California Great America (CGA) Discussion Thread

^One problem with having a Bart station is that with the Bart, gangs migrated to areas outside San Fran....I really don't want CGA to becom SFMM in 06'.

Good point... That's actually kind of what happened with one of our local malls. Since adding the Bayfair station, that mall has attracted a lot of the 'ghetto' crowd from the depths of Oakland. That mall's gone down hill sadly...and when I was a kid, it was a thriving place. While BART is convenient, it just may be too convenient.

Bayfair is just sad now.

My friend working at Stoneridge mall said a lot more stealing has been going on in the stores too now that bart opened up a station there recently. Great America would have to be prepared for all of that, its always so chill when I go.

Like others said, I doubt bart would go there though.

^So tempting, but I really need to save all my money.

^Not to mention, it was not used for any regular shows this season. Actually, I last remember knowing of its use back in 2009/10 for All Wheels Extreme. Prior to that, I do not recall any 'regular' shows to be held there.

The one and only time I've been to CGA it was for a Christian rock concert, and if you're talking about the same amphitheater that I'm thinking of, the particular concert event I went to was an annual thing, at least for a while (because some people had been to the same thing the year before I went). That was in like 2005/2006 (can't remember which at the moment).

But I definitely would love to see them expand an event like that, as the amphitheater was pretty crowded. It was a very memorable day and I had a lot of fun.

I don't think people on the East Coast understand the feelings those on the West Coast feel. I hate to steriotype, but that's the way I see it.

To make a long point short: On the East coast, you guys are spoiled by parks. When in Pennsylvania and the states surrounding it, I don't think I was ever more than a 4 hour drive from the next major park on my NE trip. In norcal, you are stuck with SFDK, and CGA. if one is removed, that is, literally, removing half the major parks in the area. That would be like closing Hersheypark and Knoebels. You wouldn't be sad, though, because you still have Dorney and Kennywood, right? Disney, Knott's and SFMM are about a 6 hour drive south. Imagine only having one park less than a 6 hour drive away. How much fun would that be?

I completely agree! I was fortunate to visit a few NE parts in 2009 when my dad and I took a road trip for my senior trip. The trip was awesome and I loved the parks but it was super expensive and I would have to spend a lot of money if I wanted to go back to any of them (or visit others). So I pretty much have two choices: 1) Visit the California parks (which SFDK and CGA are the closest for me, but still about 4 hours drive) 2) Don't ride coasters. It's a non-choice for me.

I hate it when I hear people from the east coast bagging on CA parks... whether SFMM, SFDK, and CGA have the best coasters/best operations/are the best parks compared to ones on the east coast doesn't really matter to me. It's all we've got, and you learn to love them for their good qualities.

Because I had nothing better to do tonight, thought this would be fun. However I borrowed TPR's video of Flight Deck since the vertical loop I shot (and everything else) was not steady enough. Ever seen 2 trains chase each other (besides in my photoshopped image)? Here goes! Please excuse the poor quality, result of downloading, converting, re-converting probably with a poor setting on my behalf. I guess the poor quality does hide some of the imperfections.

This is what inspired it...wish I had a video shot like this!

Rawkin- you're thinking of Spring Celebration, and yep.. we still do it every year

That's what it was. I didn't know if they still did it. If I found out a band I really liked was going, I probably would go again (and maybe convince my sister to go... she's the concert freak of the family and I'm the coaster freak). I wonder if JMA will keep it going?

That video is just GP bait. The comments should be priceless!

^^TOTALLY THIS.

Today, I went to Great America as usual, and these were the highlights:

-Fun ride on Woodstock's Express w/o child, yes you don't need a child.

-No line on Delta Flyer/Eagle's Flight

-Short line for Psycho Mouse

-Nice halloween theming in Orleans Place

-Walked through the IMAX Pictorium's queue

-$5 Haunt T-Shirts in the Inside CGA store

-And of course, Flight Deck is always a highlight

^I guess I'll find out next weekend but the $5 Haunt shirts...are they repeats from last year or do they have some new stuff? So far, I have pretty much every design as far as Haunt shirts go, wouldn't mind expanding my wardrobe of Haunt shirts

They are from 2008, though they are still Haunt shirts, get them before they're sold out.

Haunt is starting in the next the couple days! How many people are planning on going this weekend? I will be going this Saturday.

I'm also going Saturday...I'm going to get some rides in during the day (short lines FTW!), then do the Boofet dinner followed by Haunt. Yup, I'm excited for it. Of course, I'll be in a TPR shirt, should be easy to spot.

Also I was sent a email today with some VIP ticket options or as they call it, V.I.M (Very Important Monster) Some of them seem very overpriced but I wouldn't mind any of them.
