Does anyone remember Shockwave? Or Rolling Thunder

Yes to the first. And I wish I could forget about Rolling Thunder.

I'd like to hear more about these and possibly see some pictures. Also, I've heard a lot of Deja Vu, and I'd be interested to find out where it was located in the park and what the deal was with it.

anybody have any info to share?

After just watching the RAW III DVD's, I know Shockwave turned into ex-Flashback at SFMM. Was Rolling Thunder a racing wooden coaster, or am I mistaken?

Posted

Z-Force was the ex-Flashback. Rolling Thunder is the bobsled coaster before Southwest Territory was built. Shockwave was a coaster like GASM at SFGADV and Viper at SFMM. Took it down for Superman. The racing wooden rolller coaster is still standing...American Eagle.

Actually, Deja Vu once stood on the space where Bucaneer Battle is now. It is your basic boomerang. Everytime I went to the park the line was either 3 hours long, or it wasn't open. I think one season it didn't open until FF. I think it has been moved to another park, but I could be wrong. I hope someone could clarify that.

Shockwave and Rolling Thunder were two of the best rides in the park, well to me anyway. S:UF and Viper now stand where they once were. I probably have some pictures of both coasters. I'll see if I can find them and post them here.

All sorts of crazy statements in that last post

It is your basic boomerang

DejaVu was definitley not your basic boomerang, its a Giant Inverted Boomerang. The main difference being boomerangs suck balls and GIBs are really fun.

I think one season it didn't open until FF.

That was its first year

2001- Ride opened in October

2002- Opened with the park, vallied that weekend and was closed for a bit after that. When it re-opened it always opened really late normally after 4pm

2003- Opened in late July

2004- Opened with the park (late afternoon on the parks opening day)

2005- Opened with the park. SBNO during last half of September and all of FF

2006- Opened Memorial weekend

2007- Opened I think the week after Memorial weekend

2008- Removed from SFGAm/opens at Silverwood

There was a large list of things that messed up the rides operation that would take an enormous post to explain (and the crazy midwest weather certainly did not help the one at SFGAm). Actually I think a lot of the main problems were resolved before the ride opened in 2007 and it operated very well that year but that wasnt enough to save it. Ive been to SFMM 5x though and havent seen DejaVu break down once.

.

Viper did not replace Rolling Thunder, Southwest Territorry did. SWT opened the year after Viper did, the original entrance for Viper was in Hometown Square and Rolling Thunder was operating Vipers opening year.

Nice 'tude. Sorry she didn't describe it as a "Giant Inverted Boomerang."

And your second point, is an opinion. I thought Deja Vu sucked balls.

I was trying my best to remember where exactly things were. Obviously the park changes constantly and it's hard to remember what ride was where. Although I appreciate your imput, I can't help but feel that this was a slap in the face to me.

My first year to SFGAM was when I was 2 in 1997. But does anyone have a picture of the lighthouse where Verticle Velocity stands now? Or somewhere on the internet? I never saw it or remember it

I remember seeing a lighthouse-ish thing still up in front of V2. I think it had Papa Murpy's pizza inside. Maybe?

/\ I think the lighthouse he's talking about was the one next to Yankee Clippers drop which was removed for V2.

Sorry didnt mean to come across as rude, but regular boomerangs are so terrible and a lot of people tend to think because they go on a boomerang and hate it they wouldnt like GIBs either.

I believe your right.

And no problem. Sometimes the written word doesn't come out like you would say it.

Yea. I am talking about the lighthouse that was removed. It was the icon for that themed area. Kinda like hometown square was the carasoul train station... Those old posters in the front of the park by the carasoul have a picture of the light house. But I want to see a real picture instead of a drawing.

They also use to have a little ride there before V2...but it probably got removed to. And why were the chairliefts removed again?

Rolling Thunder was right by Demon, really cramped up. Where was Tidal Wave and Gulf Coaster? Sad that Z-Force was only there for two years. I hope Intamin makes another one like that because I would love to ride it. Why was it only open at SFGAM for such a short time?

I think I remember reading that Gulf Coaster occupied the spot now taken over by Roaring Rapids.

Can anyone confirm or deny that crowds are light, as I heard, during the Crosstown Classic?

It was built at a time when Six Flags was doing a ride rotation system. The ride was also at SFOG before moving to its final home, SFMM.

To help show where rides use to be located. I put together this 6 picture thingy. Enjoy

Tidal Wave stoof where Batman the Ride stands now.

Batman

Rolling Thunder! Look how empty it was. And American Eagle

Rolling Thunder's station is right under the bulls first turn and where Viper's queue is

Shockwave! Parking lot coaster

Superman actually had grass installed instead of being the first parking lot flyer.
