I live in the great MidWest, and last year and this year, we changed our clocks later than we had in previous years- I've noticed lots of bank-signs and marquees nearby that are still programmed to change on the 4th Sunday of Oct. However, I get to sleep in an extra hour this weekend, so I am NOT complaining.

I've seen a few episodes and let me tell you, if any hospital I went to had THAT much drama always going on, I'd call out the state inspectors. Besides, I REALLY don't watch t.v. Would you eat a mint-chocolate breakfast cereal called "Curdled Turtles"?

"Last Good Time In Town"- The Eagles (Joe Walsh song- c'mon, how can you NOT like a new Joe Walsh song?)

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
JamesMC replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love it. I think the name is so Left Field for Six Flags that I almost want to applaud them for being really unique on this one. Originally I had heard the name was going to be "Wolverine" to tie in with the X-Men (I think) concept and make it an extension of the D.C. comics area, so when I read the final name, I was/am very happy. I'll be heading to SFSTL in 2008 for sure. -
Pointless new attractions
JamesMC replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Major Hypes that aren't worth it: The Dark Knight-(SFGAM) couldn't they have just enclosed Rajun' Cajun and been done with it. I would've rather settled for that and had them add a big new attraction to the waterpark. It HAS been rumored that Space Shuttle America and the Go-Karts are being removed for waterpark expansion. I'd like to see a propelled water coaster there- my .02 But I think I speak for all of the NW Indiana/Chicagoland area when I say- enough with the small rides- give us another crowd pleaser like Raging Bull. PLEASE!!! Tomb Raider at KI- yay- let's enclose a fun (but no great shakes) ride, theme it to death, with a muddled story line, and watch people wait an hour for it. It was OK, but I waited 35 min for it on an uncrowded day. What a waste. Wicked Twister- okay, so they put a spin on it literally, but why wait 45 min for this when you can get two rides in on Magnum? If it's a 15 min wait, then I'm all for it. Son Of Beast- it LOOKS just awesome, but when I ride I have to sing "Hurts So Good" and try not to cry. (I have not been on the Loopless Version which from what I understand is a little less painful) Excalibur at Valleyfair- it looks like it should be fun, but what a boring layout and ultimate Yawnfest. I add this only because when it was built they hyped it so much you would think that Jesus had been the carpenter constructing the ride. MGM Grand Amusement Park in Las Vegas- the two waterrides were actually cool and the over-sized Sky Flyer was awesome. Everything else sucked like a vacuum. Manhattan Express at NYNY Las Vegas- again, looked cool and like it should be fun, but I've never paid so much for a painful ride intentionally. If I think of more, I'll get back to you. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
JamesMC replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
"Viper" (a.ka. Snakes On A Train- for Frightfest) at Six Flags Great America- ten minutes before the park closed for the season. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
JamesMC replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Heard this in line the other day at SFGAM in line for "Superman". "No, they take this ride down every winter so it doesn't get any snow on the tracks" -
Any ride named after a movie or t.v. show or Corporate sponser. I don't want to ride Sony Splashdown, "The Wedding Crashers" bumper cars or experience "Frasier: The Ride".

I knew in my heart that DV was going away (because of the probable placement of a B&M Dive Machine in '09) but I was REALLY hoping that I'd get to ride it next year. As fate would have it, we did get to ride it this past Sunday. Me, my girlfriend and her daughter (who both had never been on the ride) got to ride it on it's last day. Had I seen the sign in the operator's booth I would've ridden it again before we left. Ironically, in that pic of the sign in the booth you can actually see me boarding (I'm in the red jacket with the blue jeans) for my final credit. I loved DV- other than in it's innaugural season. Other than that, there was only one visit when it was completly not running. There were a number of times that it was down for an hour or two while I was in the park, or that it opened late, but the last couple years that I've visited, it's been running consistently, and I've never had to wait more than about 45 minutes to get on it. I usually rode in 6-7-8 Wing Seat on the Right Side, and it's never been rougher than The Demon or Shockwave. If they HAD to pull a coaster out, I wish they would've taken out Vertical Velocity. I enjoy riding that one, but I like DV Much Much More. And I am Not Impressed with The Dark Knight. Sure, I'll go on it and get my credit, but it really doesn't sound like some big Whoop De Doo to me.

What is the best concert you have ever been to?
JamesMC replied to SonOfBeastSucks's topic in Random, Random, Random
Not even my favorite band, (though I like them) but I'd have to say AC/DC "The Razor's Edge" tour. Most energy I've EVER seen from a band at a concert and a great mix of hits and oldies. Plus King's X opened for them and are now one of my favorite and most underrated bands on the planet. Also- Kansas when the played the Holiday Star Theatre (now the Radisson Star) in Merrillville, IN. in 87. Again, great energy and a fairly intimate venue. I saw Eric Clapton that same week at the Rosemont Horizon and that show kicked royal ass too. As far as this year- I've seen three great concerts: Lindsey Buckingham at the House Of Blues in Chicago The Police- at Wrigley Field Genesis- at The United Center--------it's been a good year for shows. -

It's so hard to know that somebody important cannot be with us any longer. My thoughts are with you, and my condolences.

Nothing like hunting for an obscure thread way down at the bottom but: My first thought is what if you don't like chocolate cake? And even if you did, how big is the slice? I mean, is this a worthwhile proposition or what . . .I don't want to get involoved with a fly-by-night chocolate cake company. Where's the statistics and relevent data? Now I'm confused.

So the person driving in front of me in the left lane is going 38 in a 45mph zone on my way to work. When I finally got to pass I could see that the reason her driving was impeded was because she had 3 tiny dogs sitting on her lap in the driver's seat with their little snouts out the window. Although this should have been a cute photo op, she needed to tie the mutts up if she couldn't drive with them. I wasn't the only one who passed her, but I had the graciousness not to flip her off like the other half dozen people who she had tied up in traffic. I truly hope she got a ticket of some sort. That's ridiculous, but yet somehow not funny.

Game: When was the last time you...
JamesMC replied to onewheeled999's topic in Random, Random, Random
Being awake and near my girlfriend automatically implies at least a small degree of naughtiness somehow. When was the last time you went to a "Dollar" store, spent ten bucks and said "Hey, Check This Out!" admiring all your goodies? -
"Squonk" from Genesis' "A Trick Of The Tail" album.

Hi Elissa- If it'll fit I wouldn't mind "One Of These Days I'll Start Procrastinating!"

Here's how they stack up at SFGAM: Iron Wolf- I've seen this down for a day or two on occasion, but usually early or late in the season for what I assume is routine maintenance. Batman-(not to say it hasn't happened, but) It has been in operation every time I've been to the park, other than a random E-Stop, or slow loading. Raging Bull- Was completely closed for the day in it's debut season, but was "testing" all day. (Again, this was pre-summer season) Superman- Random E-Stops, guest sickness and SLOWWWWWWWW loading sometimes, but is usually up and running most of the day.

Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms"- 1st album recorded specifically for the (then new) CD digital format. Skip Money For Nothing, but check out "One World", "Your Latest Trick", "Ride Across The River", and "Brothers In Arms" Crisp production and the music literally "takes you elsewhere". Probably the best mellow album ever recorded.

Just got back from seeing Genesis at the United Center in Chicago. (My girlfriend extrodanaire bought me the tix way back in April for my B-Day). Awesome show, awesome sound, and awesome visuals. If you are going to see the remaining shows on the tour in either Colorado, or California and you haven't already seen the set list (it has not changed all tour), you can see it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn_It_On_Again:_The_Tour My only two (small) gripes: I wish "Hold On My Heart" would have been replaced by either "Abacab" or "Just A Job To Do"- though that is a good song in which to hit the restroom. Also, I would've preferred the LONG version of "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight". The "Old Medley" was fantastic, and they played tight. Lots of great Pre-Pop 1990's songs were featured. More than half the 2.5 Hr. plus show was dedicated to songs from pre-1987- good stuff. Real good.

were getting inebriated at a local Irish Pub, so by the time Barney made his appearance, they were too busy doing Jig Dancing to notice. Meanwhile, Mark Shapiro and The Secret Man Who Controls His Movements were secluded in a dark corner of SFMM near "Flashback". The Secret Man WCHM whispered to Mark . . .

I've skipped ahead (sorry) and not read all the replies but here's a couple reasons (which may or may not have appeared in this thread earlier- again, sorry for skipping, but I still have dial-up and AOL is being really slow for me tonight). 1.) They had no buyer for the ride and the cost was probably the same for dismantling in a traditional manner. 2.) Free Photo Op, Free Photo Op, Free Photo Op. By blowing something up you automatically get FREE PRESS in which to show not only your park, random destruction, but is also a teaser- venue in which to promote your new ride. Just my .02
