  1. Really good Christmas this year! -DVD of Sweeney Todd (on stage from the 70s, starring Angela Lansbury and George Hearn - the way it was meant to be) -2009 ACE Roller Coaster Calendar -Things that Make us [sic] (A book for staunch - and not stanch - grammar-philes and English verbivores like me) -Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell -Soundtrack to the new Gypsy revival (starring Patti LuPone) -Four bottles of vanilla Frappuccino -"Her Sacred Spirit Soars" (beautiful song by Eric Whitacre) -"Sleep" (also by Eric Whitacre, "Sleep" is perhaps the most beautiful choral music ever written - I got 8 copies because I'm doing it in an octet for small ensemble contest this spring) -SPORE (the best game in the history of all games)
  2. It definitely wasn't just a "bad day." I can usually tell if it's a bad day. These were hands down the worst employees I have ever seen. They were lazy, slow, ineffecient, rude, and unhelpful. It took ten minutes to load on train on Thunder Run. That's not something that just happens for one day. That's a serious problem with staff training. On top of that, the only rides I enjoyed were Chang and Thunder Run (I'm sure I would have loved Deluge, but I couldn't get to it). T2 is one of the two or three roughest coasters I have ever ridden, if not the roughest. Twisted Twins is long, pointless, and slow. Incidentally, this was the same day as the S:ToP accident, which only happened because of employee inefficiency. I don't mean to badmouth the park. I did really like Thunder Run and S:ToP was good before the accident. Chang's smoothness really surprised me, and I'm sure I would have enjoyed Deluge if I'd had the chance to ride it. But at the same time, some of the stuff I saw there was inexcusable.
  3. WOW old thread. Just pointing out that I went to SFKK maybe two months before TPR and it was far and away the worst experience I've ever had at a park. The staff was slow and rude, the lines were slow, the park was dirty, and there was no shade anywhere except a corner of the back of the park. I'm sorry, but I would absolutely hesitate before setting foot in the park again.
  4. That's funny because that job is exactly as awful as rides at Adventureland here in Iowa. Something in the name, I guess. Looks like a fun movie.
  5. Q1) Are you Male/Female? Male Q2) How old are you? 16 Q3) When you go to a theme park, do you prefer riding wooden roller coasters, or steel roller coasters? Depends on the coaster. Q4) Of all the different roller coaster trains, which do you prefer and why? Seated, standing, inversion etc… Seated coasters are nearly always better than stand-ups. Q5) What’s your most favourite ride? Millennium Force, Cedar Point Q6) When your on a roller coaster what do you think is the most THRILLING part of the ride? (Gives you the biggest buzz/rush?) Airtime and speed Q7) What do you think is the most SCARY part of the ride? (Makes you think twice about it?) Not all that much, but I'm not big on pre-launch anticipation or ultra-high positive Gs. Q8) Do you think roller coasters are LESS scary and thrilling after you’ve ridden them once before? Probably Q9) Do you like the idea of an extreme roller coaster? (Think roller coasters crossed with extreme sports) I'm skeptical. Q10) Themeing… Is the theme important in the overall ride anticipation and ride satisfaction? Depends on the ride. Some rides would die without their theming and some would be killed with theming. Q11) Queuing… Do you like to see the ride whilst in the queue? Or do you prefer the sense of not knowing what is going to happen? I ususally know what's going to happen anyway and I love watching coasters go through their courses. I much prefer seeing the ride. Q12) Because of the direct proportionality between rides and queue length, do you prefer short ride/short queue, or long ride/long queue? I don't think there it varies directly, actually. I think it changes from ride to ride and from day to day. These days, HUGE short rides get the longest queues (see TTD, KK) and longer rides don't get as much recognition (Beast, etc.). Then again, some short rides, like your average Boomerang, don't get all that much attention anymore and some longer ones, like Maverick, constantly pull ridiculous queues. Q13) Is there anything you would like to see improved/changed with roller coasters? If anything, I'd love steel and many wood coasters to be smoother. But I like where we are right now.
  6. I'm taking Physics this semester, too. What textbook do you have? My Precalc textbook has a problem about Beast. And my German textbook has an entire chapter about fairs and amusement parks in Germany. *drool*
  7. WOW! These are amazing. Hey, I want to thank you personally - if it weren't for Joyrides, I would never have gotten into roller coasters. So thank you so much for giving me a passion.
  8. Obviously, you've never ridden a GCI.
  9. In June I saw a few deers below the helix on Nitro during some night time rides. If an arrow doesn't scare them, a B&M definitely should I saw one maybe ten feet from Boss the other day. If a B&M doesn't scare them, a massive woodie should. Unfortunately, the line moved and I didn't get to see the deer's reaction to a train. But I really don't think it's going to be a problem. I would be surprised if it ever became an issue.
  10. Seventeen feet is not that tiny. Either way, there is no denying that Prowler is a true blue terrain coaster. You need only ride the train and maybe Fury of the Nile to see how thoroughly not flat that area is.
  11. There's quite a bit of banking in there.
  12. I had heard of it, but I didn't know much about it
  13. I went to the City Museum on Saturday, and I have to say, it was one of the coolest things I have ever done. PTR if I have a chance.
  14. Been having a good year thus far. 1. Precalculus 2. Chamber Choir 3. (S1) Accelerated Physics 3. (S2) Varsity Show Choir 4. Lunch 5. Deutsch III 6. AP United States History 7. AP English Language and Composition
  15. I was at the live announcement at 11 this morning. I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED FOR THIS RIDE. I'm not usually one for pre-opening judgements. But. Based on pretty much all of GCI's recent work (read: Renegade and EK), this thing would be completely, completely insane. Without being in the middle of a dense forest. Don't you even tell me this isn't going to be a kickass ride. I see no way this could not be a winner.
  16. Hamlet 2 Yes. As awesome as it sounds. 4.5/5 Rock me, rock me, rock me, sexy Jesus! He died for our sins! You'd better believe us! Rock me, rock me, rock me, sexy Jesus, all night long! I've been asking for racial understanding in my prayer circle, but I still feel uncomfortable around ethnics. I'm having a herpes outbreak, but you'd never know it.
  17. That's a group called Anonymous. Theye protesting Scientology.
  18. ^WTF, no way, don't be mean. Raging Bull, please. 1.) Kiddie Coaster somewhere... 100.) Talon, Dorney Park (should have been Steel Force) 150.) Voyage, Holiday World (should have been... well, Voyage) 161.) Avatar: Airbender, Nick Universe
  19. Doll Factory at WoF is also in a new building under Boomerang's lifts.
  20. ...August 16th... It's pretty obvious at this point that that's what they're aiming for.
  21. How about we just decide that it's a big roller coaster and enjoy it? Not every ride in the world is going to be Expedition GeForce. I'm sorry, kids, but it's true. I think this looks like a ton of fun. I'm so excited to get back to KI and get on this thing. I love the way it dives down over the paths. That's going to look very cool from both angles.
  22. That's the other thing. It's perfectly natural to be a little nervous before getting on a ride. I don't know of many people (enthusiasts included) who aren't a touch jittery before Top Thrill Dragster or other huge rides.
