Anal plunge.

Where's that ride?!

If you have to ask, you've never ridden it.

Or maybe I already have ridden it. . . It just wasn't as good as everyone made it out to be, that's why it doesn't stick in my memory. . . *cough* Six Flags *cough*

See what happens when SDC teases us with a plunge?!

Plunge (v):to cast or thrust forcibly or suddenly into something, as a liquid, a penetrable substance, a place, etc.; immerse; submerge

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/plunge?s=t

To be fair though, you didn't list the large number of other ways the word can be utilized and defined, that have nothing to do with water, or any penetrable substance. It is because of those myriad other uses of the word that I don't automatically assume "plunge" means "going into water." Hence, my initial response to the fixation on that aspect. As a writer, and a bit of a wordsmith, it seemed like a narrow interpretation of the word to me, that's all. However, enough has been said on the matter, and I again apologize for my fixation on the fixation!

With Dollywood making their announcement today, should we be expecting any sort of an announcement soon? I'm not sure what they would announce, but would they go two years without announcing anything new?

. . .but would they go two years without announcing anything new?

It's very possible. It's not there is a law that requires them to build/announce something new every year. If it's suppose to be as big of a project as it's rumored to be, I could see them holding off till next year to make their announcement.

Random but while at the park two weeks I noticed maintenance guys stringing lights and struck up a conversation. They made it sound like this was all done in house so I don't think they are contractors, and they told me it takes over three months for their team to put up all the lights for the holiday event. The level of detail was impressive but it seems like hell stringing lights for Christmas in the blazing August sun.

^ Not surpirsed, when you have a lot of lights it takes a long time to get them all put up! With my measly 10,000 lights I still have to start putting them up in September to get them done in time. They put on a great display, and I'm not surpirsed they do it all in house!!

Well they obviously don't have to, but it's hard to get new people to come when you go multiple years with no new attractions. I would think they would at least want to do something at White Water.

Also, with how much clearing and rumors there are with the 2018 project, I'm not sure how long they'll be able to hold off announcing it. Are we only thinking this is coming in 2018 because that's what PhantomPoster told us? I don't get why they need until 2018 if they already have so much land cleared.

Are we only thinking this is coming in 2018 because that's what PhantomPoster told us?

Yes. That's the only reason why.

But then again, we were also told that "all signs point to B&M." So unless B&M now makes spinning coasters, I think said poster might be wrong. Therefore maybe it's going to be a 2017 addition after all and not a 2018 addition.

Yeah, I'm not buying that crap.

Like you, I can't see any evidence that this won't be for 2017. Anyone can pick a year that sounds pretty.

But, if this were to be for 2017, I think there would've been more teasing by now.

So over the past months this project has gone from "a coaster in 2017", to that coaster being a B&M, and now in just the past few months it has changed to a coaster coming in 2018 from a German manufacturer. If this ride was originally going to be a B&M coming in 2017, you would think they would've already had the plans with B&M and been ready to start construction. How do they change manufacturers after doing that and why would they? I won't know what to expect from this coaster until I hear an official announcement from SDC which could be anytime between now and next August/September.

Edit: Also, according to Screamscape, this is still under 2017 project rumors.

I'm the same way. I usually do about 100 strands of lights total in my display (Not sure how many lights that is but it is a lot. I do a very classy set up so I don't think it is obnoxious but it is a lot haha) and it takes me at least a month and I try to have it ready for the day after Thanksgiving.

I was just surprised the park doesn't have an outside company come in and do it. It seemed like it was a job given to a small team of staffed maintenance employees. If so, I am guessing they start early and it is a job they do between other things they run into normally. Anyways, considering they weren't a part of a separate lighting company I was very impressed by the detail efforts they put into making sure all the bulbs are perfectly aimed in the same direction and everything was so perfectly ruler straight. It looked beautiful and as much as I love Dollywood during the holidays I wish I could see SDC during the holidays too!

This is what happens when people assume they know what's going on with a park. I've decided especially in this thread to just wait for an official announcement from the park on any new additions they are getting. Given the history of this thread, you know, the "Oh it's a Dive Machine, now it's a flying coaster, now it's a hyper coaster, now it's a wing coaster, now it's a launched coaster, now it's a spinning coaster..." Yeah, no. I think the most creditable thing right now is the spinning coaster, and that's because it came straight from plans the park made public.

Take it for what it is, but I have been told by multiple park employees that the coaster is for next year, and without even asking. Usually they just see I have a T-shirt from a coaster event and assume I'll want to know that information. So, that doesn't mean any of them truly know for sure it's for next year, but I'm not ruling it out either. There's also a huge area cleared already, and several retaining walls built. With that much work done already, they very well could have it ready by March.

Of course they need something new every year. They want people to keep coming.

Something new, yes, but not necessarily something big. They've been alternating for a while now.

2007 - Giant Barn Swing (big)

2008 - Grand Expo (big)

2009 - shows and stuff (small)

2010 - Tom and Huck's River Blast (big)

2011 - Half Dollar Holler (small)

2012 - shows and stuff (small)

2013 - Outlaw Run (big)

2014 - shows and stuff (small)

2015 - Fireman's Landing (big)

2016 - shows and stuff (small)

Who knows what the park employees are told. Maybe they have just seen the clearing and assume it's for next year. I have no idea when to expect the coaster.

Just throwing this out there... But maybe it's a spinning coaster for 2017, and then a "large" coaster for 2018. . . .

We could do that

I came here to speak of this.

The point of that was that they always have something new, it's just not always something big, and it's not always a ride. They do a very good job of getting people back year after year, especially since this area isn't very densely populated and they have to pull people from farther away than most parks.

Yeah, I mean we're not even talking necessarily ride operators, either. One person who told me this was a waitress. I know I very rarely am told at work about things happening in other departments, so I wouldn't assume at all that this is accurate information. At the same time I'm not ruling out that the ride could happen next year. But if we wait until 2018, it won't kill me. I'll just enjoy it then.

This is precisely the conclusion I've come to as well, regarding Silver Dollar City, their new addition, and this thread. All the "hearsay" was getting quite confusing, and I've just decided to wait, see what the park actually says, and enjoy whatever, whenever.

I myself think there is gonna be a back to back coaster installation. Either in 2017-2018 then something afterward, before 2020. And I bet the concepts presented will be recycled/reused for whatever is not picked out already. And more I look at the clearing and think about it the more I think the spinner is not going there but in the area surrounding the Waterboggan Tower, at a later date. That area cleared and dug out by Echo Hollow is way too large for a teacup spinner. Unless they are actually gonna market it as the tallest and longest teacup spinning coaster. I still think a dive machine is due in the next 5 years and it would be perfect for the "Silver Mine" concept.

And while this park has fewer coasters than its counterparts the park has been known for adding big attractions in spurts.

1999 Buzzsaw Falls

2001 Wildfire

2004 Powderkeg

And lastly lets go back to this statement that was made a while back.

2017 - New Coaster - Rumor - (3/1/16) Remember that plan to add a coaster to Silver Dollar City in 2017 that I told you about? According to rumors sent my way the park pitched a few coaster concepts in a guest survey not long ago, asking guests to choose between what sounds like a Mack Launched Coaster with new style Spinning Cars (which Mack posted a video about back on Nov. 19th, 2015) or a very large B&M Dive Machine with 4 inversions.

And I am in no way pretending I am in the know since it is my home park but I am just going by what seems logical from what has already been observed.

^I would think that they would go with the smaller tea cup spinner then follow it up with the bigger coaster. But, the B&M rumor was thrown around way before the Mack spinner rumor was, so maybe that would come first IF your speculation is correct. I'm still not sold that a coaster isn't coming in 2017, but I don't think one is considering how much they usually tease for these big projects (unless it is a smaller coaster/addition in their opinion).
