Hey everyone,

I'm heading up to SFOG for next Fri/Sat for my first trip there! I'm coming up from the Orlando area so has anyone stayed in a decent yet not overly expensive hotel in the area?

Most of the hotels located right next to Six Flags over Georgia are ghetto, but here are some tips I learned from when I went to SFOG three years ago.

1. Stay Away from Fulton Industrial Blvd.

From what I hear, this area is truly ghetto, and ignore the advertisements for hotels there. They are usually "crack motels" and located nowhere near SFOG's entrance.

2. Choices at Six Flags Pkwy. exit

There are three hotels that I know of on this exit that is a stone's throw away from the entrance. In order of closeness to the park:

1. Wingate Inn

2. Days Inn

3. Sleep Inn

I stayed at the Wingate Inn, which is the nicest and the newest and probably most expensive of the three. The Days Inn, from what I've heard, is ghetto-tacular. The Sleep Inn is modest and new, but further up the hill from Six Flags.

The Wingate Inn would be my top choice. Its around 80-100 a night, but kind of worth it, that and you can leave your car in the parking lot and just walk to the park without spending money on parking! [/b]

I actually don't like the hotels by the park, but that's just me.

The exit one exit East of Six Flags is the crackhead blvd. It's Fulton Industrial Blvd like he said. Anyway, it's ghetto nasty.

My favorite place to stay is one exit west of the Six Flags exit.

It will run around $89, but I think it's well worth it.

There is also a Country Inns & Suites near there as well. Be warned though, that hotel charges upfront instead of just holding your room. They are also more expensive than Fairfield.

Bonus: The Fairfield is right behind a Cracker Barrell!

Con: You would have to drive and pay $15 for parking

I stayed in a Motel 6 in Lithia Springs that's right near that Fairfield Inn. It was only $42, and one of the nicer Motel 6 locations that I've stayed at.

The stay was kinda ruined by the fact that the room was right next to the front desk. But, I imagine if you got another room it would have been fine.

If you're looking for a cheap room, this would be a good bet as this place is newer and very clean. It's only like 5 minutes away from SFOG as well. Just don't get a room next to the front desk!

I stayed at the Sleep Inn by Six Flags. It wasn't anything amazing, but it was fairly quiet, an ok price, and an easy walk to SFOG. Next time I go to SFOG though, I'll most likely check into the Wingate, it seemed to be the nicest option.

I'm checking out the Wingate right now.. looks nice! Plus being within walking distance is an added value when it comes to Six Flags! That pretty much saves at least $30 right there. Thanks for the input and saving me from becoming addicted to crack.

Yeah... I stayed at one of the hotels right up the street from the park (walked back and forth from the hotel to the park).. Sounds good so far right?

Well the pool was like.. In the parking lot.. And had nice brown/green water.. Yet kids were still in it.. I would have gone for a swim but I didnt wanna get malaria or west nile.. Oh and because it was like 90*s I kept the AC on overnight... And it broke.. Flooded out our room.. And killed my shoes.. yay

But here comes the best part.... And ones who had read my SFOG04 TR back on Thrillnetwork knows what comes now... So yeah.. to not make my post any longer... Ill just come out and say it..... THE HOTEL TOWELS HAD SHI.T ON THEM.....AS IF SOMEONE HAD USED IT AS TOILET PAPER!

Hello!!! WALL HANGINGS!?!?! Holes for showers!!!

Yeah, anyways...go for the Wingate!

I was wondering what the next guest thought of my little prank. James, I wish I had known you were the victim earlier.

When we were there we stayed at the Days Inn. It wasn't bad at all. The staff was totally nice, let us check in at about 830am so we didn't have to pay for parking.

They even called about 20 minutes after we checked in just to make sure everything was okay with the room.

Of course, we saw the Wingate and decided we would stay there next time.

Definately stay somewhere close so you can walk to the park.

I second the Fairfield Inn. IIRC, this is a newer place, and as is typical with any Marriot branded hotel, it is very nice. The price is reasonable, and you dont have to worry about any Poo-Towels.

I've always been a big supporter of Marriot, and Fairfield in particular, but ever since Marriot redid all thier rooms last year, they are better than ever. It may not be the closest to the park, but it is close enough, and actually nice.

living 15 min away, id DEFINATELY stay away from Fulton Industrial all the way to atlanta.

you pass six flags on I 20 and it gets soo much better.

I leave the park and go to Thorton Rd, the exit west of SFOG, to eat.

there are TONS of eating places there AND A WAL MART!

Also, depending on what time of day you're coming up...

If you take a left off the interstate onto Camp Creek Parkway (near the airport), thatll take you straight to where you need to go. Its name changes to Thorton Rd.

Take that way if you come on a weekday in the morning rush hour or evening rush hour.

Our rush hours start 30 min b4 you'd think and last 1.5 hours after you'd think it would end.

I'm currently looking for cheap flights from MIA to ATL as I might go to SFOG & Carowinds on 05/12 - 05/13 or something. so far I like the sleep inn right next to sfog which is about $70 a night (at least for AAA members). it seems to be pretty new too.

I think the biggest problem is gonna be finding a cheap flight. grrrr.

We ended up going with the Wingate! Wasn't too bad either.. only like $170 for two nights. That's about the same thing as staying someplace for $140 and having to drive so we figured why not?! The only crappy thing is I'll be at work (IOA) until 5pm on Thurs so we prob won't even get to Atlanta until LATE.
