terrancew_hod Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Well I spent most of the day with my experimental fantasy dark ride/coaster (and typing on my new apple wireless keyboard... it's so tiny!!), and realized how hard this is! I'm still working on getting the coaster elements together, although I'm pulling 9's in excitement and intensity... and keeping nausea to a minimum. I still have the finale to work on, and then I'll work on the theming. Anyway, here's what I have so far: The next two scenes before the coaster drop are connected by the lift hill heading upstairs. This will have more stuff jumping out at the rider as they realize that entering a crypt wasn't on the list of smart things to do in 2008. ; The car heads to the next scene which I just started on. There's only a floor laid down and a few sound effects and music playing through hidden speakers. The cemetery doesn't need too much lighting, and the eerie winds helps the coaster ratings. Next, I had to test a few areas for lighting. I put minimal light in the ride station. This is about 20% done. Only one out of the first four dark ride scenes are close to being finished. It's about 70% enclosed... have to work on trimming a few sound effects for the grave yard and haunted house scenes. This was a place marker for a few surprise elements, but now it needs to be taken down.
thrillrideseeker Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 OH MY STARS! That looks amazing! I wish I were that good! Good luck finishing it! ~Matthew
terrancew_hod Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 ^ & ^^ Thanks! I finished the layout today and started adding scenery to other parts of the ride. I hope to finish one of the other dark ride rooms today. A nasty spirit stands between you and the ride station. Wait... is the station on fire? Oh noes! I ran the stats on the coaster and for a 4 1/2 minute ride, I got about 58 seconds of airtime! That'll get you out of your seat! You may not be ready for this nasty airtime surprise... "Bones" looks like he's hungry! Ok, now that I fixed the problem, it's going into the crooked hallway. Should look good once I start hiding the other coaster tracks... but the I doubt the peeps have time to see them! The coaster roars out of a corkscrew and into a crooked hallway. (Ok, ok... it valleyed here and I took a pic! It still looks good and scary though!)
thrillrideseeker Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 OMG! It looks even more amazing than before! I love the crooked hallway! Its amazing! I can not wait for it to be done!! This is exciting! Keep up the amazingly wonderfully good work!! ~Matthew
Reon Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Please please PLEASE post a pov once your done with this, Terrance. I run a mac, so I only get the basic RCT3, with no custom downloadability or anything. This looks awesome though, can't wait till it's complete!
terrancew_hod Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 ^I'm on my mac too and I have most of the custom scenery, although I had to install it on my PC using the version I bought a a few years back first and copy it over. I bought the Soaked addon for the mac though. It's a shame Aspyr didn't do the Wild addon though.
Mr. Starr Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Wow! I've never really seen anything of yours on here, but this looks amazing!
DBru Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Hey, I didn't know Terrance was an RCT3 god! But seriously, it's looking great, and I too request a POV...this will be one AMAZING dark ride!
triggernel Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Can you explain the layout a little more, or is that going to be a secret until you realese the ride? Thanks!
terrancew_hod Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 ^You guys better stop pumping my head up with these compliments! I'm not doing anything special, just dropping the custom objects and laying out the coaster. I will say I'm much better at putting together a coaster than when I first played RCT1 and stayed up until 6am... and I had to work... and it still wasn't right. Anyway, I think I'll keep the layout secret. After all, what's the fun in a POV if you already know what's gonna happen? I was originally going to put together a Rockin' Rollercoaster type ride set to circuit music... I have the songs for the mix but I need to put them together. But that ride and the one I'm working on belong to the same park. The story is basically a castle is inherited by a jetseting party boy and his first order of business is to have a big welcoming party... hence the original coaster. However, the castle contained ruins that legends say was protected by two mystical statues. These statues are said to keep the spirits of evil from escaping into the realm of the living. During the renovation, one of the statues was lost at the location of the ruin... The workers have been reporting strange events, but are shrugged off as hallucinations. On the night of the party, a few people sneak off and wander into ruins... Anyway, that's the gist of the ride. It's time for bed, but I have a few more pics to share. The Waterbearer sends us away from the evil realm to safety. Or did she? I'm thinking not, since I still have Act 3 to do. I'm not psychic, but I think we're going to get caught up in a battle between good and evil... Things were looking bleak for us, but I think we found the other statue... "The Waterbearer"... The second act of the ride is somewhat a secret, but you can see that all hell has literally broke loose! I ran the coaster in POV mode and I thought it was pretty good. But I think it's a bit hot for the riders, so I think we need to cool them off...
robmiester Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 ^Love the story, and the hell scene looks awesome! Comments are welcome.
TheHulk Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 ^^ I doubt that I could EVER do that...but then again, I'm still learning how to do a few things in RCT 3.
monkeyoverlord71 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 ^^^^ Terrance, I could never find the patience to finish something like that. It looks awesome so far. Good luck with the rest of it.
AlmereStars Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 @robmiester: looks good @Terrance: you're clearly getting the hang of it! looks good, there are some things I personnaly don't like: I would fix that hole in the ground (not a block, but more smooth) for the fire I would use a different set. There is a set called X-tastic or something.. at least something with an X, it has some better fire in it... but its all personal taste!
terrancew_hod Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 @Terrance: you're clearly getting the hang of it! looks good, there are some things I personnaly don't like: I would fix that hole in the ground (not a block, but more smooth) for the fire I would use a different set. There is a set called X-tastic or something.. at least something with an X, it has some better fire in it... but its all personal taste! I'm using the x-tastics fire set... but obviously not enough of it. Right now I'm putting in the set pieces to see if I like them, then smoothing it out and cleaning it up. Until then, it's a blocky world! I will work with smoothing the ground down where I can once I finish. I will say when the coaster is riding through the scene, there's more than enough fire and lava to go around! Certain scenes and transitions will be enclosed and hidden, so you shouldn't be able so see them from other parts of the ride. The Waterbearer scene is down there in hell (guess that's where one of the workers took it... he was moonlighting!), but it's hidden from view, even when you are looking at it from above. Part of Act One sits on top of Act Two, so I have to finish the latter before I close if off. Also I need to practices with the sets for making cliffs and rocks as that will help with some of the blockiness. I have to get my castle building skills together too... right now the first part of the ride looks like the Harry Potter building at IOA. I made a torture room scene, but I didn't like it so I took it down. That is, the computer crash helped me out. One of my custom scenery sets didn't like my hack-mac setup (yep I'm too lazy to switch over to the XP so I've been playing around with running RCT3 and expansion packs on the mac... Parallels was ok but mouse control was horrible so I used another trick and that worked... unfortuately it still saves everything as Soaked so I can't load parks with the wild expansion... but as long as I can use the rides and scenery, oh well). But that's when I focused on the hell and Waterbearer scenes. Right now it's a LOT of trial and error as I get used to using the custom scenery. So far I put about 4 days into it, which is lot for a 5 minute ride! Yesterday I started working on it at 10am and the next thing I know, my roommate is calling me for dinner! Terry
triggernel Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Just to make you mad: "This new ride is going to be the best ever." ha ha now your head will be even bigger.
mcjaco Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Honestly Terrence, this could of had it's own thread. It's looking good! Muy bueno!

terrancew_hod Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Honestly Terrence, this could of had it's own thread. It's looking good! Muy bueno! Well, you know I was speaking to others about unfinished parks so I didn't want to be a hypocrite. I do have a small path, a parking garage and a trash can, so if you want to split this out to it's own thread you can. You can name the thread in honor of my RCT1 parks from the nineties... Terrance's Debbieland: Twin Castles. I showed my friend the initial coaster layout with minimal props and he said he would never ride it! I wonder what he'll say tonight when he see's the what I've added. Oh stats-wise: (before most of the hell edits and Waterbearer scene) Excitement : 9.64 Intensity: 8.10 Nausea: 4.23 I think I'll try to update the Waterbearer's scene with some additional effects for the next update. Terry "didn't know you guys would eat this up. It's my first custom scenery park" Weaver
terrancew_hod Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 ^Thanks! Quick question for anyone: Does anyone have the beta for GermanTaco's Ride Effects? I figure I would ask here before trying elsewhere. His site is down right now and some of his effects look pretty cool. Terry
terrancew_hod Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Well I did a bit more work on the hell and Waterbearer scenes... This scene is a bit better with the water and fountains. Next the waterbearer scene needed a bit more attention. I had a problem with homegirl keeping the hellfire at bay with a pitcher of water. C'mon gal, get this together! I added some custom scenery waterfalls and fountains. This is the overhead view before I removed the top part of the waterfall due to the line showing. The new scene involves a up close and personal flyby before leaving the scene. Still didn't add to much lava yet. The banked curve near the demon is still there. The escape from the demon encounter was changed a bit. The initial confrontation didn't last long and you didn't see him. You blinked and you missed it and it was on to the next part. Next a bit of a teaser for Act 3. Where are we anyway? Now the scene is close to being finished.
triggernel Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 The new waterbearer scene looks great, can't wait to see Act 3.
