p. 393 - 70th Anniversary events and lineup announced!

But isn't it 'impossible' to undo your seat belt mid-ride? The article makes it sound like he fell out of the ride, but this is probably just some guy that tripped while getting off the ride and the media blowing it out of proportion because it's Disney (or a theme park).

If you guys would read the article, you would see that he fell in line. Most likely in the upstairs portion of the boiler room.

A man was hospitalized Wednesday night after falling 20 to 25 feet while waiting to get on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's California Adventure Park.

Having been on this ride more times than I can count, they're referring to the stairs to 'walk up' to reach the upper floor part of the attraction.(nothing to do with the ride itself)

I could see if you were a little drunk that you could go over the rail. Drunk people do stupid things, I'm sure he learned a good lesson.

Of course the stupid media is reporting it as he fell off the ride.

EDIT: I'm also hearing reports that the guy may have been only 19 or 20 years old. Which leaves two possibilities.

He was drunk before going to DCA

Friends bought him the drinks and gave them to him.

I know at GlowFest they are VERY strict and will card EVERYBODY. And you can only buy 1 drink per ID. Period. I saw them carding people who were obviously in their 30's/40's even 50's when I was there.

Yes, he had been drinking and stepped over a railing while going up the stairs.

Reading is fundamental, folks.

When the thread was started, the article just said that someone fell. it didn't say where or how far. that information was added later.

^ But it doesn't change the fact that it's terrible news reporting to shout "MAN FALLS FROM TWILIGHT ZONE TOWER OF TERROR!!! ~ZOMG WIKIPEDIA SAYZ ITZ 183 FEET TALL - HIGHEZT IN ZEE ANAHEEEM!!111!" and then add a footnote later that says the accident happened in the queue, and the guy was an underage drunk.

Epic journalism fail.

Another great "news" report ...

If you saw that you'd think that the ride was unsafe or something.

This is a prime of example of incredibly bad (that is, "average") reporting in the U.S. news media. It's essentially a "gotcha Disney" piece in which there is nothing to play "gotcha" about.

I'm all for calling out Disney and other park chains when they do something horribly wrong, but this is just lousy reporting.

A couple of more articles.

http://www.ocregister.com/news/fall-262779-disney-tower.html

And apparently a release from Disney in that one:

"The guest was standing in line with friends on a second-floor platform when he climbed over a barrier to the area below and lost his balance and fell approximately 25 feet, said Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown in a prepared statement.

And another article:

http://disneylandlive.com/?p=1615

The Orange County Register is reporting that a man fell approximately 20 feet from a platform while in line for the Tower of Terror ride at Disney California Adventure Wednesday. (link) The man’s current condition is unknown but he was taken to UCI Medical Center, a Level 1 trauma center only a few miles from Disneyland.

The interior portion of the Tower of Terror queue is set to the theme of a hotel boiler room and splits into a two level queue, one rising by stairs on a second level. It is specualtion, but this area is most likey where the incident took place, as it is the only area of the queue that is raised where one could sustain such a fall. The 20 year old was waiting waiting in line with some friends, before the fall, when he joked about someone falling and leaned over the rail. Anaheim police say alcohol may have been involved in the accident that occurred at approximately 10pm. The area represents three of the six loading areas for the attraction. This area is guarded with a railing as it twists through the hotel to the loading elevators.

Quite amazing when blogs and online sites get the news more accurately reported than "news" sites and TV news. Maybe if they would take a few minutes to actually find out what happened instead of playing "Gotcha" with Disney they would be a little more respected. Oh that's right, it would mean actually doing some investigation.

The drop thrill ride is 183-feet tall, making it the tallest building at the resort and in Anaheim, according to Wikipedia.

This is a true sign of quality journalism. Someone should go change Wikipedia's page to say the ride is only 35 feet tall.

Done

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

At the Disneyland Resort, the 35-foot attraction is the tallest attraction at the resort, as well as the tallest building in Anaheim

Now how long do you think it will take someone to notice that and change it back?

Wikipedia is so awesome!

^^Well it probably won't be that long actually considering Wikipedia has moderators that check the changes made to public pages by anonymous people.

But as for this incident, this is just unfortunate for the park. If the media wouldn't make this out to be something it isn't there wouldn't be a problem, but that is, unfortunately, not how this country's media outlets work. Epic sigh.

Apparently alcohol wasn't a factor:

http://www.ocregister.com/news/fall-262779-disney-tower.html

ANAHEIM – State officials will not investigate the case of a man falling from a platform at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride at Disney California Adventure because it happened in the queue area, not the ride itself.

The state is required to investigate injuries on theme-park rides, if they require treatment beyond first aid.

Disney's California Adventure attraction The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opened in 2004. A man was hospitalized after he fell from the tower Wednesday night.

But state officials don't investigate injuries in the line areas, said Nancy Medeiros, senior engineer for amusement rides at the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health, in an e-mail. Disney was exempt from filing a report about the case.

Tower of Terror reopened Thursday morning. A 20-year-old man fell about 25 feet from the platform about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was hospitalized and released.

"This type of accident is not required to be reported, because it happened in the queue line and has nothing to do directly with the ride," Medeiros said. "It is reportable if something falls off of the ride and hits someone in the queue line, but the accident has to be something to do with the operation of the ride."

State officials inspect guardrails and queue areas during annual inspections.

"The guest was standing in line with friends on a second-floor platform when he climbed over a barrier to the area below and lost his balance and fell approximately 25 feet," said Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown in a statement.

Anaheim Sgt. Rick Martinez said that just moments before the fall the man commented on how it would be funny if someone fell.

Martinez said officers took a police report, but the incident does not require a police investigation.

"Alcohol was not a factor in the accident," Martinez said.

Not sure why, but the bolded part made me

So the only time somebody getting hurt in the queue line will get investigated is if something (or somebody) falls off the ride and hits somebody in the queue. Good to know.
