight, and this is the only thing I'm a bit nervous about.

I have had a few dreams, that I remember, that I have become aware that I was dreaming. It is, like most are saying, a surreal experience. It does seem odd that you don't alway realise you're dreaming. They are always so ridiculous- with many quick changes and tangents. It seems nearly impossible to think that it seems normal, in any state of mind. Plus, you never remember falling asleep or laying in bed despite it happening just moments ago. Anyway, at any point in a dream I realise that I am dreaming, It always ends up to crumble and fall apart in front of my eyes and then go blank before uncontrollably waking up. I have never been able to stay awake after the realization. I'm going to try it tonight and see how it goes!
