This week, popular gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly has shut its doors forever. For 20 years, this magazine has found many fans, including me. It was about to release its 20th anniversary issue before it closed down.

Even worse, I only discovered it last year, and have maybe 6 issues. It was my favorite magazine, and I will miss it a lot.

I know there's a few auto magazines going under too. I think this is the start of a trend, with the economy and internet everywhere, I think more might start disappearing at least in paper format.

I used to read EGM all the time, even when I started to rarely play games, but my subscription ended like two years ago and I didn't renew. It didn't seem reasonable to have a magazine about something I wasn't very interested in anymore.

Plus they started doing really immature things; specifically a certain page in an issue about Kingdom Hearts 2 which had left readers angry for a long time and in my opinion was just a really dumb decision to put in the magazine. I think regular readers from two years ago will know what I’m talking about.

Didn't care about EGM. However, the death of the 1up podcasts is painful. Though with Rebel.fm, and Ryan Scott's project, we might end up with something better then before.

Maybe. 1up was the best "corporate" gaming website, but GiantBomb, the remains of 1up, Ars Techinca gaming, and the gaming blogs (Shacknews, Joystiq), I think I'll be OK.

EGM was one of the first gamer mags I ever bought. Think the first one I ever had was from summer 89 and talked about the NEW Sega Genesis. Could have things confused though.

Did enjoy the game demos that came with. Always thought that was a cool extra.
