Farewell, Terminator. Not sad to see this go to be honest, it was a cool show but based on a film which hasn't aged well. Harry Potter will be a great addition to a park which really needs something fresh. Now to update the War of the Worlds and Whoville parts of the studio tour...

Although I do enjoy Terminator, the attraction is old and outdated, so it is time for it to go. I'd rather they get something other than Dispicable Me to replace it (preferably not a simulator since USH already has two), but I guess if the attraction is considered one of the best at USF it might be a good fit. The only question is how long it will take for the ride to open, as I believe it was a ten month constuction schedule in Florida. Doesn't sound like they're too likely to make a summer 2013 opening date, but you never know.

^Due to space constraints it seems like USH is always going to be biased toward simulators/shows that don't use up much room. During my visit last year our tour guide kept talking about all the cool stuff they want to do but can't because there's not enough land to build it on (cough* Citywalk).

Still, Movie World has a similar problem and they've managed to put in a couple of excellent yet compact rides that have reasonable throughput (Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster and Justice League).

I have always wondered if USH would ever get a coaster similar to Rip Ride Rockit. That ride was put in without taking much space at all and seems to be a hit with the GP. It would obviously have to be a different layout but something like it could probably be put in with a little creativity.

Shouldn't this thread be made into the all purpose USH thread?

The moderators are one step ahead of you, we always are.

It is being repurposed and should be available shortly.

^^ It is my understanding that due to having a real working outdoor studio so close by, they can't really have any outdoor rides where screams would be heard by cameras doing actual filming.

Thank you that makes total sense. So if a coaster were to be fit in it would have to be near the front entrance to even have a chance of not effecting filming or is there just filming all over and there is no way this complication could ever be fixed or worked around?

Solution: Scream Shields.

^ Some people should be made to wear those things on their heads. Especially the girls sitting behind me at Maroon 5 on Friday night. Ears are still ringing...

Regarding the noise issue I imagine it's a bigger deal in the lower lot, which is closer to the studios and backlot. Noise from rides near the front gate probably wouldn't carry all the way down there.

Just curious, but what about something like Hollywood Dream at USJ, with the sound walls like on Silver Star at Europa over the tops of hills? I don't know how well those work (or, for example, the California Screamin' tubes), but might something like that ever be a possibility?

has there been any details (other then the Hotel) about the city walk expansion?

Am I the only one that is going to miss the Water World show? it was always a fun show to go to during the summer. And it is kind of a classic. When I was like 10 I used to taunt the actors and tell them to do their worst to me (to get me wet). Many times they took 4 buckets and just dumped them on me.... Ended up being soaked the whole day, but that was always fun...

After visiting the park a few months ago, I'm glad that they're replacing this with a new attraction.

My main issue with the Hollywood version (The Orlando one didn't have this issue) was the EXTREMELY loud nature of the film. There's a difference between loud and ear-splittingly painful...and T2 was right on the border, or crossing it, for nearly the entire movie portion. Overall it was a great attraction, and I hope they do a great job on the Despicable Me (of course I'm assuming it's probably a copy of Orlando's).

Unfortunately, there is a difference between the level of quiet needed for a movie versus appeasing neighbors.

It really is a bummer that there is such a restriction like this as there are places where a compact coaster could be creatively fit in.

Why? Who wouldn't rather have a well themed indoor coaster? I'd take something as small as Space Fantasy over the biggest B&M or Intamin on the market.

Posted

I wouldn't because the park does not have the space. If the park wanted to put something in like Space Fantasy that means removing some other attraction where as an outdoor coaster could roam around the park like Rip Ride Rockit and stick to areas that couldn't be used for much else.

^I don't see that happening, either. Universal in Holloywood is first a working movie and TV studio, then a theme park. Noise is too much of a problem during production.

Plus, I like well-themed, indoor coasters (like Mummy), as well.

I agree with this. I'd rather Universal just completely re-do the Mummy USH has than to build an outdoor coaster with inversions. If USH had one highly themed roller coaster with descent airtime and speed like Orlando's Mummy, I don't think Uni needs another coaster with inversions. I'd rather USH just focus more on purely themed rides instead.

There's about a 20,000sqft difference in building space between Hollywood and Orlando's versions of Mummy. Plus Orlando's is a taller building as well. Would have been impossible to clone the two rides. Plus, the 48" inch height requirement is a killer when the park only has so many rides to begin with and the target audience is families. I don't see any big thrill rides in USH's future...
