TPR TV or CoasterTube

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I'm sure you know by now that we are developing something that we have called "TPR TV" for a while. You can see it here:

www.themeparkreview.com/tprtv

And while it is still in it's "beta testing phase" we need to determine what the final name of this feature will be.

I've gone back and forth with several different names and ideas and I think I've narrowed it down to two. It will either be "TPR TV" or "CoasterTube" but I need some input from you.

Here are some things to think about before voting...

TPR TV has a great ring to it and it brands the "YouTube" like video system with Theme Park Review, which has been home to many favorite coaster videos for years!

CoasterTube on the other hand is a bit more "generic" but for those people that do not know TPR it gives an instant description of what it is via the title. So, for example, people who are searching Google may then discover TPR through CoasterTube.

Here's a question to ask yourself - if you did not know anything about TPR and you were doing a Google Search for a coaster video and you saw one come up under "CoasterTube" and one come up under "TPR TV" which would you click on first?

Either way both will be branded as part of "Theme Park Review" with the TPR logos and such at the top and whatever we decide to call it will be the title of that page.

So please vote in the poll for which name you think makes the most sense and reply with your comments or thoughts.

Thank you for your help!

There are so many wrong directions that one could go in with CoasterTub...

Anywho, I chose CoasterTube as well because it already ties into the current brand that YouTube has created and also leaves the TPR TV name open to other things that could happen. To me, TPR TV sounds like a podcast name over a video site name. CoasterTube sounds like the site, TPR TV sounds like an individual product.

I'm going with TPR TV. Coaster Tube just doesn't sound right for whatever reason. To me, it just kind of groups you in with everybody else out there trying to showcase their niche video offerings by putting "Tube" in the title...much like the eThis or eThat, and even iThis or iThat trend. Bleh.

Also, when I Googled "coaster videos," TPR was second on the first page. When I Googled "roller coaster videos," it was a little further down the first page, but still there nonetheless. And after people search a few of the offerings, it should be clear to them who offers the best videos.

I guess as long as the tags are good (I'm limited with the tech knowledge on this one), and you can keep on top of Google, TPR TV will continue to stand out, as it should.

Hope that .02 helps.

Instantly reminded me of TubGirl...Ew.

Anyways, is there any way both could be integrated somehow? Have TPR TV be the name over everything and CoasterTube be the sub-section that consists just of coaster footage?

I realize that this video database will feature more than "coasters" so I really like the TPR TV name covering it all.

Funny, this is my EXACT thoughts on the two and why I need other people's input on it.

I too am torn between both names.

I mean, one of the reasons why I chose the name "Theme Park Review" in the beginning was that it was self-explanatory (even though we yet to have had a real review section)

Or why not merge the 2 of them and call it COASTER TV?

Because I think if I'm going to go with something generic, I'll tag onto the "tube" name that everyone across the globe now knows.

If I'm going to re-invent I'll go with something TPR branded.

That's something else to think about... YouTube is now a global household name. The "tube" part of it has essentially replaced the word "TV" as the word to describe an online video medium in the decades moving forward.

I saw some crazy statistic where more people "tune in" to YouTube across the world than the US population does to any one of our three top TV networks!

I understand your reasoning for "CoasterTube" (or "Tub"), but I voted for TPR TV (bascially for the same reason as Scott). I think the new feature needs to be the same "brand" as the site.

Well if I knew nothing about TPR I would go to one's that came up under "CoasterTube" I personally think "CoasterTube" would get more views, and eventually draw more people to TPR!

It has to be coaster tube. You will get much more traffic from people searching for coaster vids that might not know anything about TPR yet. No one will google "TPR TV" if they don't know it exists but there's a good chance "coasters" will be searched for. Also you might get some traffic from a youtube search as its a similar name.

HAVE A GOOD TIME ALL THE TIME.
