Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Am I the only one with a thing for onboard audio? I love the Bizarro makeover so much more than I did Medusa - minus not being able to sit next to friends in the back row.

Never ridden Bizarro, but audio makes everything better. It is AMAZING how much your rides on screamin will vary if you get a music free train as opposed to a music train. If the audio is EVER broken on SCreamin I insist on riding it again, because it makes the experience MUCH better!

On board audio can improve a ride experience, but when the audio is only clearly audible on the lift and brakes and sounds scratchy and fuzzy, continuously dropping out throughout the rest of the ride it's a different story.

As far as audio goes, I find that rides usually are in one of three categories.

1. It fits the ride and really enhances the experience. Space Mountain and California Screamin' fit this category.

2. It isn't necessary, but does have a positive benefit. This is where I place Revenge of the Mummy.

3. It is either unnecessary, difficult to hear, or detracts from the experience. X2 and Terminator (except for WCB audio) fall into this category, and based on videos this is probably where I would place Bizarro, although I will decide for sure after I ride it later this year.

I don't really like the on-ride audio on either Bizarro ride (SFNE or SFGAd) because they rarely work, and when they do work they are very scratchy and LOUD. I have not heard a louder on-board audio system save for California Screamin', but at least the California Screamin' audio was exciting and not just random screaming and sound clips from movies and television shows.

I thought the transformation was cool, although, I wish they would have changed it to a western theme to fit the area. They had western theme elements, it's just weird because if there is one thing more opposite of a western theme than Greek Mythology, Its a hideous, opposite version of superman taking Lois Lane into a portal.

As you said, you have "never ridden Bizarro". Imagine riding a coaster and having someone scream inaudible nonsense in your ear throughout the whole ride. It's about as enoyable as having a bunch of screaming 12 year old girls occupy every seat on your train.

I think that I can't make myself dislike onboard audio - I can't explain why, but I just love it no matter what. California Screamin' is my favorite soundtrack in the entire world, and my one ride without it was so vastly different that I couldn't believe it. I enjoyed the X2 audio, even though most of it was inaudible after the lift. Mummy's audio was a great addition, as well as Space Mountain's (DL). And I enjoy the Bizarro audio, because I really don't hear much after the lift, and that's where it matters anyway. I like what's done on the lift - I think it makes the trip to the top a whole lot more enjoyable.

Maybe I'm just weird.

Can you explain what the audio is yelling in my ear? I've ridden it a half dozen times and still have no clue.

Honestly, I just think it's fun to pick our all the quotes. I've never ridden with someone who hasn't felt the same.

Again, there's just something about onboard audio that really improves a ride, I think. Sue me.

There is no theme to the audio. It's just a bunch of random movie quotes screaming at you, same as X2. At least X2 has Metallica playing on the lift hill (even if it's the most overplayed, commercialized song they have).

Eh well theres a few audio bits that go along with the theme of the ride, just the Superman universe in general. Like the "there goes a reporter from the Daily Planet" bit.

As for what's going on at the park now, it looks like construction on the station structure is starting just by the base of the lift.

Well I believe there's some Will Ferrell screaming at you.. or is it just my mind? Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

Isn't it something about meatloaf?

The on-board audio just doesn't make any sense, but I guess it enhances the experience...only if done right.

The ride had a clear storyline on media day, but the 2nd sountrack kind of messed it up. The first one(media day) was synced well(for example Bizarro shouts "First we have fun", then fire)

The storyline also has to do with the marketing capaign they ran before the ride opened. Lex Luthor and Clawshun Industries("I think he's on his way, mr. Luthor")are investigating the wormhole("seems to be a wormhole, sir") and Lois Lane(who always does whatever she can to get the best shots possible) gets to close to the wormhole and falls in("Theres the reporter from the daily planet, what is doing?" "She's fallen in!"). Then they go into the wormhole("grab your team, were going in") to get her back. Media Days audio was cool and told the story well(the rest of the ride is just trying to get her back), but the regular audio is just wierd random quotes

But that's just how I Interpret it

I wish I could've ridden Bizarro on its opening, the storyline sounds really well put together. Sad to see it go to waste and replaced with random movie quotes and scratchiness.

On a seperate note it now looks like a big red crane popped in the view of the GL cam. Lots of supports being put in place right now around where I'm pretty sure the first loop will be

On to Green Lantern...

More supports have been put into place and installation of the transfer bay has begun. The webcam seems to have moved around in the last day or so. High winds maybe?

Ahh so that's what it was. I was wondering what was being built just before the station and yup, it's been very windy lately, I can't imagine how bad it is up on top of the parachutes. Last time it was windy the cam was facing Ka.

To comment on the onboard audio: I don't understand why SF has to put it on every ride. I personally cannot stand it because it rarely works well, cant understand what is being said, and it takes away from the natural sounds that represents all the fun of a coaster. Please, oh please Cedar Fair, don't start doing this crap on your coasters. SF and their gimmicky audio and flames. Its the same thing over and over again. I just hope they leave Texas Giant alone. Audio and flames would do nothing to enhance that ride.
