Jew Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 The press photos look great. I hope the park can live up to the expectations that seem to keep growing!
Nrthwnd Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 The Pirates attraction sounds like it will be more like a "water born omnimover" of sorts. Able to turn and go backwards...or sideways it seems? Which means the loading would be ongoing, although with this kind of vehicle, larger than the usual omni cars, will be something to see how they do this loading and unloading for it. Old (possible) concept drawing of PoTC, for Shanghai.
KingRCT3 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 ^ Nah, this one is an old patent and the Shanghai ride won't be using that. For the better I guess, a row of boat is really appealing to be. I'm a free pirate!
JLFG Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 - There is already a pic on the internet showing the boat for the Pirates ride in Shanghai, they won't be using the omnimover system as you can see. The pic is in low quality unfortunately.
gerstlaueringvar Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 This PoTC really reminds me of Vliegende Hollander somehow. So will this one have drops? Or probably even water coaster sections because of that track?
Nrthwnd Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 ^ Not sure about any drops. But this set of photos, along with most pix shown inside the show building, are always taken of this particular section of the Pirates attraction, including the two art concepts of the very same area, makes me think they're holding a lot more back about this ride, and not disclosing anything else, except this pathway between the two ships. Which is awesome! One of the art concepts showing the same area of the attraction. In action. (o;
Nrthwnd Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 ^ I do, too. Definitely a first, in how it looks, compared to the retro batteaux. But actually, it looks like those Imagineers aren't sitting down in the boat, as they should be instructed to do so! Bad, bad Imagineers.
KingRCT3 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 makes me think they're holding a lot more back about this ride, and not disclosing anything else, except this pathway between the two ships. Exactly, though they released some footage of the Hammerhead guy animatronic, and the scene he would be in:
cfc Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 ^The Hammerhead figure looks great, as does the battle scene.
COASTER FREAK 11 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Saw this and thought I'd post it. Someone on twitter took the time and stitched a larger version of the park map. Twitter Dropbox link if you have Dropbox
coasterfreak101 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Maybe it's just all spread out a little on the map, but that just looks insanely massive. Plenty of room to fill in gaps down the line!
Nrthwnd Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 ^ What I immediately thought, when I saw this map. So - much - space - un-used. For now.
COASTER FREAK 11 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Keep in mind that with these new maps Disney has bee using for all their parks, that even though they accurately represent the layout and spacing of attractions, they fill most back stage facilities with greenery. Meaning it seems there is a ton of unused space, but in reality, there is also backstage stuff in a lot of those spaces.
Nrthwnd Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 ^ True. Still, this takes wider and longer pathways to a whole new level, lol.
coasterfreak101 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Keep in mind that with these new maps Disney has bee using for all their parks, that even though they accurately represent the layout and spacing of attractions, they fill most back stage facilities with greenery. Meaning it seems there is a ton of unused space, but in reality, there is also backstage stuff in a lot of those spaces. I definitely assumed that was the case - lots of show buildings and storage and offices. But I imagine that they have a few spaces earmarked for new attractions a few years down the line!
COASTER FREAK 11 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Oh, yes, definitely! I just meant, it wasn't all the green you see. Once the park has been open for a while, we will be able to compare google maps images with this map.
coasterfreak101 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 And, even then - it just looks massive! Maybe I just haven't paid attention to the new maps elsewhere to see how spatially correct they are. Or maybe this place is just that huge!
Nrthwnd Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Disney and More.com has just posted a set of stills (and the video), taken from a drone's overhead view of the park and it's surrounding areas... http://disneyandmore.blogspot.fr/2016/01/new-awesome-shanghai-disneyland-aerial.html Some of the shots actually gives one a bit of the size of what the walkways will be like, etc One of the stills. And that looks like a lot of plaza space!
cfc Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Thanks for sharing the map, Chris. I like how this Magic Kingdom is going to be so different from the others.
Nrthwnd Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I just found out... The June 12th Opening Day is also the day/evening of the annual TONY Awards for Broadway Theater in New York! Timing. (for those of us into Broadway shows)
Nrthwnd Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 It's quite amazing, looking at that map, that the whole central circular area is the park's "hub" and everything else wildly radiates out from it. In sections, when you include whatever "green space" they put between each "land." And it still looks a little massive, from the photos I've seen, so far. (srry double post)
Garet Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Hmmm, to hop over from Korea at the end of July when it is still brand new and full of opening crowds and kids on summer vacation or to patiently wait it out and hope for some time off in 2017 during a quieter period.... decisions, decisions...
better_by_design Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Hmmm, to hop over from Korea at the end of July when it is still brand new and full of opening crowds and kids on summer vacation or to patiently wait it out and hope for some time off in 2017 during a quieter period.... decisions, decisions... I'm definitely waiting until the school season begins... but how long is the question? Is TPR going to run a China trip in the next year and include this? Or do we need to start planning an informal inspection... err... visit?
Garet Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 ^ Downsides of being a teacher in Asia means you only get the time off when all the kids are off, Christmas week or the end of July/start of August when most of Japan/Korea/China will be off from school too to travel for family vacations.
