Episode--Cabin Fever. 5/08/08

The quote the original author of this thread..........This episode was AMAZING!!! (obeygiant are you still around???)

This episode begins by showing us how Ben and Locke are kindred spirits. Both were born premature, to mothers named 'Emily', and neither was raised by their birth mothers.

Once again we see that Richard doesn't seem effected by the passage of time. The scene of him looking at baby John at the hospital, seemed like a moment out of the original Twilight Zone TV series.

The key scene in tonights episode was when Richard shows up at Locke's foster parents home. I imagine that for the eight month hiatus between now and next years season 5, that this scene will be heavily discussed/debated.

So is Claire dead? Time will tell, if I had to guess I would say no, though surviving that rocket attack on her cottage was a bit of a stretch.....

Finally, we learn how the Oceanic 6 will be chosen. When Sayid takes the zodiac from the ship to ferry people to and from the island, it's pretty clear that the zodiac should hold about "6" people???

I would speculate that Sayid will make it to the island and pick up 5 additional people and make it back to the boat. But, after he unloads those five (Jack, Kate, Sun, Hurley & Aaron) he'll turns around to go back to the island only to be unable to 'locate' it on the original 305 compass bearing. Because, by that point Locke (following Jacobs instructions) will have "Moved" the island. So Sayid will have no choice but to return to the ship, and that will give us our Oceanic Six.

And now we know why future Jack wanted to go "back to the island".

Bill - Maybe I missed something, why does Jack want to go back. Are you saying this because now he knows Claire is his sister? I think he wants to go back more because of overall survivor guilt.

OK - here is my question. Do any of the non-Oceanic passengers besides Ben get off the island in the end: Charlotte, Miles, Farrady or Desmond. Nobody knows any of them are on the island so does anyone think it is possible that they get back to civilization also.

^ I'm wondering the same thing. I think Penne eventually has to meet up with Desmond, but maybe they somehow get stuck on the island? I just don't see them getting killed so soon. The other issue is the C4-loaded freighter. Both Desmond and Jin are on it, and I still don't think Jin's dead, so maybe they end up swimming back to the island when it blows up.

OK, I read (this is not a spoiler) that the person in the coffin that Jack visited will be revealed in the season finale. My guess is Michael. He gets off the freighter but somehow is not part of the Oceanic 6 and has to take on an assumed name that's why the name in the newspaper clipping was not familar.

Also, I think somehow Miles helps save Ben in the end and Ben pays him back. Remember that flashback when Miles pulls the money out of the wall at Walt's grandmother's house. I'm predicting that it is not a flashback but a look forward.

It's finally here! Tonight is the season finale and I'll have to watch the repeat of the last episode since they are adding extra scenes or some such. MMMMMM...3 hours of lost goodness.

And Larry, my bet is on Ben being in the coffin.

My understanding is that they have added footage of the press conference. I don't think it's going to be anything earth shattering since I'm sure it was cut initially because it wasn't really needed in the narrative. As to if it's worth it or not, I guess it depends on if you usually watch the deleted scenes on DVD's or not.

Of course the additional scenes could also be the key to the WHOLE THING!

SPOILER FOR WEST COAST AND INTERNATIONAL PEEPS!!!!!

Larry, the new footage had Jack explain the other people that made it to the island but then died before rescue. Boone died soon after making it to shore due to massive internal injuries, Libby made it then died of something, and Charlie drowned a few weeks before being rescued.

Excellent finale.

And now OMG we have to wait until.... January or February???

Sad that they now put so many months between "seasons," ho ho ho.

I know that various strikes and unforeseen circumstances have one way or the other altered programming, not to mention cable, etc. Still.

It used to be just the summer months we'd have to wait, right? Then September came, and we were off and enjoying it all again... sooner.

Oh well, patience till 2009. Rant over, lol.

(And still waiting for HEROES to start up again this fall... I think.)

(^Yeah, me too! Heroes starts in late September!)

The finale was really good. I also felt like the show was ending when they were rescued. I'm really excited to find out what's been happening on the island that so bad. I can't wait for the next season.

So who thinks Jin actually survivied? I can only hope

Speaking of death, I found this interview between TVGudie and Harold Perrineau (Michael) and found it interesting. He does seem a bit bitter about being killed off.

Link

TV Guide: Did you know Michael was being killed off when you returned?

Harold Perrineau: I had no idea. It's like, what the hell? I came back for that?

TV Guide: You're laughing as you say that, but you don't sound particularly pleased.

Perrineau: I'm disappointed, mostly because I wanted Michael and Walt to have a happy ending. I was hoping Michael would get it together and actually want to be a father to his kid and try to figure out a way to get back [home]. But this is [the producers'] story. If I were writing it, I would write it differently.

TV Guide:: So when did you get the news?

Perrineau: [Lindelof and fellow executive producer Carlton Cuse] called before the finale scripts were out. They said they weren't going to continue with Michael.

TV Guide:: And what did you say to that?

Perrineau: At this point, I've been on the island, off the island, back on the island — so I just went, "Oh, ok." [Laughs] This is their show and they know what they can or cannot write. I thought it was disappointing and a waste to come back, only to get beat up a few times and then killed. I felt like it was sort of pandering to some fans who wanted to see Michael punished because he betrayed people.

TV Guide: Are you referring to when he shot and killed Ana Lucia and Libby in Season 2?

Perrineau: Exactly. I honestly feel like Michael's death served a really weird bloodlust for the fans.

TV Guide: Were you disappointed Michael and Walt didn't reconnect before your character died?

Perrineau: Listen, if I'm being really candid, there are all these questions about how they respond to black people on the show. Sayid gets to meet Nadia again, and Desmond and Penny hook up again, but a little black boy and his father hooking up, that wasn't interesting? Instead, Walt just winds up being another fatherless child. It plays into a really big, weird stereotype and, being a black person myself, that wasn't so interesting. [Responds Cuse: "We pride ourselves on having a very racially diverse cast. It's painful when any actor's storyline ends on the show. Harold is a fantastic actor whose presence added enormously to Lost."]

TV Guide: Take me back to your last day of shooting.

Perrineau: My last day was kind of hectic. [Production] was trying to get me out because, at the time, my wife was a centimeter dilated.

TV Guide: Was she in labor at the hospital when you got back to L.A.?

Perrineau: No, I got home and then for another week, the baby would not come! We were like, "Seriously, dude, I was in Hawaii rushing like a madman!” I was talking to the baby, my wife was walking around, practically hiking, but the baby just would not come out! [Laughs] So we went to the hospital a week later and induced. A beautiful little girl came on May 7. Wynter Aria — I thought it was a nice name. It's poetic, and she's a little poetry in our life.

TV Guide: Let's talk highlights. Surely, you had some positive experiences on Lost.

Perrineau: Doing the job in Hawaii was cool. Getting to meet and work with [co-creator] JJ Abrams was very cool. The day we found out the show [premiered] so well [in 2004] was an amazing day. We were all so hopeful and excited. The first season was one of my best years as a working actor. Not to say there weren't tough times, but I loved the first season. And that one of my best friends, Dan [Dae Kim, who plays Jin], and I got to do pretty much the whole finale together.

TV Guide: Dead characters have a way of returning to the show. Would you be open to that?

Perrineau: I'd love to go back and work with people I really like working with, but I would have to know what was happening [story-wise] before I showed up again. Because this [last] storyline, I full-on feel, "No, that's not cool.'"

TV Guide: What's next for you?

Perrineau: This movie I did with Stephen Dorff called Felon is probably coming out at the end of the summer. And I'm in talks for a couple different films.

TV Guide: Any final thoughts?

Perrineau: Just that I hope the show continues to thrill people. I'm sorry to have to go, but I'll see you in another incarnation. I'll re-create myself because that's what I do. That part of leaving is pretty cool.

Honestly if he has that bad of an attitude about it all now, no wonder they killed him off!! I doubt he was much better on set. And to play the race card?!!? NOT COOL!

Now I hope even more that he's truly dead and Jin is alive!!!!

I was pretty shocked to see Locke in the coffin.

I thought Ben was awesome in this episode! I love the scene with him and Locke down in the Orchard.

It was definitely a better finale than last season for me. I still want to find out who Jacob is!

^^Who says that Locke can't still be alive on the island? Remember the Doctor on the freighter? Time is different on the island.

I thought it was a great two hours last night and I'll be waiting anxiously for next Jan.

I know I've said before that I though Jin was dead, but what I failed to take into account is that Sun THINKS Jin is dead. I believe he is very much alive and was/will be picked up by Daniel in the zodiac he was using to ferry people to the freighter.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how the narrative will pick up in Jan. Will the "present" now be on the mainland with "flashbacks" to the island? Or do they have something totally new in store for us?

Theories people!

^That's what I've been wondering. I've heard that next season is supposed to be all about the "Oceanic 6" trying to get back to the island and then the season after that will be about what happens when they get back. It will be interesting to see if we get any information about what's happening on the island next season. I hope we do, because I want to see what "bad" things have been happening.
