edh
I have always been a fan of the show America's got Talent, and saw a video of a singer Susan Boyle on the British version. After seeing her picture, and then after listening to her sing, you will be blown away. She has been a internet celebrity, and is going on lots of talk shows. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY&feature=related
chrguy606
I thought it was funny, how people were all pre judging. Haters!!!. Reminds me of the postal worker who sang nessun dorma on that show a little while ago.
terrancew_hod
Well she's a good example of why the music industry is in such a shambles: everyone's worried about how they look than how they sound! The industry is acting like they're selling posters and magazines, not music! When I put a CD in my car, I can't see the artist (unless I want to crash); I want to hear how they sound! If it wasn't for video, we'd probably still have a bunch of good singers around. I bet if the industry actually went back to releasing albums of not-so-attractive, talented people and leave looks out of the equation, they would sell more records and people would actually have longer careers.... I mean how many people can remember 10 artists that had their starts 10 years ago that's still putting out good records? Terry P.S. Simon's expressions had me cracking up! He looked like he was totally starstruck and grinning towards the end of the audition. It was like from that old Merry Melodies cartoon, "I love to Singa" where the kid owl was crooning and the judge, Jack Bunny, was just grinning from ear to ear! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBK07PuCvm0&feature=related
Nrthwnd
At the end of it, all I remember thinking (as I smiled wide) was... Good for her - good for her. And I even teared up near the end. To me it felt like a very emotional little mini-comedy/drama/epic triumphant, all bundled up for us to enjoy again and again. Again - good for her. She earned it. Hope she get$ a bundle from all of thi$.
Groteslurf
Amazing. Totally love it. 2 years ago there was a similar surprise in the same show.
larrygator
It's all a set-up, a scam I tell you. There is no way someone that looks that "frumpy" gets on TV and sings that well. She had a reverse makeover done for the shock value of it all. The truth will come out in the future, you'll see.
TheHulk
Saw this on the news a few days ago. Simon's expression makes me crack up all the time. But seriously, I believe the show is called Britain's got TALENT. Not Britain's got the looks or whatever.
cobra_roll06
It's good to see a fellow Scot blow away people like she did with her performance. She does have a really good voice. And not all Scottish woman look like that!
KrakenKing
I saw that this morning, actually. Really, good for her! She's extremely talented and should take her career elsewhere. I agree with Terry, there are TONS of amazing singers out there, but since they don't have good looks, they don't get a record. Oh, and her Facebook Fan Page is getting 400+ adds per minute! And not all Scottish woman look like that! Nope, some of them look like this! - Mike "After looking up "Scottish Woman" in Google Images" Redig
terrancew_hod
Just saw this link. Evidently she did a song on a charity record back in 1999. Only 1000 copies got pressed and someone uploaded to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5ETPG26ALE She's sounding better than most people with real recording contracts. A real shame. KrakenKing
Yeah, I saw that as well! She did some great covers. More talent than Justin himself!?
Jds03
Simon looked like he wanted to marry her.
Chrissie
And not all Scottish woman look like that! Nope, some of them look like this! - Mike "After looking up "Scottish Woman" in Google Images" Redig I can assure you, we don't all look like that either!! I can't believe all the publicity she is getting though, It just shows you how much society can judge someone automatically by the way they look. I hope she does well! FlyingScooter
She has one of the best voices I have ever heard. Amazing.
ginzo
Don't larger people actually have an advantage in singing because of the larger pleural cavity? Isn't that why you see big opera singers?

andyuk200523
I have to say I was blown away by her performance also, and what a cracking song to pick and sing, always been a fan of Les Miserables, she certainly did the song justice! Nrthwnd
^ And in the "Talk About Timing Dept.": one of our local theatre companies is mounting a production of Les Miz, starting mid-May. Since Ms. Boyle's sudden celebrity along with the song she chose to sing, the % of ticket sales for the show have also shot up quite a bit, heh heh. Who knew?
