HEADCHEEZ Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 http://www.screamscape.com/html/las_vegas.htm Screamscape has confirmed that Circus Circus's Adventuredome is taking out the Rim Runner (Splashdown Boat) To make way for a Gerstlauer spinning coaster. Starting May 25, RIM runner will only operate on peak days or when Canyon Blaster is closed. Its last day of operation will be Augest/31/2008. Personely, I love the airtime Rim Runner gives. And its not even that wet! However, I say good riddence. Adventuredome was in desprate need for a new coaster and I am jumping for joy! The new coaster is most likely going to open in june 2009. R.I.P. Rim Runner and welcome to the club Gerstlauer!
307 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Rim Runner may be one of the best names of an attraction. Ever. That is all.
Wes Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 ^ Maybe they'll keep it but add some theming that deals with the movie "The Italian Job". I wonder what they'd name it then....?

Ah, the Italian Runner! Which is funny because we know Italians can't run, and neither will the coaster! ...oh, that's not what you meant?
lapseofreason Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I never got a chance to ride Rim Runner, I was always more interested in Canyon Blaster. The water always looked kind of nasty anyways. Oh well... bring on the credit.
laqueefa Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I was going for Italian The Rim. I was looking for the Italian Rim Job
jackskellington101 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 ^ You're probably going to have to pay extra for that. *ba duh dumn*
Mr Stratosphere Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Rim Runner was never the same after they closed the front and back rows of the boats, making the splash a lot smaller. John
ebl Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I rode Rim Runner once, back in 1995. I'm not crazy about the park removing a rather unique water ride for yet another coaster. Hopefully another park will pick it up and move it. Eric
Voyage_luvr Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Rim Runner was never the same after they closed the front and back rows of the boats, making the splash a lot smaller. Why did they close the front and back rows of the boats? That doesn't make much sense.
Coasterlvr_nc Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Does anyone have a picture of the rim runner? or could someone provide an explanation of why it was so "unique"?
Mr Stratosphere Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Why did they close the front and back rows of the boats? That doesn't make much sense. They used to have a place where on lookers could watch and get soaked from the boat. They then made that area a Virtual Arcade Game area and couldn't get the equipment wet. A smaller splash prevented the area from getting wet. They also added some glass to cover some areas. Also limiting the number of riders prevented everyone from getting totally soaked from the ride. packfanlv Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 I really love the Adventuredome and visit there a couple of times each year. The spinning coaster at Nick Universe (MOA) really surprised me when I first rode it. These type of coasters are a lot of fun and I think it is a much needed addition to the park. It seems to me that the Rim Runner has been running seasonally the past few years. It has been hit or miss as to whether it is open or not. I also think removing it will free up additional space than is needed for the new coaster. This will enable them to continue adding rides in the upcoming years. I am still amazed how much they have packed into that little dome. I guess as my "home park" it has a special place in my heart.
FLIPDUDE Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Hmmm... on one hand I hate that they are taking it out because that was one of the best placed and prettiest shoot the cute rides. And from what I remember it was very fun. Glad I rode it. On the other hand I think that a spinning coaster would in fact be a better ride. Especially if done right. But on the 3rd hand.... the thing about them running it only on busy days or whent he canyon blaster is closed is kinda lame. The rim runner was a constantly operaitng ride, no?
Xmeister Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 In my opinion the Rim Runner was much cooler before the late 90s. It used to have so much cool theming to it, but they removed most of it when the park really became focused on rides. Before the late 90s I believe the Adventuredome had 3 to 4 rides. It was also called the Grand Slam Canyon Adventure Dome. Does anyone have any pictures of the Rim Runner with it's old theming? I think it's a shame they're removing this ride, especially since now, Las Vegas won't have any water rides. Also the park was kinda designed around the ride's layout, so I wonder how they're going to get rid of the ride without making a mess of the Adventuredome?
VegasCoaster Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 I'm not sure its a matter of getting rid of the theming, but rather an issue of any of it working anymore. I think they might have gotten rid of / moved one of the dinos for Chaos, but I think a lot of it is still there, but never used. They had a tilting rock, a bunch of bats in the lift hill, I think I remember some skeletons and treasure chests up top before the drop. The thing I have an issue with is that its freaking Vegas and we already got rid of Wet'n'Wild, we don't need less ways to cool off. I love coasters and all but there is a definitive need for a water ride in Vegas, even if its in a climate controlled dome.
Mr Stratosphere Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 I know Rim Runner took up a lot of space. But if they are freeing up a lot of space with this along with the coaster, It sure would be nice to get a log flume in there. John
BeemerBoy Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I'm incredibly saddened by this news. Choosing a new coaster over implosion to Circus Circus is clearly the wrong move.

Hmm.. maybe you're right... actually, with all the construction going on around it, I'm surprised Circus Circus isn't already doomed. (I just noticed the addition to your signature, by the way... I hope I wasn't the one that caused it... lol...)
DenDen Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Just went to look for my GSC pics, and the only one I have of Rim Runner is similar to the one already posted, albeit probably older. Canyon Blaster's original trains Rim Runner

ebl Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Did Canyon Blaster get new trains? I know the color scheme is different from the original, but I just thought they were painted. I think Rim Runner is a Vekoma ride, similar to Jurassic Park as I recall. Eric
