BDG Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Maurer will show the world's first vertical roller coaster launch at this year's IAAPA (nov 15 - 18, Atlanta) Instead of a 3.5m/s chain system, the vertical lifthill of the x-car coaster can now be equiped with a 12.5m/s LSM mechanism as well, creating a launch sensation similar to a space shuttle launch. A similar - but horizontal - system will be used on the launch coaster for Drievliet (The Netherlands) photo
Calvin Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Well, we all know how great X-Car rides are...
PKI Jizzman Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Thats what I have heard^ Yawn....its just an X-Car coaster with a launch, intstead of a lift
Shockwave Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Yet again Maurer Sohne has got an awesome idea, but I just know it's gonna be hindered by the awful restraints on their X-Car rides. If they could build an X-Car restraint that doesn't squash your midrift flat as a pancake, this idea would be awesome.
niiicolaaah Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Sounds painful. I can just imagine the restraint getting tighter... and tighter.. and tighter... no thanks.
SharkTums Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Yeah that restraint was bad enough with a 'traditional' lift, I can't imagine getting launched vertically into it!
Reon Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Cool concept, but based on what I've heard about X-Coasters, it'll be worse than SoB, some Vekomas, and a bunch of miscilaneous bad coasters put together.
exmouse Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I found the restraint extremely comfortable. I got to hang from one a few years ago at IAAPA and was pleased that G Force got the same at DMP. I don't find it crushes me in anyway and I could hang from it for ages, albeit suffer from a head rush. The only restraint I prefer is the B&M clam shell on their speed coasters.
RCfanatic Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 The whole "launching vertical like a space shuttle" concept sounds great, i just hope they won't use the Sky Coaster lay-out (like on the picture) on these coasters, but the "Xtended" variant, or a custom design becouse the regular X-Car Sky Coaster looks a bit to short and boring IMO.
Cerberus Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Oh god, a vertical launch with both gravity AND acceleration forcing the 300lb rubber slab of death under your rib cage?! Those restraints are by far the worst I've ever used, and what makes it worse it how they advertised them as the wonderful, revolutionary thing that makes this ride worth installing. There's no point in having "unobtrusive" lapbar restraints if they just feel like having your lower body encased in concrete. I'd much rather have the over-shoulder system and be allowed to move/breath. Horrible, horrible gimmick coaster. Please invest the launch research time into one of their decent products, like the spinning coaster!
exmouse Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 The press release refers to it as the standard sky wheel design whereby it does two complete revolutions. On the second revolution the LSM works as a boost rather than a launch. But I see no reason why it couldn't be part of an Xtended track.
