^That makes sense.

As far as I know, the track itself is fully installed. I would bet that the extra time from now until opening might have to do work relating to the ride's position on the Boardwalk's upper deck. I know that there was more work than initially thought with preparing the site before track was lifted. I would imagine there will be more challenges relating to the ride's location. More things that come to mind include DOSH certification (Maurer's first ride in California?), building the station, queue, and fences. Also testing, training, and putting other rides on the upper deck.

Maybe they're replacing Cyclone because of that accident a while back where the ramp fell off the ride? I don't know. I'm not liking the colors of the new Cyclone either, but as long as it's a similar ride, that's all that matters I suppose.

Went to the Boardwalk today; fun day and limited operations. Not that crowded and longest wait was about half hour for Giant Dipper (one train operation).

Undertow update: I saw them on the cranes doing some electrical work for the mid-course brake runs.

Those trains look nice! At first I had to look closer, wasn't sure if this was the rendering or the real deal! Can't wait to ride UT (which seems like it could open before another certain 2013 NorCal coaster which remains unnamed

Pretty pretty cars! I've only been on Sonic Spinball, and that was a LOT of fun! Yes, this may be smaller, but it has a lot of the same fun elements that Spinball has.

Very cool paint job on the cars! I can't wait to get all the new Nor Cal credits!

Is this the same layout as Whirlwind at Camelot?

I sincerely hope this one will ride better than Whirlwind if it is but it must do as Undertow is brand new.

Any guesses about an opening date? I know it is speculation at this point, but I was hoping to make a trip to coincide with one of their free concerts. (I plead the fifth on which concert. Lol)

Visited the boardwalk for the first time in ages. I remember thinking the Giant Dipper was really fun when I was younger, but nothing spectacular. When I visited last Friday, it was running SO fast and SO great! So much airtime, strong laterals on the turnarounds (I had to grip the outside of the train!)...everyone was laughing and having a great time, kids and parents alike...what a wonderful gem of a coaster!

I always like M&S spinners the best.

This is probably the best ride they could have chosen to replace Hurricane with.

Here's a quick update from the Boardwalk this Sunday (6/2/2013). Undertow appears to have one (covered) car in the station.

Beach Swing is on-site. Anyone know who makes this ride?

Jet Copters is returning to its previous area on the deck. Its queue line was being assembled today as I took the pictures. They must want to open the ride as soon as possible.

There is also a climbing wall on the deck, where Starfish used to be.

Looks like it's coming along great! Thanks for the pictures. I'm glad they are still going to have other stuff up there. It works well for families that have kids that aren't tall enough yet.

Great update!

I hope that "Coming later this summer" sign doesn't mean too much later. Although I can't imagine they would miss the majority of the summer season. I'm predicting a late June/early July opening.

I haven't really been following this thread so I am not sure if this has been discussed previously or not, but either this is a new model or Maurer Söhne has updated the Xtended SC 2000 a tad bit. From what I can see the the turn right before the first block brake has been banked (where it was previously flat on other models), a drop out of the 2nd block brake (rather than a turn then decline down into the turn going into the "trick track" section), and a new ending section after the 4th block brake.

^I thought I remembered it being said that the ride would be slightly custom, but the same general layout (unless I'm confusing that with another 2013 coaster). It's not listed specifically as a Maurer Sohne Xtended SC 2000 model on RCDB, although that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Hopefully this ride will open sooner rather than later. I'm planning a trip to Northern California and really don't want to end up missing it as I may not get another chance to go back up there for a while (my last trip was in 2008). Although, I'd be very surprised if the ride isn't ready by 4th of July and I won't be going until mid/late July, so I doubt there's anything to worry about.
