What's with them not running Dipper because of a broken mic?! Can't they improvise with a megaphone or something?!

Believe it or not, that does shut down rides. I was in the TTD station, about 3 trains from riding, last year, when that happened. They lost sound and it caused about a 30 minute downtime until they got it working again.

and saying you have a busted mic is easier than saying: "We're sorry that Big Dipper is closed today. We simply don't have enough employees to cover it."

Great TR. Too bad Thompson was a rain-out. Have you ever gone to the Night of Fire?

Great Report Justin! It was great to spend a little time with you and your father and to take in some great coasters. Sorry that the weather wasn't very cooperative and that the best wooden coaster of the trip eluded you. Just gives you another reason to come back!

My comments on our day at Cedar Point

- Maverick is an excellent coaster and much more "forceful" than I would have expected. The trim after the second launch was kind of a bummer, but it didn't ruin the ride. I just don't understand why they can't lighten up the second launch a little bit to compensate instead using a break.

- Cedar Point was having some issues on our visit, but they did pretty good in spite of the rain. When we rode Bluestreak after the rain, they took one train off and got it back up pretty quick. The big buzzkill was Raptor. They would test it for nearly an hour after every rain.

- The early entry thing was a disappointment. I have been to CP many times for early entry and never experienced two rides (of three) down in perfect weather. Note: The day started out with very good weather.

- Villian and Bobs at Geagua were running better than I have seen in a LONG time, but this was most likely due to the good soaking they got prior to our rides.

I can totally empathize with you on the weather though. Went to Cedar Point on May 18th (Physics day) last year and it poured so hard towards the end of the day that even the aircraft warning lights on TTD were lost in the haze.

Maverick looks good, I'm really looking forward to that one... Better make some phone calls to see if I can't pull a trip together out of friends rather than being lame and going with family (I'm 18 for god's sake!).

Excellent TR, Justin--Maverick looks great!

You know, I actually have a hankering to ride Disaster Transport; then again, I was rather fond of the amazingly dumb X at Thorpe.

OK. I didn't get nearly as many photos as Justin so I am just going to post them here instead of starting a new TR. Enjoy.

On our way to Thompson Speedway on Sunday, Catrina and I got a call from Justin telling us that the races had been canceled. So we met up with him and his father at Geauga to get the coaster trip started a little early.

Nice of Geauga to let people know that some of their marquee attractions have gone the way of the dodo bird. They really weren't kidding when they said they would bring the park back to it's traditional roots.

Enter the coaster dorks!

The park was dead and Snoopy looked lonely, so Catrina and I posed for a shot with him. Sally looked on in jealous rage.

After traveling through the center of the rainstorm and seeing an Accord lit up in a blaze of glory, it was time to check in at Breakers Express. Here I am driving on the sidewalk to keep everyone dry as they enter the car.

The next morning we entered the park early as part of our Breakers Express deal. Unfortunately, Millennium Force was not cooperating so we made our way down to Maverick for our first ride of the day.

Hey Justin, didn't anyone inform you that Cedar Point shoots all camera violators on site (Note: They had been sitting in the brakes for about 2-3 minutes)

The Maverick loading area. Cedar Point does a lot of silly little things but I have always loved how they keep the stations from overfilling.

More Maverick riders.

"Hey Sandy and the Kids. I am standing in front of Millennium Force. How everything is going well

As demonstrated in this photo, the pollen count was pretty insane for our Cedar Point visit. There were moments where it looked like a blizzard. This is not an exaggeration.

Justin seemed to like Mantis more than the average visitor, but still ranked Riddler way above it. As do I.

Many coaster enthusiasts seem to relish the thought of being stuck on a coaster but this is one situation where I think i would pass.

Unfortunately for Justin, I brought a wealth of crappy weather to Cedar Point with me. His quest to get all the credits would be a challenge because of the constant storm fronts hitting the area.

At least the rain provided some great rides on Bluestreak.

So good that it was the only coaster in the park that I rode twice that day.

For the geeks.

Justin gets all excited when he sees that Raptor is running again. Too bad that it would be testing for the next hour.

Storm #2. We waited this one out in the picnic pavillions.

Storm #4. I think it is now time to go

I am still glad that the weather eased up a little bit after I left and that Justin still got to get some more rides in.

Very nice...minus the whole "taking a picture of the on-ride photo monitor" thing. The photos we take are the property of Cedar Fair, and photographing them is copyright infringement. I've had to kick out at least one person (and yell at countless others) for doing that repeatedly. We try to turn off a monitor if we see someone aim a camera at it, but we can't always be watching.

Seriously, though, if we find someone photographing our monitors after warning them already, we WILL call security. If they give us an attitude, we'll do it on the first offense. You're lucky neither Jessica nor I had been working the M-force booth that day. We get pretty defensive of our precious ride-photo screens

We actually don't have a sign up saying not to, really. We're supposed to remind guests in our spiels and yell something like "please do not photograph the monitors" if we see a camera held up, but otherwise you had no real way of knowing. It's likely one of my little green-tag stooges was slacking off that day and didn't notice you.

I'll yell at the crew about it tomorrow

Seems someone takes their job abit to serious. It is wonderful that you are that caught up in your job that much but you are telling me that the On-Ride Booth Nazies can get someone kicked out of the park for such a minor thing. That is pretty laughable if you ask me.

Nice pics guys. Looks like everyone had a great time.

So let me get this right.

There is no sinage as to not to take pictures of the monitors. Yet, CP allows their employees to reprimand a guest to the point of being kicked out?

Now that is the definition of customer service.

Plus, no picture of an onride picture on a computer moniter will be worth anything. Ill remember to take a video camera next time and just aim it at the whole thing to see if I can black out the entire screen.

Seriously though, thats one of many reasons CP disgusts me. They crab over the things that dont matter and then dont crab over the things that do matter. Whats it going to take to make them realize they still manage like theyve got their heads up their...

Some things just arent worth tackling.

I'm sorry, but WHY should a photo-booth even need a sign that says you can't take a photo of the monitor? Common sense says that, if you want that particular picture, you pay for it, not try to make your own little bootleg copy.

If they just allowed people to snap "photos of their photos", why even bother selling them? If you can have a copy for free instead of paying for it, why not just give ALL the photos away for free to everyone that rides?

You don't go into the merchandise shop and just grab anything you want without paying for it, do you?

The fact that many PTRs have been posted in which people post their "copy" of an on-ride photo is not something that - on its own - has ever caused me to butt in and add my two cents, but the fact that this discussion as to whether or not this photo-booth guy is taking his job too seriously is even taking place is ridiculous.

The same reason why there are signs that prohibit smoking while waiting in queues, signs prohibiting line jumping, signs prohibiting taking pictures while on rides, etc. If the park is going to have a policy where if a guest takes a picture of an ORP monitor you could be potentially be escorted from the park grounds it needs to be well known.

Having a young park employee try and enforce a policy that is not well known is really just asking for an argumentative situation. Chances are when a park employee did confront a guest about the policy, the first reaction would be humor- only because the park already has signs enforcing other policies, why not for this one? And when the employee pushed the issue saying again that it is park policy and it is serious, then comes anger. Common sense for the guest is now lost and emotions take over.

We can't assume that all people have the same type of common sense as you and me. I'm sure we both know that taking a quality photo from a TV monitor is virtually impossible.

Virtually impossible, yet absolutely harmless at the same time.

Alright Real, let me just go steal $10 from you.

No big deal right?

^ Apples to Oranges my friend. Steal a crappy photocopy of the $10 bill and now you have a comparison. The value is pretty much equal.

If you can have a copy for free instead of paying for it, why not just give ALL the photos away for free to everyone that rides?

That is a GREAT idea. I could totally see Holiday World doing this.

New for 2008!
