The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

For anyone who has been on Insane, which side do you prefer to face on the coaster, like comparing the two different POVs in the video?

I wouldn't really use Insane as a guideline, as I prefer to sit facing the water for the gorgeous view! Perhaps you might want to sit facing backwards so you don't know when that first drop is coming? But depending on the weight distribution I've been facing the drop but still unable to see it due to heavier people behind us. Just another reason this ride is so awesome as you can get a totally different ride everytime you go on it!

You'll probably get a different ride every time you go on Green Lantern if Insane is anything to go by, which means grand ol' Jeff Johnson will need a scientific calculator to count the credits. I have to admit, on Insane when I was on the outside swinging out, I really copped it in the guts.

I hope they have an interesting queue because the lines for this will probably be huge, it's such a different ride experience, and unique for the USA. Boy SFMM has such a varied coaster line up now - Zacspin, 4D, Arrow looper, floorless, stand-up, invert, GI boomerang, GCI, flyer, reverse freefall, hyper, dual track woodie, suspended, schwarzkopf, mine train...

^ I'm thinking if people go to GL first thing, they'll have a better shot at a couple of rides. The lemmings are still going to run to X2, Viper and Tatsu. I'm also hoping for an entertaining, interactive queue for GL, because mid day lines are going to be outrageous. Otherwise, thank God we live in the era of the q-bot and smartphone!

I think Insane is cooler than Green Lantern because of the height above sea-level; the pov segment when you hit the brakes facing downward at the water looked freaky, kind of how the drop is like on X2. I wonder how the views will be like on GL

Personally, I think they should hold off on adding Flash Pass to Green Lantern till it's been open awhile. Otherwise, if it's popular, there will be a lot of FP holders waiting to ride and the regular line will barely move, if at all.

^Hopefully, they'll include this one on the Q-bot, not an upcharge like X2 after you get a gold or higher q-bot.

I think it will only come with Gold or Platinum but not as an upcharge.

I hope either of these turns out true.

I was thinking for sure they would use this to get more people to pay for a platinum flashpass & then still charge it as an extra.

I noticed a couple of places on the track where the cars get very close to each other. Of course they're not going to hit, but depending on which way the riders are facing, it could be an unnerving sight. But that will just add to the thrill.

It would be nice if all coasters with inversions could adapt the ZacSpin-type OTSRs.

Heh, tell the guys at Lo-Q how you don't want to include the brand new ride that everyone will want to buy a Flash Pass for to NOT be included on the system! I'm sure that will go over well....

As a customer, the #1 ride I would want on the Flash Pass is going to be the most popular one with potentially the longest line!

Well, according to the Green Lantern official website, Flash Pass access is available for Gold and Platinum Flash Pass only. No mention of a upcharge yet.

Let's see what happens once the coaster is open for a while.

Don't they let the fast pass users on in groups? Like say there's 50 fast pass users in the fast pass line for a ride. They let a train fill with flash pass users, then they let the next train be general public. Or at least something to that effect. Also if not, shouldn't they offer flash pass holders change to a diffrent ride. Like say if your in line for Riddler, but SFMM let's you change your thing for tatsu, but you don't have to wait. But rather just walk over to it.

Anyway's if people want in front of the line so badly on new riders, they could cough up the 299.99 for the VIP tickets which grant front of line access all day some free food... and apparently a private hut or something in the water park. Though yeah I'll admit that's a lot. 299.99 per person.. good god.

I've never seen them load an entire train with just Flash Pass but that would be ideal on a super busy day if the scheduling software worked out that way.

The VIP route would alienate a lot of people at the $300 per person.

I like Q-Bot but I do prefer USH front of the line pass more + you get a cool lanyard.

Ugh, one of my issues with the Flash Pass type systems is how much it substantially effects the GP line - especially on rides with such low capacity.

I probably won't be waiting in line to ride this when it first opens anyway, so I won't have to worry about it. But I still have sympathy for my fellow coaster enthusiasts who have to wait in line.

Went to go check out the park today...

sfmm_feb2011_01.jpg.cbc1fd6db83b094b6c004472d4b1807c.jpg

It's kind of funny to think that just one month ago there was snow covering the mountains behind the park...

sfmm_feb2011_05.thumb.jpg.2a76422ac9ebc8200da90803cdd4c0ec.jpg

And today...bright, sunny, and blue skies! (This is where I parked, BTW, so I wouldn't forget where the car was!)

sfmm_feb2011_07.jpg.05bedc1ee27d4e0162e28ddd42923fe2.jpg

Looks like one of the trams was attacked by the Skittles!

sfmm_feb2011_07a.thumb.jpg.9d69a0ed9c4a483e0aa8684e10f1a8af.jpg

Translation... "It runs on farts."

sfmm_feb2011_08.thumb.jpg.0c153daa38fc82d21dc6f0da71549e7b.jpg

Just in case you forgot what park you're at...they put up a sign! Hooray!

sfmm_feb2011_09.jpg.3c53ebf1eaf78b38ad010dd6b3efdcf5.jpg

Today's theme at SFMM is dirt...lots of dirt.

sfmm_feb2011_10.jpg.7733096196769393e1c79f0a9a8b72bd.jpg

The Roller Skater is actually underneath that giant dirt mount. When it opens, it will be called "Dirt: The Ride." (Not making this up!)

sfmm_feb2011_11.thumb.jpg.7e27e9e6aa8bb3da414a0a576de69a48.jpg

Everyone will have to wear a hard hat to enjoy "Dirt: The Ride".... they cost $8 each.

sfmm_feb2011_12.jpg.a6eddbc5ffb423caa6d797c77c3dc640.jpg

I'm told they are taking out this ride and putting in a B&M Wooden Pirate Ship. I wouldn't lie to you!

sfmm_feb2011_13.thumb.jpg.260e562b85356a29d5a21c2b00682cde.jpg

Thomas Town is now re-themed after the very popular Damon Wayans Super Hero flick, "Blankman"

sfmm_feb2011_13a.jpg.dc66f69a2a25d6d66fe4bf40cf043398.jpg

New signs is the most exciting thing going on here.

sfmm_feb2011_13b.jpg.339cf7ac4e30e497a87891d7ddb7b14b.jpg

More Blankman theming.

sfmm_feb2011_14.jpg.4ece50decb9f7c2c98d041c3790e86b2.jpg

It's pronounced "Dee-pot"

sfmm_feb2011_15.jpg.9ba4fdf3a37f4818514374bef617c5a5.jpg

What a great shot of that palm tree!

sfmm_feb2011_16.thumb.jpg.48dfad317b52a060b78585fb584c8a48.jpg

And another great palm tree shot!

sfmm_feb2011_17.thumb.jpg.9c60dd4d6c50b6524a44a6ac88c470ce.jpg

Oh, this one's not so good.

sfmm_feb2011_18.jpg.5428e3b7bc97ad8110a96b4199f57151.jpg

Gotham City Backlot has been renamed "Backlot" ... or at least until they sort out what it can be called since I hear that in the DC world of comic book wackiness, Green Lantern is not allowed to live in "Gotham City."

sfmm_feb2011_19.jpg.1a225550f37cebfda0f31cf5e929666e.jpg

"Ladder: The Ride" was getting a very extensive rehab.

sfmm_feb2011_20.jpg.9fbd7ed0e501d5f0aa5d67789861161b.jpg

The statue has been replaced by an orange spray painted wooden stake. I'm a fan!

sfmm_feb2011_21.thumb.jpg.5a60fe21e1d4d41742b818b2b9c2bb08.jpg

I'm told by Neal that this dot is actually VERY VERY VERY important to Green Lantern. Can any one guess what it could be? The right guess will win a TPR Bag-O-Crap!

sfmm_feb2011_22.jpg.2c14d285f880b5bade2464814bc18818.jpg

The old facade is STAYING! So all of you old dudes who can remember dancing here to The Go-Go's in the 1980s.... ROCK ON!

sfmm_feb2011_23.jpg.7524c92df6402224f4ce67df8f4aaca3.jpg

I just filled out the Mitch Hawker dirt poll and this one is my new #1 mound of dirt!

sfmm_feb2011_24.jpg.e6cdc9639c8067b3526d8b3a1fc8c937.jpg

Is it just me or do you also see the silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II in that mound of dirt?

sfmm_feb2011_25.jpg.12121e6046ccff17452023fd3f07a584.jpg

This mound of dirt was rougher than The Voyage. I ranked it dead last.

sfmm_feb2011_26.jpg.00aa89660ebbe3d28279119a1e0385d5.jpg

Anyway, facade staying...GOOD! Green Lantern on it's way...even BETTER!

sfmm_feb2011_27.jpg.ba91e3cae5bca50a9d04a6a58877522a.jpg

The gates were added as part of the agreement to get their alcohol license. You can now get beer at Mooseburger lodge! I'm down!

sfmm_feb2011_28.jpg.94751a713c2b2ee2f15bb26e1b4eb183.jpg

Some improvements and clean up has been taking place as Tidal Wave. All the queue has been pressure washed and touched up...

sfmm_feb2011_29.jpg.34c24ee7874a06155c3581f6a64d6e4a.jpg

And a few bits of theming have been added.

sfmm_feb2011_30.jpg.41f253defa34a8389bca64aa953212fc.jpg

Awesome! KidTums plastic slide is considered an exotic vacation!

sfmm_feb2011_31.jpg.bf04ce0bb2ec9a9ac8109bd6fb238003.jpg

WANT!

sfmm_feb2011_32.thumb.jpg.a89223d65d6b48bceb3411b39273d546.jpg

Mmmm....100 flavors of Coke!

sfmm_26.jpg.5bff4691583b75bc4a0f6dea4aa9a499.jpg

Spot the difference! Before....

sfmm_feb2011_34.jpg.75ef035463034871913314d05ba42dc7.jpg

After!

sfmm_feb2011_35.jpg.64e9bc8b87a2eed8a4148298d5e630a5.jpg

It has been confirmed...this sign is only temporary. Awww...it had really grown on me!

sfmm_feb2011_36.jpg.82249e4629e2e129e63ff5b08ab7e451.jpg

Deja Vu needs to kick the habit man...not sure who's in rehab more...Lindsey Lohan or Deja Vu! =)

sfmm_feb2011_37.thumb.jpg.138d0cf23bf004f6e1e8bf1ed2ddf1d5.jpg

"Epic!"

sfmm_feb2011_38.jpg.6c60994969e3ddb4cbf0112ed596f807.jpg

New hotness on the Carousel! Can you spot it? You will be about 30 minutes after the park closes! ;)

sfmm_feb2011_39.thumb.jpg.a8ecc12be10b7815f28eaed9569681ab.jpg

This is the closest we could get to the Green Lantern track. You can't see anything from the guest areas, but you can see it while on Apocolator. It's green. Shocking, huh? =)

track.jpg.c9455c8a7e764514823f2fc18e72bd36.jpg

...and it looks like this.
