jray21
Started "Into that Darkness." It's a book about the commandant of Treblinka and interviews with him while he was in jail. Really depressing and eye opening stuff.
mightypotato
I've been on a bit of a binge lately and have gone through a number of books. Some good, some not so much. Here's what I've been through in about the last month or so: Blake J. Harris - Console Wars Adam Resnick - Will Not Attend Andy Weir - The Martian Greg Sestero - The Disaster Artist Douglas Coupland - Worst. Person. Ever. David Shoemaker - The Squared Circle: Life and Death in Professional Wrestling Brendan J. Koerner - The Skies Belong to Us Victor Cha - The Impossible State If I were to recommend any of those, I'd go with The Martian, The Disaster Artist and Worst. Person. Ever.. All great and funny reads. At the moment, I'm re-reading A Confederacy of Dunces for what seems to be the millionth time. No matter how often I read it, it still makes me laugh out loud. If I ever get down to New Orleans, I must have a photo taken with the Ignatius Reilly statue there.
cfc
I just finished Destiny of the Republic today. It's an excellent account of the assassination of President James Garfield. If you're into history, you'll probably like it.
imawesome1124
I'm not technically "reading" a book, but... I am writing one. The premise is it's a coming of age story in the form of the lead singer of a fictional rock band telling his life story as he's preparing for a gig on the five-year anniversary of a significant event that turned everything he knew on its head when he was 18. Most of the story will be very happy and upbeat, but once it gets to that event, it's going to be an emotional onslaught until the very end, but with an uplifting ending. Apart from being a 'growing up' story, it's also a 'redemption' story for a lack of a better word, as the main character tries to put the pieces of his life back together after the unspecified event that changed everything for him. I've been righting a rough draft for the last month and it's going to come together in very much a 'patchwork' kind of way. I'm writing each scene separately and am going to stitch it all together when I'm finished. I have about fifty total pages written, but it's still in the very rough draft stage. My goal is to have the actual writing finished by June of 2015, and from there I'll worry about trying to get it published. My main goal right now is just to finish it. mightypotato
I'm currently reading "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader: North Korea and the Kim Dynasty" (just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?) by Bradley Martin. It's a fascinating read into how the Kims came to power and how they've managed to hold on to it for so long.
BugEyed
I just started "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers. I'm only 7 pages in. So far all 7 pages have been great.
