Erik Johnson
We just got back from the premiere of the Blue Man Group, that opens to the public on June 6th, 2007, at the Universal Studios Resort in Orlando, Florida. We were lucky enough to get invited to the VIP event. If you have not been following along with this new addition to Universal, the Blue Man Group (BMG) is a brand new upcharge show which is located right next door to the Universal Studios section of the resort. They transformed the old Nickelodeon studios into the BMG show. As for the show itself, we quite enjoyed it. It would be a perfect way to spend an evening with after a full day at the parks. Blue Man Group features three men (aliens?) who are decked out in blue paint who entertain the audience in a series of 10 minute skits that feature music, food, dancing, and a whole lot more. There is a lot of audience participation as well. It lasts around 2 hours and there is not an intermission. I think it will do really well in the Orlando area, it is unique enough as well as it is very family friendly. I would probably recommend that if you have kids under the age of 4 or 5, the music/sounds might be a little too much for them, but everyone else will have a good time. Tickets prices for adults are around ($59-$69) while kids 9 and under are around ($49). You can get a 10% discount if you are a preferred passholder. For a show of this scale its actually reasonable as most of the shows in New York or Vegas are $100 and up. Ok, as always here are a bunch of pictures from the event, some of these pictures are from Disneyfan1313. There is also plenty of concessions as well. Though it was free for the VIP party. If you want a Blue Man Group T-shirt or CD. You have to talk to these people. Since it is the Sharp Aquos Theatre. You had to have HDTVs in the buidling. Pretty nice in here. Ok, let us head into the theatre. The Box Office. Yeah, you need tickets for these kind of events. Then we picked up our tickets here. First we had to know how to spell. I think my name starts with the letter J. Pretty cool. Ready for the show? The old Nick Studios looks better now. The entrance is located in between Universal and Hard Rock Cafe. I guess we are considered VIPs. They have done a lot of work to the NASCAR Cafe. Its raining really hard. Yummy! We had a good dinner here. I think the one on the right is the smarter one. Leanne and the Blue Man Group. As well as new signs along the moving walkways. Citywalk looks to have a new Blue Man Group sign. Blue Man Group is now open. What is that I see in the distance? Yes, we are at Universal Studios Orlando.
Erik Johnson
Since photography and videotaping are not allowed in the theatre, we have nothing from the show itself, but we've got some of the stock photos from Universal below. So I guess you can consider this a Blue Man Group Photo: TR, without the Blue Men themselves. Anyways, unto the reception. Time to head home! They had a bus take us back to the parking lot. Again, it was a really well planned event. This really was a great event Universal. Thank you! He also had a really good sense of humor. A sing-a-long with only one word. They had a really good DJ there. Going back for more. Heh heh heh. Lots of photos and information about the show. Each of us did get a cool Blue Man Group program. Plenty of "normal" food as well. Yummy! They had plenty of the dessert shots, just like Mythos. There was an open bar. Cool stuff. Yes, this place was really decked out. Though I could not figure out if they actually had vodka in it. Plus they had special Blue Man Martinis. This was a really nice event. "Yes, you will have a good time!" Oh cool, its in a soundstage. "Welcome to our party!" Nothing will stop us from going to the party. Its nice to see that they use these things outside of Halloween Horror Nights. Yes, we had a red carpet, but it was soaked from all the rain. Time to go out into the rain. Universal is awesome, they had umbrellas out for those who did not bring one. These guys were cool. They are the BMG backup band. After the show.

Erik Johnson
Here is also a short video which was released from Universal. One thing to notice is that the live band behind the BMG is done quite a bit differently than is shown in the video. Instead of being directly behind the band, they are placed in 2 large boxes up above the stage. They are also decked out in clothing which makes them look like puppets due to the low lighting. bmg_medium.wmv Blue Man Group Promo. bmg_medium_888.zip Zipped Version
Erik Johnson
Sorry for removing the other comment posts all. I wanted to try to keep all the pictures together. To answer you questions, the show starts today. So if you were at the park earlier than that, it was not open yet. There was not a "soft-opening" or anything for it. And to the other question, I have no idea who "Tobias" is. Maybe you could explain a little more.

Maybe you could explain a little more. Tobias was David Cross's character on Arrested Development. He was a de-licensed physician who pathetically pursued an acting career that he had zero chance of obtaining. One of the subplots involved Tobias being on-call as an understudy for the Blue Man Group. Of course, he never got the part.
disneyfan1313
Thanks again Universal for having Theme Park Review at such a great event! It is a fun show with a great soundtrack. I think it will be a good addition to the Universal Orlando Resort.
splzero
I was planning to go see them. i was wondering where is a good place to sit? Up front is more but do you get to see the whole show with out having to scan the stage the whole time so you dont miss anything?
SharkTums
I think this will be a really great option for families and people that aren't into the 'club' scene at CityWalk. Should be a nice way to spend your night after the parks close. Thanks to Erik and Reed for covering the event for us!

Up front is more but do you get to see the whole show with out having to scan the stage the whole time so you dont miss anything? The first 3-5 rows are considered the "splatter-zone". Don't worry, they give you ponchos to wear. You might have to do a little bit of scanning in the front couple of rows, I honestly would recommend sitting a bit further back. We sat a little more than half-way back kinda on the center-left side of the stage and had really good seats. Plus the BMG does things out in the audience which may be a bit more difficult to see if you are sitting in the front rows. I would call the theatre medium sized in that it does not have a terrible seat in the house.

Don't be concerned with the splatter zone - you don't really get drenched or anything. There is just more a possibility of getting a tad bit wet. thefitness
Awesome! The after party looked pretty cool. My sister went to a BMG show ,and they were encouraged to take pictures and video. Anyways, this looks like an awesome addition to CityWalk.Hopefully I'll see a show before the summer ends.

cfc
I caught the Blue Man Group's show in NYC a few years back and thought it was hilarious. Might be worth catching this version next October. Thanks for the TR, Eric.

stingrock23
Great report. I've never been to one of their shows, or the Cirque show in Downtown Disney, but I'm going to hit this show the next time I'm down there. This really looks like something I would enjoy. bovinejumpsuit
Judging by your headwear and promo shots it looks to be the same show as was in London earlier this year, I really recommend it, went for my birthday and had a brilliant time.
