I really think that certain parks could hold off for awhile to get a coaster. Let Valleyfair or Michigan's Adventure get one first. I think they are the parks with the least coasters. They certainly deserve one, IMHO.

If anyone wants to watch the announcement live it is at 11:00 AM Eastern (10:00 AM Central). Here is the link, https://www.carowinds.com/what-s-new/2015-announcement- If VF is put into the same group of growth as this place, the water park expansion is going to be huge, and I wouldn't expect anything but a top-notch coaster for 2016 or 2017. The cost of the new Carowinds coaster is probably going to be in the 25-30 million dollar range, could VF get a 15-23 million coaster in the near future?

I had a short conversaion with Mr. Frazier via Txting and was able to narrow down the announcement date for next years expansion (Waterpark makeover! My prediction!). He said that it would take place after labor day but before Haunt! So breaking it down that means any day from September 2nd through September 19th is when we will hear and see the announcement for 2015. So we have to wait a little bit longer but we know a time. Of course he knows that I would be spreading that around so maybe he is trying to catch us by surprise by making an announcement sooner than that! What's everyone think?

He hasn't lead you on so far so I doubt he is trying to catch you (or us) off guard. My guess is between Sept. 2nd and the 5th since he confirmed demolition would be involved and if they get started right away because they would want people to know before they visit the park on September 6th and see the demolition. They could wait until the 19th but then that is letting 2 weeks of demolition/construction go by and the earlier the better with Minnesota winters because you never know how harsh or long they will be and I am sure they want it open by Memorial day as they usually do.

I sure hope so, an 18-20 million coaster I imagine would be a nice coaster, especially for VF. The size and scope of the water park expansion announcement will tell us if this will be possible. That will give us a sign of how much CF thinks VF is a growth park. This is why I am anxious to see what the water park expansion announcement will be.

I was looking at different inverts and these are some of them with the cost at the time and the cost adjusted to inflation.

Great Bear @ Hersheypark- $13 million, adjusted is 19 million

Talon @ Dorney- $13 million, adjusted is 17 million

Patriot- 14 million, adjusted is 16 million

Raptor @ Cedar Point- 12 million, adjusted is 19 million.

Bnshee @ Kings Island- 24 million

Ok, I don't think we are getting a Banshee sized invert, but there are many great inverts in the 16-19 million range. That isn't to much for a growth park is it?

Yeah, I don't think 18-20million is out of VF reach. We defenently deserve a coaster in that price range, and it would attract so many people to our park.

Well didn't they just get goldstriker?
One roller coaster since they re-acquired a permanent ownership on the place (which was almost three years ago now) doesn't scream to me a major long-term investment. Not asking for another coaster, but maybe a family ride package or (better yet) a water park expansion.

Valleyfair just posted to their website that season passes for 2015 are on sale now, and that when current passholders purchase one, they may use one free Fast Lane pass this season. Kudos to Valleyfair for that.

Also, Kings Dominion just announced their 2015 project, and they are getting a pretty good waterpark expansion. The size of their expansion is about the size that we've been expecting Valleyfair's to be, so what VF gets could be similar to what KD gets.

I have to say I am VERY impressed with Fury325. I'm jealous. I wish Valleyfair could get something like it. But I highly doubt it.

Even if we got half of Fury 325 (6600 ft. long) at 3300 ft. long I would take it! That is some serious length. I like how they allow people to walk over the tunnel for Fury 325.

It shouldn't be, I will take a Raptor sized invert for sure. Need to see this water park announcement to see if we can dream that big for VF.

Is that Fast Lane for just one ride or for the whole day like a Flash Pass? In the email I got from VF it calls it "One Free Fast Lane" and does not say pass so I assume it is for one ride. If it is for the whole day and it has to be used in 2014 and they only sell so many a day I doubt they could make this work so that must be one ride. Anyone know for sure? Either way I will be taking advantage of it.

I've never heard Valleyfair refer to it as the Fast Lane pass, just Fast Lane, so hopefully they mean that you actually get a wristband for a for a full day.

On the website it doesn't say fast lane pass, it just says fast lane.

Hopefully, but if you only sell (or give out) so many a day and you have to use it in 2014 (only 36 days left including Haunt) can the park really do this if EVERY current gold pass renews and takes advantage of this? The Fast Lane queue may be longer than the regular queue then during the 2nd and 3rd weekends in September. If it is a full day pass then I will surely break my personal record of 16 laps in 5 hours on Renegade. Never had a Fast Lane at VF so that could be interesting. I am sure I would ride Power Tower and the Xtreme Swings more than once a visit like I usually do.

The free Fast Lane for renewing your Gold Pass does last all day. When you click on BUY to renew your pass it reads this:

"RENEWALS: Enjoy one day of FAST LANE during the 2014 season, when you renew your 2014 Season Pass. Single Day Fast Lane ticket must be used by November 2nd, 2014 and can be redeemed by presenting your season pass at any Fast Lane selling location."

Only 36 days left (probably less due to October and November weather).

Thanks for the info. It will be nice to use on one of the busier days late this season.

I don't want to agree with you but I have too. I was originally thrilled when I heard closing weekend would be in November, but this is Minnesota, and there could easily be a few inches of snow on the ground then.

Also, if Valleyfair can stay open until the first weekend in November, then what's their excuse for waiting until mid-May to open each year?

Posted

VF15, I was wondering the same thing when I saw that VF was open until November. I looked at average temperatures for Shakopee, and this is what I found.

November 2nd- Average high 51 degrees.

April 1st- average high 52 degrees.

I think that they stay closed until May is that snow takes a long time to melt. I've had snow in my front yard in early June before, so maybe they don't want snowy coaster? I don't think that snow does anything to a coaster other than make it a very cold ride. I think that a snow coaster ride would be fun, I mean seriously

, that looks awesome.

Well, I did just remember that the Minnesota River is subject to flooding each spring (VF is right next to it), but I don't know when it does flood or how severe it gets each year, and that might have an effect on when the park can open. However, all things considered, I think the park could be able to open sometime in late April because in a typical year, all of the snow is usually gone by then besides the big piles.

I am still excited for the November dates. I have never been on a coaster in November in Minnesota. Now that it is possible I want to get that 'credit'. Unfortunately it could be 52 degrees, 3 inches of snow or rain, it's Minnesota in November. If it's open, I'll be there! I rode last year during a Friday Haunt when it was 44 degrees with jeans, long sleeve shirt and a hoodie on. It was chilly but not too cold to ride any of the rides. The exception to that was Wild Thing, the first drop in that cold of weather made your eyes water pretty good so I did not re-ride it like Renegade and SV.

Do you all think that this means anything? I just noticed this while browsing the website and thought it might be worth a mention. I don't remember Excalibur ever closing pre-haunt. Take a look for yourself.

Obviously, the coaster enthusiast in me is thinking OMG OMG 2016, but I'm maintaining realism. I'm heading to Valleyfair tomorrow, and I'll be sure to report anything that I might see.
