P. 512: Holiday World acquires Santa's Cottages resort

Wow! Holiday World seems like they constantly outdo themselves with the corn maze designs year after year!

There isn't much that they don't continue to outdo themselves with year after year, lol. Skillet at Rock the World would be AMAZING! But they did manage to get Mandisa and some other big names in the past couple years. Eric Camp came too once I believe.

How to keep a reeeally big secret: 101, by Leah Koch.

I'm still remembering how incredibly bewildered I was when they announced the ride would be a wingrider... and that it was going to have a launch...! I've said this many moons ago, but again: props to all of you on the incredibly hard work you've done to keep it under wraps! Many of us enthusiasts are very ferocious when it comes to parks holding secrets soon to be announced. Compared to the public slip-ups (or loose-ends) certain other parks have made this year with their announcements, you guys out-did them all!

Edit: this is the second time I've said Holiday World has "out-done" something, and on the same page. I think I need to calm down for a bit.

Maybe Paula can answer this, but Clermont hid the track until after the announcement or at least that is the way I'm interpreting it?

They kept the track there in Cincy, even though they were ready to start delivering it. We didn't want to take delivery until after the announcement.

Holiday World has sent us a press release about their latest honors at this year's Golden Ticket Awards.

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari’s Wildebeest water coaster took top honors during the 2014 Golden Ticket Awards ceremony, held this evening at SeaWorld San Diego in California.

For the fifth year in a row, Holiday World’s Wildebeest water coaster was named the World’s #1 Waterpark Ride. This top honor was announced by Amusement Today magazine, which presented the results of its annual survey of the “best of the best” in the amusement park industry during Saturday evening’s Golden Ticket Awards ceremony.

For the fifteenth consecutive year, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari were named the #1 Cleanest Park, outranking such parks as Disney World, Kings Island, Dollywood, and Cedar Point.

“For this award, we once again thank our amazing Hosts and Hostesses,” says park president Matt Eckert. “We’re borderline obsessive about keeping our parks clean – and always will be.”

In other categories, Holiday World’s Voyage and Raven roller coasters were named among the world’s Top 15 wooden coasters, Splashin’ Safari was named the #2 water park, plus the parks’ staff was named the second friendliest in the world.

Amusement Today is an international monthly trade journal for the amusement and water park industries, based in Arlington, Texas. The Golden Ticket Awards are determined by surveys submitted by well-traveled park enthusiasts from around the world.

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari will be open to the public on September 13 and closed for a private outing on September 14. Happy Halloween Weekends begin September 20. For more information, visit HolidayWorld.com or call 1-800-467-2682.

I'm just gonna say it. El Toro is over-rated, although I love the ride, and it is truly one of the best wooden coasters in the world, it's not the best. Boulder Dash?! Again!? It's a great ride, but it sure as hell doesn't beat out El Toro AND The Voyage.

I'm surprised Mammoth doesn't fare better than wildebeest. The wildebeest is an awesome ride, don't get me wrong, but I think the mammoth is better even yet. Surprise zoombabwe didn't get a mention for best water park ride either. I'm pretty sure in previous years it's been on the list. Not #1 but it's been there. I also don't see Dollywoods staff as being more friendly either. But yea I'm biased so it's whatever lol. Congrats to HW they work hard and deserve every single award and accolade they ever get.

They weren't kidding about Croatoan LLC

Yea I had actually figured out about Croatoan LLC and the name Thunderbird before the annoucement. I didn't say anything beyond that "my guess is its gonna be called Thunderbird" I know there is one other on this forum that also discovered it before the announcement because we had messaged each other about it. lol. Still we never could find out what KIND of coaster it wads going to be. Just the name really. So it never ruined the surprise for me, and reading about Croatoan was interesting and educational to me as well.

Wonder if they're going to go through the process of getting Thunderbird's trademark switched over to the parks actual LLC company?

Im going to assume so. I think they did the same thing with The Voyage. Thats what made me search for the lawyer name instead of Koch Development LLC in the trademark database. The Voyage is now under Koch Development now.

Anyone know if a lot of people are there today?

Just some full time staff and construction workers, it's pretty light day as far as guests are concerned

So then it wouldn't be that busy. Right?

One would assume!

I was going to put this on here yesterday, but I forgot about it. Anyways, the park tweeted this photo yesterday, saying "Thunderbird track count: 5 up and 72 to go."

Just seeing the trees surround the track makes me happy!
