neovortex2k
I just finished watching a National Geographic special on Kingda Ka under the title of Megastructures. 1. They said that Millenium Force was that fastest coaster built when it was built in 2000 when Superman The Escape was. 2. When they mentioned Superman The Escape at SFMM they showed a clip of Superman:Ultimate Flight instead of Escape. What a mess up by National Geographic all be it kinda small they are still suppose to professional.
Worm
I saw that show and they crearly said MF was the fastest closed circuit and they did actually show SFMM's superman. No realy, i saw it yesterday!
neovortex2k
Ok The may have said closed curcuit as i'm at home sick with a cold and needed to blow my nose and could have missed. I'm sorry they never showed The Escape after mentioning it and SFMM but they definitly showed Ultimate Flight. I watched it no less than an hour ago.I am in Ireland but i doubt they'd change the episode.
thomas2
Yeah they didn't showed the Superman of SFMM. "For speedfreaks, the watershed moment came in 1996, with Superman the Escape at SFMM" or something like that and they clearly showed a B&M flyer. It really annoyed me
mightypotato
In a recent issue of National Geographic, they were advertising their Megastructures show about roller coasters and they had a picture saying "Riders go head over heels on Dragon Khan in Salou, Spain". That's cool, except they were showing a Vekoma SLC as the picture of "Dragon Khan". Last time I checked, Dragon Khan was a B&M sitdown looper. RCfanatic
Yeah i saw that episode a few weeks ago, and i also saw Ultimate Flight instead of The Escape! I guess with all these Superman Coasters that National Geographic got them mixed up, but its still a stupid mistake, i mean S:UF totally doesn't look that fast... FlyingScooter
Now if they'd just edit in the right clips at the right time... I love stock footage. Everytime they show TTD on these shows, they have racing slicks on the back of the trains. They stopped using those in year one of the ride becasue one of them fell off. CoasterFanatic
Doesn't really matter. You know why? Because "The Escape" ISN'T a coaster!
BiCoastal Kid
Doesn't really matter, you know why? Because it's trivial! No seriously, why would it bug you?

Rollerholden
Didn't Cedar Point advertise MF as the "tallest and fastest coaster" when it opened?
mightypotato
Didn't Cedar Point advertise MF as the "tallest and fastest coaster" when it opened? I'm pretty sure they did. But I also think they advertised it as the "tallest and fastest complete circuit coaster" or something to that effect.
BiCoastal Kid
Well, it IS faster than STE now.... not many rides aren't.
twisted_propaganda
I only watch those coaster specials if they show prototypes and/or mechanical/mathematical stuff. I love that stuff It's funny because everytime I hear someone talking about Tatsu they say something about it being the "tallest fastest rollercoaster" in the world, when it was advertised as the "tallest faster flying coaster". Leave it to Six Flags to advertise like that, haha. They know that nobody will notice the "Flying". I hope Cedar Fair buys Magic Mountain.
owen
Superman the escape is a coaster it runs on rails it also relies on gravity on the return journey. It's a coaster if it had a loop in between the station and the spike would you then class it as a coaster.
CoasterFanatic
^ Looks like a big 1st Generation Drop Tower to me, but whatever makes you sleep better at night ... // all in good fun
neovortex2k
I do class it as a coaster but i think it's cheatin.
Rollerholden
If Superman is a coaster, then I think Survivor at PGA should count too. And yes, I count Superman as a credit.
coasterguy618
2. When they mentioned Superman The Escape at SFMM they showed a clip of Superman:Ultimate Flight instead of Escape. Well you obviously havent seen a Six Flags commercial before.
Calaway Park
Lol, I've had an experience like that with my moms boyfreind. When he read the newspaper he claimed they were building the worlds tallest and fastest coaster when he was talking about Goliath at La Ronde.
