Six Flags Darien Lake (SFDL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I'll be at the park sometime between Thursday and Sunday. I'll hop on the giant wheel and see what I can see but I'm not holding my breath. B;TE track is bright yellow, and is also rusted out, so unless they painted it I don't see how one could see it as blue or green, unless they are colorblind. Ill try and talk to a few of my dying connections at the park, getting hard to get info since pretty much everyone I worked with that has any credibility has left the park. if I see anything over the weekend ill take some photos and let everyone know.

Would you take some pics please?

I'll take the best pics I can with an iPhone. I'll hop on the giant wheel and also go up vipers exit to get a close up of back there. If my park connection gets back to me I might even be able to get into the galaxy building. You can also get the said area that the track is rumored to be at through the back of the campground. I'll find out once and for all of this is all true or not.

As for the track being spotted, the Intamin stand-up coaster that has been stored at Darien Lake since 2006 is still in the lot across the street as of June 2015. So, it's quite unlikely that there is any other track in the park's maintenance area unless new track has arrived more recently. I've never been to the park before so, I'm not too sure what's going on right now. Hopefully a new coaster does come to Darien Lake and this isn't some crazy rumour!

BREAKING NEWS!

Darien Lake has taken notice of this thread and decided to announce early.

Coming in 2017 :

SPOK'S PEEH NESS

This will be a radical new launch coaster from Premier rides themed to the popular Star Trek series. The ride will begin by launching through a tunnel (a reused Cuda Falls slide piece) to then soar through a vertical tower and then through other elements including three inversions. It is themed to Spok's favorite long and hard "gun".

^ ... The B&M Stand up?

Nope, it's an intamin.

Built by B and M (the people) for Intamin, while working for Giovanola. I think.

Well, Giovanola was just a subcontractor. This coaster was manufactured before B&M existed as it became a company when Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard decided to leave Giovanola in 1987 and create B&M the following year. They then built their first coaster in 1990 which was Iron Wolf at ix flags Great America (now Apocalypse at Six Flags America since 2012). But, the coaster is labeled as being manufactured by Intamin, primarily because of the awkward/different restraint design used on the trains. But, yes, it was manufactured by the same people who had previously worked for Giovanola.

Anyone have a picture of the new train or supposed track in the maintenance area?

Park isn't even open till thurs or fri. I'll be going Friday. Plans are pretty much set, I'll snoop around and take some photos if I find anything. Where has the original poster of the rumor been? Odd they haven't added any follow up or answered anyone's questions.... I'm leaning towards this all being false and that some kid thought it'd be funny to watch a bunch of grown men/women argue and fan girl over the possibility of ending the 17 year coaster drought. Reminds me of a time on a different forum someone tried convincing me the park was gonna sandblast cudas slide pieces and resurface them... LOL (you can't sandblast fiberglass it will basically make it disintegrate)

I don't think that contradicts what I said, but my point was although it wasn't built by "B&M", the company, it was (likely) built by B. and M., the two men.

Just got home from the park, damn it was hot out here today. SO...... THERE IS NO TRACK OR SUPPORTS OR ANYTHING TO SUGGEST COASTER PARTS ARE ANYWHERE ON PROPERTY. Got pics from the giant wheel, and walked through the campground to get to the boneyard/storage are from the back and there is nothing at all. Unless these said pieces and supports were moved into the galaxy building, it was all a false rumor. Now the Galaxy building was all closed up, no doors were open to see inside, so unless it's all in there, this myth is busted. Oh and over by Vipers entrance next to the shooting gallery they are adding a laser tag game/ attraction, was told it would open in 2 weeks and I believe it's like 5$ a person. There's 2 photos is it below from the outside.

Thanks for the pictures. I had a feeling from the beginning that the rumors were false. It was just another poster without any proof or anything who either wanted attention or to stir the pot. The three main reasons why I came to that conclusion were:

1) Batman will probably decompose into the soil before it is moved ever again

2) Darien wouldn't be building a coaster (especially B&M) under their current management situation or be receiving parts this early

3) If there really was green B&M track people would have seen it at Clermont before it was shipped out

I don't know how people think they are getting ahead by posting crazy rumors without any proof. Sooner rather than later the rumor will be debunked, and the person won't be viewed as credible anymore.

I went to the park today, and I would recommend skipping this weekend because of how busy it was. The crowds were not as much of an issue as the one train operations and slow operators. I tried to hit Predator first, but I am not lying when I say that the dispatches were literally 6 minutes apart. I just do not understand how the same operators get put on the same rides every week when their throughput is lousy. I left the queue because after 10 minutes passed and there was only one dispatch, I did not want to wait it out in the heat.

I stopped by the waterpark, and things were not much better. Tornado was having issues all afternoon, and kept shutting down. Swirl City, Brain Drain, and Big Kahuna had waits all the way down their towers. I did manage to get on Ripcurl Racer. I think this is one of the best additions to the park in a while. Because it has 6 lanes, I only waited 20-25 minutes to get on the slide even with a full tower. The ride itself is a little short, but it has a wide appeal and I thought it was very fun and refreshing.

The park was doing bag checks this weekend, and the season pass line was mobbed. I saw Chris Thorpe and felt like talking to him, but he looked a little busy with the water park issues, so I left him alone. If the current issues continue, and I catch him on a less busy day, I might have a discussion with him. +I don't want to seem like the average pesky customer looking for apologies and freebies because I don't want any of those, but I do want to let him know that things are a little sluggish around the park. Chris seems like a down to earth guy who would like the feedback from someone who visits the park often.

Yeah holiday weekends are always crowded. As a former employee of the park, I can tell you the reason the dispatchers were so slow is because the park has only been open for two or three weekends now. It's closed all week until June 21, this is technically still preseason. Most of these workers are just finishing up college and have to learn on the go on how to run a ride because they're busy most of the week. I did see Chris Thorpe outside the gate and mingling when I was there Friday but I didn't speak to him. As for the bag checks, I've been to the park three times this year and as recently as Friday (two days ago) and not once has there been any security near the front gate let alone a bag check. I'm guessing they had it because of the holiday weekend, but I'm also wondering if somebody may have made a silent threat to the park. I remember the last two or three years Six Flags owned the park they added metal detectors at the front gates and the park used them even for a few years after Six Flags had sold the park then about three seasons ago they were nowhere to be found on opening day. That's kind of odd because the terrorism and violent threat has picked up not decreased I wonder why they removed those metal detectors when things were getting more dangerous Not more safe in the world. I wouldn't worry about ride dispatch times till later in the season if they don't improve. Most of the time they improved fairly quickly once employees get used to working with each other day in and day out when the park is open full-time. A lot of foreign employees also come over to the park this time of year and have never had a job in their life, all three times I've been there and a food stand the service has been extremely slow but, the person take my order was for him so I understood and didn't give them any trouble.

^^^^ way too early to tell, but I can almost guarantee it won't be a water ride, unless they add a dry ride and a water ride. I can't see them neglecting the dry side of the park 2 years in a row. 99.99999% of next season depends on the sale of the park, currently CNL still owns the land(I think?) the park would see more investment if premier can work out all the land details. It's been 17 years without a real coaster, and don't be shocked if next year makes that 18. It wouldn't be unrealistic to hope for a flat thrill ride next year along with maybe a kiddie family flat. I'd still love to see a giant frisbee added to the park, something simple yet appealing. Also note twister had not ran once this year, again, so don't be surprised if it's gone next year. I'd love a new coaster, but I'm a realist and I can't see premier investing that much next year especially if they don't own the land that they'd be investing massive money into. If they work it out with CNL to acquire the land then who knows.

I am pretty sure CNL gives the budget to Premier for upgrades. With that in mind, CNL will not hand over the cash for a new good coaster for a while, so unless the park is sold, expect a flat and if all goes right something in the waterpark. Premier likes water park additions as they appeal to many.

Also, I too would love to see a frisbee at the park, but DL does not have the attendance required for the giant version by Huss. I would expect either the Mondial or Zamperla models instead due to size and capacity that DL would require
