stingrock23 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 That's the one big difference I've noticed this time around, the preparation has been much better compared to Katrina. There will be no places of last resort like the superdome last year, most of the people should be able to get out of the area before it hits. I'm still here for now, but I've got a hotel room in talahassee and a friend in south carolina, so depending on what happens overnight, I'll be going to one of those places tomorrow. Hopefully the storm shifts west overnight.
coasterdude5 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 984 evacuees just arrived in Memphis from New Orleans. For the first time in history, every road leading out of New Orleans will be for north-bound traffic. They're not even comparing this storm to Katrina... it's that much worse.
Kalepi_Konei Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone in the path of this storm. Truely and honestly I feel for you guys. The storm surge is going to absolutely slaughter New Orleans, man this is going to be a REALLY bad storm, I'm almost expecting it to be just as bad or worse then Andrew. May god bless you all. Kalepi "Get the hell out NOW!" Konei
The Alex Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I leave for Atlanta in three hours.... this is insane. Gustav is giving me a sense of fear Katrina never could. My thoughts go out to everyone. Stay safe. Long live NOLA.
Kalepi_Konei Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 This is where all those extra empty homes will come in handy.
terrancew_hod Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I went out last night and it was windy and rainy with heavy downpours; and we're on the other side of the state from where Gustav is! It was funny to see a drunk girl get knocked on her a$$ from a strong wind gust. Terry
spaceace12 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Was just reading on cnn that some people are not leaving because they don't have the money. That is why NO has busses on hand to get people out, there is no reason to not get out. Also, some people who won't leave because local forecasters say it going north of them. People in New Orleans have some courage, I probably been leaving on Friday to get out if I was down there. Also, mandatory evacuations are now into effect. Again, good luck everyone down there.
coasterdude5 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I am on the way to St. Louis right now and I have lost count of how many empty buses I have seen on 55 heading south.
Ccron10 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 The latest news is that the levees will bearly hold. The prediction is that the storm will make landfall as a cat. 3 storm tomorrow morning. If Gustav makes an unpredicted curve to the east of the city, then it could mean the worst for New Orleans in the way of storm surge.
okinawaboy11 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Arg, this sucks so bad. I feel so bad for all of you in New Orleans, if I was religious I would say my prayers are going out for you... but I'm not, so I'm saying good luck and stay safe! It was originally forecast to hit as a cat. 4, now they have it as a cat 3. Which is a little bit better I guess. I know New Orleans is many peoples home, but after this, depending on damages, I really think they shouldn't rebuild the city, or at least move it to another location. Honestly, what if it were to happen again next year, or the year after that? You never know with these things. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Well, I agree there, but the the city will be rebuilt.....but my thoughts are that let the people that have the money to rebuild, rebuild. The ones who don't, should ahve to move. If this was the first time and hasn't happened in a while, then they should get help. But this could be the second time in recent history and who knows what past history it has.
astroworldfan1 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 It's getting close to me now. They just issused a tornado warning for my parish. -Tatum
spaceace12 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Are you still there? Are you crazy, this storm is just as big as Katrina (atleast as possibly damaging).
Ccron10 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 It's getting close to me now. They just issused a tornado warning for my parish. -Tatum I'd seek shelter if I were you then. I wish you the best of luck on riding out this storm and so do all of us. -Chris
astroworldfan1 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 We're fine where we currently are now. The tornado warning watch ended at 7:45pm. -Tatum
HEADCHEEZ Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Good Luck Astroworldfan1. I hope you make it out okay. my toughts go out to you.
astroworldfan1 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 ^ Thank you! As long as we still have internet, and generators, I'll be on TPR as much as I can! -Tatum
ElToroAddiict Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 My heart is with you and everybody else in the path of this monster. I hope you all make it out safe.
verticalzero Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Wonder if "Mega Zeph" at 6FNO is going to survive another battering. most of the rides are going to be "Razed", so I guess it does not matter if they are blown apart by the Hurricane.
spaceace12 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Looks like New Orleans got lucky, very min. damage from what I seen, to what could have happened. I sure hope the residents of NO continue to head to these calls of evacuations because you might never know when the little thing might turn into the big one.
kraken613 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Well after this we got Hanna and Ike out there still!
sccoasterfan Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 When Hanna hits Myrtle Beach, SC I will be here to witness it. I will be taking photos and videos to show yall after it is over. I am going to go to beach when it makes landfall to see it come in. YAY me. Good luck to me yall.

I am going to go to beach when it makes landfall to see it come in. YAY me. Good luck to me yall. Isn't that a really, REALLY bad idea? So you're going to go stand on a beach video taping the storm surge of a hurricane? You'll just end up adding to the list of darwin award winners who go swimming during hurricanes.
sccoasterfan Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 From my grandparents house I can see the beach and I am goign to take pics of it coming in then going back to my place 2 miles inland.
terrancew_hod Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 ^^Yeah. Sit at home with the doors closed and stay safe. Running around with flying debris is not a good idea. Terry
