dylang
What is the point of the U- Turn curved drop out of the station on most B&Ms before the chain clanking marathon begins?
thomas2
Umh so that the layout of the coaster isn't too large Otherwise you have the brakerun, station and lifthill all in a line behind eachother, and that takes up alot of space. Strange question...
rollermonkey
^ What he said. Plus, B&M doesn't always do it. Last B&M I rode was Pyrenees, and it makes about a 5 degree turn out of the station without any drop before engaging the lift. Other companies do it, too. Eejanaika does it, (S+S Power) Drachen Fire did it, (Arrow) Aska did it, (IntaminAG) and Vekoma Loop-Screws do it.
TheKlockster
Most of the coasters I have been on do it. Many coasters do the full 180 - where some coasters just do 90 or something.
Canobie Fan
Most? Uh. Only a some. B&M coasters with out "U-Turns" out of the station. ECZenith
I notice a lot of coasters have u-turns not just B&Ms. B&Ms just seem to have more of a steep banking like Nitro for example. But yeah, definately reandom.

easytoremember
I said most of the ones I have been on. Not just B&Ms - CCIs, Gravity Group, Arrow... Um.... m'kay Gravity group: The Voyage- about a 45 degree turn, then another 45 degree turn, so its going the same way it was starting Hades- about 1/5 of the coaster is before the lift, so I don't think it qualifies. This easily makes the top ten dumbest questions list on TPR. I dont think that is fair, or frankly very nice to say. Just because someone doesn't know something you know doesn't make it the dumbest question ever.
pkdcoaster
its top ten.. Why do some coasters have chains? JEFF

viking86
I think you are misunderstanding his question a bit. I cant tell for sure, but to me it seems like hes asking why is there a dip in the middle of the turn instead of having just a flat 180 degree turn. I dont know why, but I know that the pre-lift turns always surprise me a little and really helps increasing anticipation for the big drop.
thomas2
^Yeah maybe that was the question I can tell for sure I love that prelift turn. The one on Superman - AdA always kept amazing me
steel
You guys are being absolutely cruel. There is no harm whatsoever in asking a question, and there is no such thing as a dumb question. ECZenith
If you're asking about the "dip" during the pre-lift curve, I would assume it is just cheaper to design the track to use gravity to bring the train to the lift rather than kicker wheels, just more machinery to maintain. A lot of wooden coasters have these as well.
thomas2
You guys are being absolutely cruel. There is no harm whatsoever in asking a question, and there is no such thing as a dumb question. If everyone knew everything, there would be no point in living. I think you're overreacting. This question posed is very simular to the following: "Why do coasters (in particular B&M's) have bends/turns?" See that's a ridiculous question. Anyone here knows the answer to that question. A coaster with no bends should be a freaky long one (more then 40.000 km). Some questions are just questions most of us know the answer of, and those questions look silly in OUR opinions. Hope you understand! Batman The Ride - SFGAdv Nope. http://rcdb.com/ig32.htm?picture=6 Canobie Fan is right though, BTR doesn't have a U-turn I think you misunderstood it
pkdcoaster
OK...in the title it reads "B&M U-turns-what is the point?" He could have worded it much better. If he is asking about the dip then it is more fun than a flat turn. JEFF
