Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

I've never been to Dorney's Haunt, but I've gotten the impression from people who have that it's better than Fright Fest at GAdv.

It is miles ahead, it's almost laughable. I can't believe people pay extra on top of the ticket price at Fright Fest, when Dorney's is included and is far superior.

^ You definitely should. Now with Coasting For Kids not happening I find it very unlikely I'll make it to Dorney this year unless maaaaaybeee we go for Haunt. It almost feels like an annual tradition of sorts. I did a couple crappy trip reports in 2014 and last fall.

If we went to Dorney and I ran at you out of a bush with a white sheet over my head and yelled "boo" one time, unenthusiastically it would be better than Fright Fest at Great Adventure... even if I charged $5 for the service (making it cheaper than a Fright Fest maze).

  • 2 weeks later...

Drove past the park today and Thunderhawk caught my eye. The paintwork is coming along nicely, it looks like the supports for the lift and drop are completely done, and the first turnaround is starting to come along. The color looks very good, especially when the sun catches it, gives the coaster a nice "shine"

Thunderhawk looks truly stunning now! I'm glad to see it getting some restoration work done! It was chipped and peeled when I had visited last June. Thanks for sharing the photo, Physical!

I was at driving past Dorney Park on Thursday and Stinger's trains are back on. I don't know if you can see it but it was there.

Stingers trains/ Thunder Hawk's first lift hill has been looking nice!

Wow, Thunderhawk is looking good. I am glad Dorney is taking the time to restore such a classic ride! I don't know about everyone else, but I am so excited to ride it this season.

I haven't been to Dorney Park yet, but we're getting Cedar Fair platinum passes this season! Now I'm really getting excited for Thunderhawk, since I'm a huge fan of classic PTC coasters, even when they're on the rougher side. But I hope they re-track the coaster in the next few seasons. Because the fresh trains will smooth the ride out temporarily, but only for the next two or three seasons.

All trains have been on placed on coasters other then Hydra and two of the three steel force trains, and of course thunderhawk new trains. Hoping they start testing this coming week.

Idk about you, but i love being at the park and seeing everything come back to together. Working preseason is awesome!!

Very much looking forward to visiting the park this season. Although I grew up in the immediate area, I haven't been to the park since the days of Hercules and Laser, so it'll be nice to get back, see some old favorites, and check out the "new" additions. I absolutely loved ThunderHawk as a kid, so here's hoping it's running in top shape with the new trains!

I passed Dorney Park today and Stinger had test dummies on the trains as shown in the picture where the red circle is. Also, I didn't get a pic but Thunder Hawk's lights were on the turnaround but weren't chasing.

Hopefully Stinger and other rides start testing this week.
