shepp Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 It's a long shot, but anybody know whether eyeglasses with straps are still banned on Tatsu? My faithful Croakies have gotten me on darn near every ride I've ever queued for (with the exception of Xcelerator), but last year the Tatsu ops were adamant about making me take them off and stow them very insecurely in a pocket, where they were much more likely to fly away. That idiotic policy still hold sway?
Hercules Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I don't really think it is a bad policy. I'm sure it is still there. I know it is on the other flyers that I have been on within the past 2 years.

Really? I can't be 100% certain, but I'm pretty certain it wasn't the policy on S:UF or Batwing when I rode 'em. The first time I rode Tatsu, there was no problem, as the glasses were firmly strapped. The next time, I was already in the harness when the op made me take them off and stick them in my pocket, where they could easily have dropped out. I could understand the rule if everyone were searched beforehand and made to leave their cellphones on the platform, but take it from me - my glasses ain't gonna come off unless my head falls off. However, things sometimes change. When I first rode Speed:The Ride, it had a no-glasses rule. When I rode this past year, it had been revoked.
TheStig Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Dude, save yourself some drama and just take them off. Its the parks policy, just abide by it.
tsalas08 Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I always hold my eyeglasses in my hand on any coaster if i forget to leave them in the car.
shepp Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 Dude, save yourself some drama and just take them off. Its the parks policy, just abide by it. Dude, I fully intend to abide by park policy. I just want to know what current park policy is before I spend an hour or three queuing for a ride where I'll have to ride without being able to see. Oh, and if I do have to store my glasses, I want to be ready, instead of stuffing them caseless into my pocket at the last minute. That's why I originally asked the question. Clear?
TheStig Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 ^I don't think your tone was called for there, I don't appreciate that. I will, however, try and better answer your question. You even said it yourself that you don't like stuffing them in your pocket without a case, so bring a case with you! Before you board the train, just ask a ride op or a greeter if you can wear your glasses with a strap. If they say no, throw it in the case, if yes then go for it. Its not like the ride is going to be totally different if you cant see anyways. And if that still helps you in no way, call the park. Thats the easiest thing you can do.
shepp Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 ^I don't think your tone was called for there, I don't appreciate that. Sorry, didn't intend my post to have a negative tone. Was just being clear about why I asked the question in the first place. Peace.
Erik Johnson Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 I am pretty sure that I wore my glasses while riding Tatsu. I too also use a glasses sports band so those suckers will not fly off during the ride. If this is the rule, I will make sure and remove them the next time I ride.
scooterdoug Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 I'm not sure as to current park policy. However, every time I have ridden Tatsu, I have had my glasses (without strap) on and never had any problem nor been told to remove them. Go figure...

Ah, well, looks like it's the luck of the draw, and the whim of the ops. Like I said, first time, OK, 2nd and 3rd, no. Guess I'll give it a shot, but keep the case ready, just in case. Thanks!
Hercules Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Yeah, I don't know. Like I said, every time I have been on Superman or Batwing, I have been told to take them off. One of the great reasons to have contacts now.
kris182_2000 Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 I always wonder about that. I know that rides are different if you can't see. By not being able to see, it takes away from the enjoyment or excitement of wondering what's coming next on the ride. If I can't wear my glasses(and I'm virtually blind without them), the I wont ride. It's that simple. It's like driving, I need to see where I'm going.
tsalas08 Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 On S:UF I saw several riders wearing eyeglasses w/o any sort of strap on them. All of them ended back up in the station with their glasses still on. I try to leave mine in the car whenever possible, I just cant read anything unless its in front of my face.
shepp Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 So I'm back from L.A. The word from the op I asked was that I could ride Tatsu with strapped glasses "at my own risk," which I did twice, no problem. Amazingly though, KBF, which I already knew bans specs from Xcelerator, now has a firm no-glasses policy on Pony Express!!! Go figure.
mcjaco Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 ^ And it'd probably change with each ride op too. Hope for the best, expect the worst.
shepp Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 ^ Actually, I went to KBF Guest Relations to express my amazement that I could ride with glasses on X2, but not Pony Express. Park policy.
Kalepi_Konei Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 This is going to be the dumbest question Ive ever asked but... Im getting contacts soon, is there any possible way they could fall out on a ride?
TPDave Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I've worn them for a year and a half and never had any problems...
SharkTums Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Robb has worn contacts pretty much forever. The only time he ever lost one was on one of the "Toilet Bowl" Body waterslides! And he hasn't since, so it just takes some practice at waterparks, but theme parks are fine.
Carnage Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 ^ Actually, I went to KBF Guest Relations to express my amazement that I could ride with glasses on X2, but not Pony Express. Park policy. At Canada's Wonderland I was told to remove my glasses on Italian Job (sorry, Backlot Stunt Coaster ), but had no problem on Behemoth. Granted on Behemoth I was wearing sun glasses, but that shouldn't make a difference. Doesn't make sense though that I had to take my glasses off on BLSC, when Behemoth literally towers about 200 feet above it.
kraken613 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I didnt have a problem on Tatsu with a strap for my glasses. I havnt on any ride ive been on.
Team Thriller Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Also, if all failes, you could duck tape your classes to your face. I did that when I went on X with my sunglasses. Of course, I looked really nerdy. --James
bigjohnson51 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 This is going to be the dumbest question Ive ever asked but... Im getting contacts soon, is there any possible way they could fall out on a ride? I've never had a contact fall out on me unless I've been messing with them. The only time I've ever had problems with contacts was a few years ago. I had just gotten a new brand to try out, the ones you can sleep in. I loved them until I had a ride on Patriot. They dried out so bad that my eyes watered the entire day. It was quite funny yet quite painful. I could make jokes about how emotional and happy I was to ride Mamba and junk. Good contacts don't befriend you though!
