Carnage Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ^ But also, even though it's going to be turned on, it won't actually be up to full speed for quite some time.
rollerboy Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 ^ Yeah, they reckon that if it does form a black hole it would take at least 2 weeks to start causing major effect. Jordan.
Manny In England Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 A Black Hole would be a great tourist attraction. Who cares about throwing pennies into a well when Switzerland's got a swirling vortex of doom. Oh, and to quote Wikipedia. The Super Large Hadron Collider (SLHC) is a proposed upgrade to the Large Hadron Collider to be made around 2012 That will destroy the Earth, it's got the timing right and everything.
ash.1111 Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ^ Another 'reason' to why the world would end in 2012 was also because of this thing being upgraded.
BlackHole2005 Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I cannot wait for 2012. Damn, What an eventfull year! and to round it all off, the worlds gonna end.
BeemerBoy Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Can the scientists guarantee that if a black hole is created, this thread would be the first thing sucked in?
natatomic Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I hoping that instead of a black hole, it will cause some sort of physically-harmless explosion that will actually cause some humans to have their gene mutated X-men style so that I can FINALLY levitate stuff. You have no idea how long I've stared at things, willing them to move.
cfc Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Can the scientists guarantee that if a black hole is created, this thread would be the first thing sucked in? This thread is already in the "black hole." We've actually existed in the alternative black-hole dimension for centuries, but were unaware of it until this thread was created.
mcjaco Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ^ What does that mean for rides on the moon?
Tömmioh Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ^It should give you a pleasant tingling sensation.
Homer Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Will this black hole suck us into another universe like in that episode of Futurama?
Ccron10 Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ^ What does that mean for rides on the moon? Shouldn't we be asking "What will ride's be like inside a black hole" instead? Thank for finding the video. That's the one I was trying to find.
Manny In England Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ^ They'd all be dark rides. Great theming for a Schwartzkopf with a spiral lift though.
rollerboy Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 Apparently the scientists are trying to find out something about protons, if they are successful they will be able to take the matter out of anything (making it weightless). Sounds fun but I dunno if it will actually work.
Manny In England Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ^ That's right, it's called a Higgs Boson.
ash.1111 Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Less than an hour to go. I had homework due but I think I'll wait 'til after to see if I still have to do it.
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Its just Switzerland. No one will notice. We'd stop seeing B&M's and Intamins....at least until they're both relocated to Hoboken, New Jersey
ash.1111 Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Apparently this thing is just warming up. The first atom will be smashed in around 4-8 weeks.
rollerboy Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 ^ Yeah, it will take about 4 weeks to get everything in check, then we will see what the outcome will be. Today is the day that scientist will boot up ye' old killing machine . I really hope it all works, just imagine being able to make anything weightless, although it will only be available to a minority of top scientists.
TPDave Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 It's not allowing scientists to make anything weightless, it's discovering why particles have mass...
Manny In England Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Everyone focuses on the tiny chance of something we don't want near our matter showing up eg. Micro Black Holes, Strangelets etc. No-one's thinking about the things we'll gain from this. They spent the $5 Billion for a good reason, we have a good chance of discovering a fair bit about our universe, it's matter and even what might happen to it.
AllenA07 Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 ^I've been following this project for the last several years, I can't wait to see what we get out of it.
haux Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Has anyone heard of the time travel theory? This one is pretty amusing. Apparently, this thing may be the reason for time travel. But we won't know it because you won't be able to travel in time before a time travel method is discovered.
cobra_roll06 Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I have been following this for some time and even researched it for my first year lab report. Personally, I'm looking forward to finding out more about gravity and hopefully being able to truly understand it. Has anyone seen the video about the LHC by gorilla199? This caused some arguments and people retaliating in other videos made by themselves.
