How did you make WaterCam?

Would it be safe to submerge in a pool?

Is there a waterproof video camera case out there that works more efficiently?

So, let me guess how you did it:

You cut a hole in the bag for the lens. You taped the hole down to the camera so no water could get through, and taped the open side of the bag shut.

That's funny, it looks different here:

^ That's because that was not our "water cam rig" that was our "protect the camera from the Typhoon with whatever we have handy" rig.

Oooooh.

But if I want optimal results (taking my camera on a water slide that's very wet, or Dudley Do-Right), I should fork over $100+ on a camcorder case?

^ Just use a plastic bag, a little bit of electric tape and your imagination. I am sure you will come up with something.

// managed to get my camera out of Epcot bone-dry on Monday. My shoes, shirt, socks, underwear, and hair were a different story all together.

Actually, there is a water proof case for Video cameras. Just go to Epiccam.com. They have a water case that works on almost any Video camera. I plan on buying it soon.

^ But how expensive are they?

I know there is a underwater case I could get for my Canon A85 digital camera. But I checked into it and it turned out the case was just as expensive as the camera itself.

The safest route would be to use a manufacturer approved waterproof housing (case). That way at least your camera could still be replaced under warranty if damaged.

But as others have suggested, there are cheaper alternatives that will probably work just as well...
