^ Drove by yesterday and notice they stripped the marquee down to steel, put the siding up on the walls of the casino, and about half the tower has wall frames up for the rooms. This is all new since the last time I really looked at it about a week ago. They are absolutely flying on it.

The new White with Grey paint scheme that the painted the LV Blvd garage and the Nascar Cafe along Sahara looks great. Can't wait to see how it looks on everything. I won't miss the Sahara sandy brown with turquoise color scheme that used to be there.

^ The article seems pretty negative, but personally I like the idea of simple luxury. We've seen that all out luxury like Aria isn't always the best and sometime the more accessible type luxury like Cosmo is the better bet. Do I think this will be the next Cosmo? No. But it's nice to see some new life brought into a dying resort as well as a dying end of the strip.

I'm ambivalent to this. I kind of like the idea of it in the middle of the strip, but not where it is located. I don't think that targeting locals is the best thing either. I could be wrong, but I think a lot of locals stay off of LV Blvd as much as they can and can find a few other places similar to this in other areas that are less sketchy than this end of the Blvd.

The article seems negative because that website feels Sam Nazarian is a sketchy dude (the only way he got the money for the casino was by offering green cards to foreign investors---seriously!), "simple/modern luxury" is boring, and it is a pipe dream to think something high end will work down there.

Vegas in general, I hate the fact that so many places have been "de-themed", if they all have a modern feel etc. then what is the allure?

Have a theme, have a gimmick that makes you want to visit the hotel/casino.

Stratosphere is a great example, the tower should be the biggest form of advertising, however on all of the billboards etc, you don't see the tower, heck it isn't even in the logo anymore, why do people think it is doing so badly?

The tower should be the first thing people see, instead it is such a tiny icon.

^Wow, that is quite drastic!

SLS seems like it is in the twilight zone: unless they offer great rates, who is going to want to stay down there for "modern luxury" when they can get that all over the strip? There's already too many mega-clubs on the market, so again, who is going to want to party down there unless they pay a fortune for a star DJ? Some of their restaurants are good, but again, nothing you can't find all over the strip.

I'm hit or miss, I love some of the luxury stuff like Cosmo... But aside from Cosmo I have more of an attachment to places with themes like NYNY, Luxor, Bellagio, Venetian and even Circus Circus. Unfortunately a lot of those don't really have a "theme" to love anymore.

As for Stratosphere. I've always thought it was a confused resort. It tries to play family with some aspects, but then wants to be adult at other times. I'm not apposed to them taking a "modern luxury" approach with more adult offerings like a club, adult entertainment (like they've done with Pin Up), etc. The tower isn't even really family oriented. The rides are thrilling adult rides that don't really cater to families.

But, with all that said, the tower should still be the main focus of the resort. Without it, it's a pretty unremarkable resort. That should always be their main selling point.

Anyone here play Baccarat?

I'm looking for a good tutorial and forum... I've tried many out and am still looking for that advanced strategy stuff.

Also heard many good things due to the low house advantage, so I've played it a bit and seems all the "Asians" crowd around it with a TON of money and all seem to be following some special strategy and they keep winning!

--If anyone plays craps, you'll understand my sn...although I have minimized 'hopping' numbers due to the extreme high HA. Playing very conservative until I build my bankroll up again.

That is bizarre about Stratosphere and I agree that their new logo sucks...

Given the location in which they are located, I think they should completely move away from trying to be any type of family destination and just go all out adult old school Vegas featuring total sleaze and call it Xtratosphere.

Strip shows, XXX cinema theatres in the hotel, paid escorts, quickie drunken wedding chapels, strippers on the top of the tower that will let you do shots off naked body parts before you ride the thrill rides, clothing optional pool on the hotel rooftop & young Hispanic men handing you hooker cards outside of the lobby...so many interesting possibilities.

It could be the true beacon of Sin City!

I'm bummed for this to happen in the sense that it makes a lot of money for the people that pay my bills, but I'm really not sad to see the rodeo crowd to go. I was not a fan.

This is *HUGE* Vegas news…The Rodeo is one of the biggest cash cows for the city. Room rates go up quite a bit that week, and the hotels are all packed!

If they do move to Orlando, it will be very interesting to see if they get the attendance. Seems to me that people are not going to flock to Orlando for this.

Posted

That is pretty big news. That was a huge money maker for them. As for the Stratosphere, that does seem really stupid to almost completely get rid of the tower in their name and marketing. That's pretty much the only reason I'd ever visit.

Posted

^^They have a loyal following, but how much of that following will want to pay a higher price to travel to Orlando AND not be able to drink 24/7? I think what it came down to is the county is going to subsidize more than Vegas was willing to fork out.

Posted

Also think, the majority of the people who come to this drive. Some are hauling cattle etc as well with them. It will be very interesting to say the least. I don't understand the move, especially because the rodeo has been here for 29 years. Next year marks 30! If you have something that works and isn't broken. DON'T FIX IT!

Posted

^ From the rodeo's point of view it is money. Orlando offered them 4 million more then Vegas. So for them and the participants it means more prize money. I still question if they will get the attendance.

Posted

^Now the PRCA is backing down and saying "they voted to make a counteroffer to Vegas" Sounds like it all may just be a negotiation ploy to try and get that extra $4 million out of Vegas. I'm sure they are hoping the casinos will pile in some extra money to not lose that revenue.

Nothing will match the old O'sheas. The new one is supposedly a much scaled down version.
