Swornenemy
Spring won't get here quick enough. Glad to finally see a new coaster come to cga. Hope to see the crowds get back to the way they were back in the early 90s.
#1rollercoasterfan
Look at CGA's calendar on their site opening day says Friday March 29th from 10-6. I will be there if Gold Striker will be open that day!
Double0Kevin
I still can't believe CGA is finally getting a new ride. It's so surreal. Can't wait to get on this thing.

#1rollercoasterfan
I can't believe this is happening too how very exciting. Finally after how long a drought -13 years! Physco Mouse was 2001. UG! Let's PRAY they won't wait another 13 years to add another one! But between the time it takes for CGA to get another new coaster after Gold Striker we will see huge improvements like more slides in Boomerang Bay, new Action Theater movies. Hopefully a nice launch coaster like Flight Of Fear will fit in the Pictorium building.
Angry_Gumball
So I'm puzzled now. It opens on a Friday, which is Good Friday...It seems like that the park is opening a week later this season as I recall the park opening on the 3rd weekend of March and not the 4th. Oh well, I can't wait to hit up the park, just going to have to put in for that Good Friday off..will literally be a "Good Friday" Â I'm wondering if it has to do anything with Gold Striker's opening...let the speculation begin! robman
Im starting to think Gold Striker will be opening on March 29th. It's really strange for the park to be opening up on a Friday and a week later than it normally does. With the park opening on Friday this has me to think even more that it ( Gold Striker) will open because it would be a really slow day at the park, plus it gives them time to work out any kinks that the coaster may have. Plus the 29th is Good Friday and right before Easter and Spring Break, perfect time to open the coaster. Â Of course this is all speculation at this point, I believe we will know the exact opening date by February when the first rider auction is announced. #1rollercoasterfan
I'm sure there will be long lines for Gold Striker because a lot of schools will be off for Spring Break. Remember Invertigo opened March 21st 1998 so it's not unusual for a coaster to open in March at CGA.
rolercstrluvr
I'm sure the lines won't be too bad as we're thinking they'll be. I'm sure opening weekend won't be that bad as it's one of the least crowded times of each season. Makes me feel all happy inside when there is no one there, more rides for all my TPR buddies. #1rollercoasterfan
So these coasters opened in March much earlier than the 29th! -Vortex 3/9/91 -Flight Deck 3/19/93 -Physco Mouse 3/24/01 I can bet you 100% Gold Striker will be ready to ride 3/29/13. There's a pattern going on here!

Double0Kevin
I feel like SFDK has destroyed everyone in the Bay Area's perception of when a ride can open. Almost every attraction CGA has built opened on opening day of the season. Even Stealth opened on April 1 which was the opening day in 2000 (Albeit it probably should have opened in 1999, but we won't blame CGA for that one). I've never once worried about this thing not opening on time. You have to remember that GCI is essentially the B&M of wood coasters. Once everything is put together... it works, from the start. I wouldn't doubt that we see this thing making test runs in early to mid-February.

RAWKIN_coaster38
I don't doubt it will open in the spring around park opening, what I wonder is if they'll do some sort of special opening for Gold Striker or if the event will be tied in with park opening? Like do you think there will be some sort of season pass preview or Gold Striker ERT possibly before the park opens? Idk how CGA usually does new ride openings... Double0Kevin
In the past they opened for the season on a Sunday. But the Saturday was a SP preview day. I'm sure they will do a Media Day event prior to opening day or at least early in the day before opening it to guests like SFDK does.
#1rollercoasterfan
I so want to go to the media event for Gold Striker before it opens to the public. Anyways, it really doesn't matter if you are one of the first riders on Gold Striker, as all it would give you is a good conversation starter. #1rollercoasterfan
Oh well screw the media event. I have a season pass so I can enjoy GS all year long. But does CF do special ERT for a new ride for season pass holders?
Angry_Gumball
CGA? ERT? That's like shoving diarrhea back up your butt...(Ok, I need to stop with the Haunt Culture Pop show references, lol...one of the lines the Overlord says ) Â In all seriousness, as of lately, CGA's ERT policies are laughable...2 rides and go around. Coasting for Kids was quite laughable as while all the other CF parks got ERT sessions, CGA just gave out fast lane passes. Something must have happened for the park to not allow any kind of ERT even if it's sanctioned. Â Not sure if they will offer season pass holder benefits as it's been a long time the park's received any major rides, not to mention, this is CF's first involvement with the park and a major attraction. Only time will tell. In the mean time, there is that rider auction that's to happen, more details in February I believe.

The most anticipated new attraction in the 36-year history of California’s Great America is currently under construction and will open next spring. Angry_Gumball
Oh yea...almost forgot to note, more GWW action (and Gold Porn) this weekend! Since I have the GWW season pass, why not use it? Unlimited rides are half-off too, making it a perfect weekend to visit again!  With this said, expect to see some photos from us  An update to my post...I was bored and surfing Youtube, looking at our GWW video stuff when I found this in the 'related videos.' Finally some decent footage of this classic attraction, as much as the whirring noise is drilled back into my head again.
rolercstrluvr
^All the noise coming from the ride would get on my nerves, the constant whirring noise mainly.
Tmcdllr
During the spiel around 3 minutes in he says "no screaming"....wtf really? When did that start? And he says "please keep hands and hands, etc inside the cabin..." Â I used to work that ride in '89- we always had plenty of cat litter handy. Funny, one of the wheels, when it started, it would start very violently, it was funny to watch it fling the cabins all over the place. Double0Kevin
I remember that noise fondly... well not fondly, but it is permanently engrained into my mind. That ride always intrigued me. They are a pretty unique twist on Ferris wheels.
