Airtime&Gravity Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 I was reading the neutered coaster thread, and I realized that there were coasters that actually were bad, but got better on later visits. Cyclops-I really hated this coaster in 2005, and when I went this year, I wasn't expecting a better ride. To my surprise, this ride turned out great. While it is not a long ride, it delivers quite a thrill, and the banked drops actually produced air time which I didn't notice on my last visit. Raging Bull: Last year this ride was trimmed to hell, but in 2006, the trims didn't seem to be on as much. There was actually some good air time on the hills, and the only trim that was on hard was the final one before you hit the brake run.
texasgiantrules Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 after last year's retracking of judge roy scream, i've found that it provides more airtime and speed, and it's a lot less rough.
DenDen Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Steel Phantom to Phantom's Revenge was a HUGE improvement.
Wishmaster Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Goudurix! When it still had the Arrow trains it was the worst coaster on the planet, but with the Vekoma trains it only hurts a lot. (Yes, for Goudurix that is an improvement.)
jarmor Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 The one that sticks out in my mind is the change to lap bars on the FOF clones and other premier shuttle coasters.
Homer Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 If it happens... Gwazi with Millennium Flyers.
arrowfanman Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 I would argue the upgrades to Space Mountain in CA were quite an improvement. -Jahan
Guest Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 One i'd like to see is DejaVu's catch cars changed to proximity switches instead of timers (yes I know it has tons of prox switches, but thats not what the catchers run with). Whatever Vekoma moron that decided to go with timers deserves a dunce cap. Train speeds vary greatly, between load and weather conditions. Prox switches can measure the speed between cars etc which can put the catcher in better position, whilst timers dont work at all especially in really hot or cold weather because the train is traveling at different speeds and the PLC has to be adjusted (which is a major pain in the rear because it has to be played with and you go 1ms off and it miscatches over and over, those take awhile to reset). Its the same thing all the time, you find a good setting then it gets hot and starts retracting or misparking like crazy, then it gets cold and starts miscatching like crazy....Granted that wont happen because its not the way the ride is designed, but it should.
CoasterFanatic Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Premier Lim Coasters w/ OTSR -> Lapbars Legend w/ G-Trains -> PTCs Steel Phantom -> Phantom's Revenge Avalanche Run -> Disaster Transport (Until they let it go to hell) Hurricane Cat 5 -> Pile of Scrap
SFOGdude25 Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Raptor at CP used to be slowed down a LOT in the trim section now its barely trimmed at all.
benzo41190 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Ameican Eagle Red side. In 2003, the ride was sort of rough and barely had airtime. Now the ride has ejector air before the helix and after the helix....and theres alot.
cprocks22 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Raptor at CP used to be slowed down a LOT in the trim section now its barely trimmed at all. I noticed that too, i even thought there was a little air comming off the MCBR. Another big improvement was FOF w/out the OTSR, i didn't even get to ride it with and i know it would be painful just by how much my head jerked going into the cobra roll. the sound Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Eureka Mountain Mine Ride has picked up a heck of a lot of speed and "Out of Controlness" Since 2 years ago.
socalMAN123 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I've really enjoyed the new Space Mountain at DL rather than the old one. This one has some better effects and is just altogether more updated. The only thing I miss about the old one is the huge red asteroid in the middle of the ride. That was pretty cool! ---Brent
pkdcoaster Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Of course all Premier OTSR to lap bars. Somehow Phoenix gets better every year Other than that I suppose just the reliablility in high tech rides after the 1st or 2nd season. (Volcano, TTD, XLC, etc.) JEFF
