Tusenfryd Discussion Thread

Man, speed monster looks really cool! Also, after reading some facts I noticed that it in only running three cars per train, and only running 2 trains. Although it might be a really cool ride, it's going to lack capacity by only launching 12 riders at a time. Still, it should be interesting...

Lets make one thing clear. This is NOT america !

So? Quite a few parks in Europe pull in some heavy attendance. Its not just America who has G-Force quota's to fill and adrenaline to surge.

Norway only has 4 000 000 inhabitans, that's like a third of the population in LA

^^^^Actually, the brake fins are controlled pneumatically

Then what the hell were you asking?

Kip - Duane makes a distinction between hydraulic accelerators and the wheel-driven launch for Galazy Express 999

After I told Duane about the tire launch, he did some asking around.

(The weirdest part was riding it without knowing that it had a loop!)

Apparently, unlike other tire-driven coasters (think Hulk or lots of kiddies) which use electric motors to power the tires, GE999 somehow uses hydraulic motors to spin the launch tires. The launch is really cool as it goes around a curve, before boosting directly into the vertical loop.

Wakarimashta desu ka? = Do you understand?

If you want to know more about GE999, that's my Trip report and photos at RCDB.

Yeah, but this is Norway. This park is popular, but it doesn't pull huge crowds. They'll be just fine!

Tusenfryd actually has a suprisingly low attendance level, only about 450 000 visitors per year. In comparison, Liseberg, which I think is the closest major park, has an attendance level of 3.5 million visitors per year. Oslo is a larger city than Gothenburg if I'm not mistaken, so I expected it to be a lot higher than just 450 000.

Liseberg is a well-known park that draws alot of people from far away. Tusenfryd on the other hand doesnt have the same amount of great rides, and most of the people who visits Tusenfryd are local. And with Thundercoaster getting rougher and slower over the years, I guess people dont feel the same need to go back. Im sure that will change next year though

Heres some more pics from Tusenfryd btw http://www.nojespark.net/tusspeedmonstercon/index.php

^^They will probably put a screen up so that will not happen...unless the owner used to manage a SF park

This looks like a great coaster. Parks are starting to realize that small rocket coasters can provide more than the larger ones. The first inversion will probably be awsome since it will probably provide good hang time, and the final set of hills scream air time.

This is NOT a small coaster! Maybe for a CF or SF park, but for Tusenfryd this is a major investment, the largest in the parks history. They didnt go with a smaller rocket because it would be "better", they did it because thats what they had the space and money to do.

However, I think Thundercoaster is actually larger. Maybe this cost more and there is more involved, but Thundercoaster looks overall bigger and more expansive.

Still...looks like it will have 2 fantastic rides. Kind of like how Holiday World....was.... hehehe.

Actually they will now have 1 fantastic ride next year. Thundercoaster was fantastic when it opened, but when I rode it 2 months ago it was just 'alright'. It wasnt as rough as I thought it would be, but it just lost so much speed. I guess its because of the shuffling back and forth. It used to have lots of ejector airtime, but now it was mostly floater airtime. Very dissappointing because it was a truly great coaster a few years ago

Decided to put in a couple more pics for ya... Just for kicks. I work at Tusenfryd off-season as well, so I've been able to see the whole building process up close. As mentioned before, these pics were taken yesterday. Oh, and don't diss my photo taking skills, the screen on my digital cam is shattered.

track doing it's little banked turn thingy in between some trees. as you can see from these pics, Tusenfryd is really in the middle of the forest.

here's the corkscrew... and then the track stops lol
