How about a theme that involves not taking trains off when you have a huge line, the ability to order a drink, and a decent ride compared to the other credits in that park???

Damn, so now I guess we have to go back there on the Mainland Euro tour!

Mammouth Railroad sounds pretty cool, at least it hasn't been done yet. Yay for new mine trains!

Yeah, I agree, I voted for it because it was so original, espiecally compared to the other two themes, which are both generic mine themes like pretty much every other mine train.

Yeah....I didn't see any theming on their coasters.

Let's see:

Screamin' Squirrel.....

No Theming

Vekoma Death Machine:

No Theming

SLC:

No Theming

Kiddie:

No Theming

Sure they had some dark rides that were "ok" in the theming department, but nothing better than your typical Sally dark ride. I thought the Walibi Belgium dark ride was far better than anything at Gardaland.

^Fair point. I've always said the Squirrel looks awful where it is - Magic Mountain wasn't a great coaster with any notable theming, but pre-S&S butchery, that part of the park did have a pleasant ambience, something which loks like is long gone.

My main reference wasn't really the coasters you've shown, but their dark rides like Il Cosario are very good, and Fuga d'Atlandtide looks very nice. This is proof that Gardaland can theme rides well when they try to.

I would be surprised if they couldn't theme a mine train themed ride, but with your comments in mind I wouldn't be totally shocked if they didn't.

For the most part, Vekoma's mine traina are packed with theming, unless we are talking Diamond Devil Run which does look a bit sparse compared to the ones that you've been on.

The Mammouth Railroad sounds original, but even though they're not so original the other two sound good to, but still Mammouth is probarly the most interesting. I'm just happy they're getting a new coaster (hopefully a better one this time!).

I totally agree, from what i can see from the pictures, that part of the park looked alot more pleasant and beautiful without the Screaming Squirrel.

^Exactly. OK, it wasn't really 'themed' as such, but it looked good. Which is what Gardaland seems to do quite well, but good theming is not great theming.

In fact the area behind Magic Mountain where the kiddy coaster is would rival some Six Flags parks in the asphalt & concrete stakes!

I disagree, that Magic Mountain ride was perfectly themed. After all, with a gigantic line, they took a train off, and went to one train operation for no reason. If that doesn't say "Magic Mountain", I don't know how else they could theme it. Maybe hire line jumpers or something...

LOL

Also, Shockwave, the theming is the parks decision, it is just that, by coinencedence, Vekoma Mine Trains are usually purchased by parks that do good theming.

After seeing the theming example produced by Robb, I'd guess they would just make a train look like the theming for the ride and then just say.....ah whatever, and stop building, and then run the ride with the theming half built.

Anybody else getting a "Dragon Mountain" vibe here?

Gardaland announced a mine-train (Vekoma) for the 2008 season, but the visitors will decide the theme...

Which one would you pick ?

The new coaster is going to be themed as "Mammouth Railroad" which was choosen by more than 70% of the guests.

Yesterday it was Gardaland opening day so I went with some friends to see if the work for the new coaster was already started.

The area has been closed and part of the view was obscured by wooden panels. As soon as I'll get the pictures from my friend I'll post them here.

There's not much to see but here's the first construction photos!

Here's the wooden wall around the area:

Flying Island and the Free Fall Tower are still open so you can have a nice view from the top.

One thing I really hate about this construction site is that if you want to go from Blue Tornado to Space Vertigo now you have to go all the way around and pass from the old west area.
