EpcotLova Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 I was at a Salvation Army type store lookin around for any useful junk and I ran across Coaster, a game by Disney. It was made back in 1995. Its like an early RCT only you cannot create parks. Anyone else heard of this game?
socalMAN123 Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 I have actually heard of this game! It was in my second grade teacher's classroom. We could never get it to work, but back then when I was a second grader, I thought it would be better than RCT. Boy, would I be wrong. I've still never played it. ---Brent 8)
coaster1 Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 Yeah I used to play it .. it was decent for the time .. nice little game until RCT/No Limits came out.
AllisonY2K Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 was it like No Limits, where you can build then ride a coaster and have their 5 in-game characters rate it? If so then I think I still have the disks for it somewhere, along with a coaster screen saver that had compter animated on-ride POV.
coasterdude5 Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 ^No, that was there most recent game after ultimate ride deluxe.
YoshiFan Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 Actually, they did have 5 people rate the coaster, just not Disney Characters like in the new game. I used to play Coaster all the time years ago. What I thought was cool but unrealistic was if you held down the mouse button, you could accelerate the coaster so if you made too big of a hill, you could still get over the hill. I think it also had the Matterhorn track layouts (but just the track with no theming)
denning Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 Yeah one guy was obessed with puka shells dude - Each of the five raters looked for different coaster types.
ebl Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 I got that game back in about 1994. It was actually a lot of fun. I made a Superman--The Escape ride where the car went off the top of the track on purpose and crash-landed on the other side. True, it isn't state-of-the-art, but for its time was a lot of fun. I think I can still play it, but I'm not sure. Eric
coasterdude5 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Does anybody have any screenshots of it or something?
WillMontu Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Here you go The six in-game characters that rate how good/bad your coaster is Let's ride! The ride editor, quite primitive by todays standard. Can we say "whiplash"?
AllisonY2K Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 ^^^ Yes! that's the one I have. I still have the original 3.5" disks it came on. good lord, 3.5" disks? how old.....
alpengeistdude321 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Oh yeah, I remember that game. It was pretty cool, until RCT and No Limits came out.
Real Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 The old lady was obsessed with wood... heh. I copied it to my HD. Anyone have any idea how to get this thing workin with XP? I might be missing a few files. if you could, zip up the contents and send it my way at coasterreal@gmail.com Would LOVE to use my knowledge now on it.
Canobie Fan Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 LMAO I had this game.. It was the first bootleg I ever got.. back in the day........ I remeber the old women would also be like "that was wilder then that tornado in 1926!"
ChrisFL Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I used to play this game a lot also...and it was pretty cool for the time, but you didn't have a whole lot of choices as far as ride designs. Even worse, I found some rollercoaster shooting game where you're on a ride and you have to move your character around and shoot at stuff...it sucked horribly, that was also in the early 90's
ebl Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 AllisonY2K said: "good lord, 3.5" disks? how old..." Heck, I still have some 5.25" disks with stuff on them laying around. My last computer had a 3.5/5.25 disk drive on it. Eric
coasterking Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Forgive me for being young, but what are 3.5 and 5.25 disks? Are they floppy disks?
YoshiFan Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 3 1/2" disk: http://www.8bitclassics.com/images/3.5%20disk.jpg 5 1/4" disk: http://www.8bitclassics.com/images/5.25%20disk.jpg I hated the 5 1/4" disks, they were so fragile. I had to use them in middle school and that was in the mid 1990's (just shows how out of date my school district was)
Coasterkid20 Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 That game was the s#*t! I wish No limits had the five people to rate the coasters, I could never get enough of the people and their ratings! I made same serious death coasters and still never seemed to get above a 90 I think.... It kinda pissed me off, lol. Man I played that from 1994 until like 1998, and then I remember after RCT came out I found the disk again and I loaded it and man did it suck horribly!
