montezooma
To celebrate the arrival of TPR TV, and even my own channel, Shane's Amusement Attic on TPR TV. I have really opened up the vaults of Shane's Retro VCR. I want to share one of my most favorite video collections, 9 episodes from a program back in the 1970's called Kid's World and then I am going to follow that up with a program that appeared on E! titled "Theme Parks A Go-Go" So sit back for the next two weeks and enjoy these exclusive mini series brought to you daily by Shane's Amusement Attic and TPR TV! Kid's World: Marriott's Great America. In this episode of Kid's World the three early coasters of Marriott's Great America in Gurnee are featured. There is some great footage of the Turn of the Century before it was converted to the Demon. Also notice that Willard's Whizzer has over 70 banked turns...I think the reporter missed one important word..."degree" [tprtv]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=KidsWorldGreatAmerica[/tprtv]
QueerRudie
Man... Talk about VINTAGE! I remember KidsWorld doing a number of 'theme park' segments over the years; this one I'd not seen- But I (VAGUELY) remember one where they had a 'Chicken Exit' on a particular coaster. (I might screw this one up- but I think it was Worlds Of Fun; I am most likely wrong on that one...) Any more out there Shane?
cycamps
That was great! Thanks a lot for posting that. I appreciate any chance I have to see vintage SFGAm footage.

montezooma
^^ Unfortunately I do not have the World's of Fun episode, I missed that one. Here are the episodes I do have: Marriott's Great America Screamin' Eagle Loch Ness Monster Revolution Colossus Jet Scream at Six Flags over Mid-America Cinerama Coaster Big Bend The Beast
montezooma
Kid's World: Screamin' Eagle Here is another segment from Kid's World that highlights the Screamin' Eagle at Six Flags Mid-America. At the time it held the record for the biggest, fastest, tallest, blah, blah, blah. Almost as fun as watching these retro coaster clips is watching the kids doing the interviews. Olsor
The interviewer in the Screamin' Eagle clip reminds me of Michael Cera. Great stuff, Shane!
kitsch transporter
The Freefall concept painting you posted a few pages back is really interesting! It seems they once planned to "suspend" the cars from the tracks so that you stay perpendicular to the ground at all times. This would have prevented all the mechanical repositioning of the car. I wonder why they decided against this technique?! Another thing I have learned from the vintage videos: "Neat" must have been a really hip word amongst kids back then. Is it on purpose that the videos start as soon as you open the page? On my browser all videos start simultaneously when the page has loaded, causing a pretty "neat" cacophony in the process. Loefet
There is a bit more information about the First gen Freefall's in the First Drop magazine edition 81 pages 26-27. This includes a complete list of manufactures units and a concept drawing of a looping version. On that list there is one that raises a few question marks, in 1995 there was one sold to JR Central in Nagoya (JR as in Japan Railway). If anyone know anything about this one I would be really interested in more information.

On my browser all videos start simultaneously when the page has loaded, causing a pretty "neat" cacophony in the process. There are still a couple of bugs that have to be worked out with TPR TV. Robb is aware of them and working on them. I probably should have waited until all the bugs were worked out to start this super mini series but I just think TPR TV is so "neat" and I couldn't wait. montezooma
Kid's World and the all mighty Colossus Yay! another episode of Kid's World with classic ride footage, porn music and the ever popular comments by the classically trained reporters! montezooma
Kid's World searches out the Loch Ness Monster "People have been searching for the Loch Ness Monster for many years. Well, it's been found. It's at Busch Gardens...and you can even take a ride on it" Glenn Robertson reports on this Monster. I wonder what ever happened to Glenn? I am guessing he is a hair dresser on Fire Island...Oh no you did-unt [tprtv]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=kidsworldlochness[/tprtv]
GAcoaster
If you enjoyed my post on Intamin's 1st generation Free Falls then you MUST check out this site: http://www.greatadventurehistory.com/Freefall.htm I don't know who runs this Great Adventure History site but it is top notch and full of GREAT things from this park. Thanks, that's my site. We have a mutual admiration society going here since I've been addicted to your great blasts from the past! There's one thing I've been looking for on the web but haven't been able to find yet and I'm hoping you might have it or know where to get it. I remember on the original 321 Contact they did a show that featured coasters which I remember watching over and over on video tape until someone recorded over it. I remember it featured Tidal Wave at Great America, and I wanted to ride it SO BAD just from watching it! PS- Any Great Adventure stuff you have I'd love to get copies of
thrillerman1
I too remember the 321 Contact tv show with the coaster episode. I'd love to see that again. Shane these are great vids!
ebl
I just watched that Colossus video. Did that bring back memories! I miss those original PTC trains---so much better than the Morgans on it now. And I remember the backwards rides in them, too! Eric
montezooma
^ Thanks everyone for your comments. I just love watching these Kid's World videos for their sheer campiness, but there is also some great old footage...Turn of the Century!!! For those of you asking about 321 contact, I am almost positive I have something on that. I have not come across it yet in the videos I have transferred but I remember seeing it. GAcoaster- not to get all lovey-dovey, but again I have to say "GREAT SITE!" I spent hours on it yesterday and still have much to cover. I loved the Parachuter's Perch page! The only thing I have posted on Great Adventure so far has been this souvenir book but as a bonus for you, here is a clip I shot back in the 80's at the park. montezooma
Kid's World at Six Flags over Texas This segment is a little short, I must have run out of tape (beta) Anyways it does have some good footage of the Big Bend, Schwarzkopf Speed Racer. It was removed to make way for the Arrow Flying Turns...the rest is history [tprtv]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=KidsWorldSixFlagsoverTexas_5[/tprtv]

montezooma
Kid's World blasts off on Jet Scream Here's a coaster that time forgot...Anyone remember the Jet Scream at Six Flags over Mid-America? Kid's World does and it is the focus of todays episode. So without further adeu I give you Six Flags over Mid-America's first venture into the looping coaster areana. Take it away Kid's World....
