BamBam36 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Cedar Point or Great Adventure are your best bets. But what about Mt olympus. You get Hades and Cyclops as well as Avalanche down the road. My pick for easily the best place for wooden coasters anywhere, as those 3 are all in my top ten wood. No corporate cuffing of the coasters like at other parks either. But yeah go to Great Adventure.

gk Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Great Adventure + Hershey is a great idea. Hard to top that for a one-two punch.
FeelTheFORCE Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 If you do choose Great Adventure and Hershey, I'd suggest trying to fit Dorney Park in there also. It's a nice park with a fun collection of coasters and rides.
HHN Dylan Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Hahaa ghetto park. I'm sure I could last, also I'll try that feeltheforce. Great adventure, looks insane...
Carnage Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I would have added Mt. Olympus to my list, but I don't want to recommend the ultimate ghetto park to a roller coaster newcomer... I would only suggest Wisconsin Dells to someone who was going on a longer distance trip. Or going to SFGAM, and make the drive up to the Dells for good measure. Wisconsin Dells are in the middle of no where, it would be a waste to go just there.

It's a nice park with a fun collection of coasters and rides. I disagree. If he had time for a "third park in the area" of Hershey and Great Adventure, I'd STRONGLY reccomend Knoebel's. There isn't anything at Dorney that is unique compared to the other two parks or would top anything at Great Adventure or Hershey. At least Knoebel's had one of the top 10 wood coasters in the world (Phoenix) and it's a fantastic "traditional" park. IMO - Batman is better than Talon Medusa is better than Hydra Nitro is better than Steel Force El Toro, Lightning Racer, and WildCat are *WAAAAY* better than Thunderhawk. What's left? Voodoo? Laser? A Wild Mouse? Are those really worth adding another day AND skipping Knoebel's for? But it really sounds like he only has the two days and I you really can't go wrong with Great Adventure and Hershey. --Robb
DBru Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 ^Not to mention, Hershey has a Wild mouse & a Schwarzkopf, and SFGAdv has an Intamin launcher (despite not being inverted...)
BuddyChrist Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Great Adventure is a great option, along with Hershey. Working at Great Adventure, I'll give you a few tips about the park if you decide on going there! Try and get there right around park opening, the real , large crowds don't really come into the park until around noon. Also, I suggest buying your tickets online since they are cheaper and save you time from standing in line to buy them in the morning. You can also buy your flashpass online as well and being your voucher with you! I suggest the Gold Flashpass since it cuts 75% of the wait off, I know it's more expensive, but not having to wait as long will make your day even better! If you have any problems printing anything, make sure you get the confirmation number so we can help you out at Guest Relations! If you arrive at the park early, say around 9, you can go through the Safari first, you can get them online for $10 a ticket when you but theme park tickets. It takes about 1/2 an hour-hour to get through, but it's a great experience. It closes at 4pm, so I highly suggest doing it before visiting the theme park! When the park opens, the flashpass center should be your first stop if you're interested in it or already reserved it. Everyone should wear shoes, flip-flops are allowed to be left on the side of coasters, but it can be a hassle to have to fish them out from the piles of other trains' flip flops. If you aren't using a flashpass, be sure to get a ticket at the entrance of all major coasters. We're handing out numbered tickets to help combat line jumping. If you don't have your ticket, then you won't be able to ride! Don't bring anything you won't need with you into the park if you don't want to have to use lockers. If you have a non-rider, then it shouldn't be that much of a problem. If not, try and bring the bare minimum with you and wear cargo shorts with zippered pockets to hold that bare minimum. Lockers are only $1, but they're worth it because people still ignore the signs saying no loose articles and lose their stuff! If you lose anything, it won't be retrieved until the end of the night when the ride is shut down and can be safely retrieved. Lastly, try to get to Kingda Ka first as it can go down at really any time for a variety of reasons throughout the day. It's best just to get it out of the way first. It's also a good starting place because El Toro is nearby! You can go from Kingda Ka, past the tigers, over to El Toro and enjoy an awesome ride! Ok, I think I've dispensed enough advice for you to enjoy your day! Have a great trip and I hope you have a great day at Great Adventure! And yes, I did watch that video a few pages back, and I will work to see what I can do to help him.
HHN Dylan Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 First off may I say, Buddy WOW I honestly can't thank you enough for that info. Secondly, Robb, and wheoever was wondering about more then two days. I may do it over spring break/summer of 09/a weekend. So I may have more then two days, I am defintly going to look for a third park, hey maybe even a fourth. I have family up in PA anyway so I'm sure I could work that into my parents idea of a "plan". Thanks again BuddyChrist, that must have taken you awhile to type :
robbalvey Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 ^ If you have FOUR days then I would actually suggest: 1. Six Flags Great Adventure 2. Hersheypark 3. Knoebel's 4. Dorney Park Look at the TPR park index and I think you'll find links and Google Map directions to all those parks: http://www.themeparkreview.com/photos/index.htm
fergusonat Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 You cannot miss Knoebels. What a fantastic little park --- it's like stepping back in time
HHN Dylan Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Yeah ferg that's what I have been hearing. I love to remember when I was 6, at DW and not a thing mattered. Just having fun.
