Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
steel replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
Okay, so the weather here is stupid. On Sunday, it was 60 degrees. On Monday and Tuesday, it was 32 degrees. On Wednesday, it was 35 degrees. On Thursday, it was 22 degrees. Today, it was 14 degrees. And now it's going to get warmer again. -
Legend is so under-rated. I love that ride so much.

Adventureland USA Photo TR

Hey, my home park! That's not a very common TR. Great pictures! You should think about sending some of these to RCDB! Weird to see Mixer still there. Also, when did you go? I don't remember it ever being that nice outside in Iowa. It looks like California. Dragon is absolutely terrible. You should honestly make sure that you're completely willing to go through with it before you ride. Underground is a joke. It's a cute little dark ride, but it barely qualifies as a coaster. Tornado is decent. It used to be better, but it's gotten quite shaky recently. Outlaw, on the other hand... Wow. Outlaw is a fantastic roller coaster. Marathon Outlaw. As far as flats go, you've got Sidewinder, the Moser frisbee, Space Shot, the (really good) S&S tower, SplashOver, the Moser topspin, and Sawmill Splash, that waterslide thing with the Outlaw pictures. EDIT: Can't believe I forgot Falling Star. You must ride it. Don't skip it because you've ridden it elsewhere. This one is different. -
Actually, both pronunciations are technically correct. merriam-webster OFT-ehn is only correct people have bombarded them with the misuse. It may be in the dictionary, but it is definitely not the right way to pronounce it.

No, I didn't. This is news to me.

I saw it, and I thought it was interesting. Didn't have time to reply, though. -
^Oh, god, I feel your pain. Best of luck to you, man. Okay, seriously, people. Gyro. Not "Jiyroh." Not "Gyroh." Not "Hero." Not. "Euro." It's "Hyro," with a trilled "r" from the back of your throat and an almost nonexistant "H." This is an odd rant, but there's a fantastic gyro place in Des Moines called Ted's Coney Island and people mispronounce "gyro" all the time. While I'm on the subject... OFF-ehn, NOT OFT-ehn. The "t" is effing silent! You're not supposed to say it! "Anyways" is not a word. PLEASE use "There are" and "fewer" when talking about a plural, not "There's" and "less." (eg. "There are fewer problems here," not "There's less problems here.") Don't use "at" relentlessly ("Where are you at," "I'll tell you where it's at," etc.) You're already implying that it's there by using some form of the verb "to be." You don't need "at" to prove that it. This has just recently started annoying me. GAH! Why must I have such an ear for English grammar? And it's not just English, either! If you are going to try to pronounce German, know what "ch" means. If you can't make that hard "h" in the back of your throat, say "ck." It's never an "sh" sound when it's by itself. People get that from listening to some natives speaking. They let their tongues get a little too far up in their mouths and it produces a sound similar to "sh." That's bad German! Don't do it! Also, "w"="v" and "v"(usually)="f." It's interesting that I can handle the mispronunciation of "ü," "ä," ö," and "ß," but not "w," "v," or "ch." Sorry if I sound picky. It just gets on my nerves sometimes (especially that there are people in my German class who still don't know any of that).

Cedar Point or Kings Island?
steel replied to NINCUB's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Yeah, see, that's exactly why Beast is a spectacular ride. It doesn't have to be packed with wild forces to be exciting and enjoyable. I'm also a massive fan of the helix. I don't think I can ever remember having more fun anywhere than going through that helix in the front row at night. Sorry, that was a little off-topic. -

^^Hey, thanks for reminding me! Spongebob will be my 160th and Avatar my 161st. -
Well, I'm sorry that you feel that way. It's pretty exciting for me and all of my family.

Honestly, why does it matter? It's not like there is a prize for the person who has ridden the most. If they want to count it as a credit, then let them. Also, by using that logic, exact clones (like B:TR, Boomerangs, SLCs, etc.) shouldn't be counted either. I like to count relocated coasters as credits because of these reasons, plus the ones in my previous post: 1) The scenery around the coaster makes up part of the experience and new scenery is sort of like adding a new element. 2) I like to know if I've ridden a coaster at it's new location or not. If I don't count it and it's years down the road where I can't remember if I did or not, I like to be able to look at my list and see if I have. Well, I really don't care if you do it, it just doesn't make sense to me that you would. And your exactly right about it not mattering in the long run, but I just like to be truthful in my count. First of all, if you read my post, exact clones absolutely count, because they are not the exact same coaster (ie, X-Flight and Firehawk are one and the same - they are made up of the same molecules and everything, whereas X-Flight and Batwing are layed out the same, but they are made up of two different sets of metal). It's nothing like a new element at all. The addition of an element changes the physical structure of the ride. Just putting it a new location does not. You wouldn't count it as new if they moved it to a different part of the park. I can totally understand you wanting to know that you've ridden it, but you don't have to add it as a completely new ride to do that. You're right that it really is minor, but like I said, I like to keep some integrity in my count, even if it doesn't mean anything. -
Cedar Point or Kings Island?

I don't know. I loved KI. I don't know why everyone hates it so much. Drop Zone is really awesome and Beast is my favorite woodie ever (front row at night zomg). There isn't all that much to do, but the atmosphere is nice and the staff is fantastic. On the other hand, you haven't been on two of the three best rides at Cedar Point! If you can, go to both. If you can't, I don't know. -
I've MET her. We've been to the same family reunion. Her ex is my mom's cousin.

I refuse to think of Miranda Cosgrove as a Nickelodeon star. She will always be a School of Rock alumn to me. -

Fun to see this coming together again. Thank God Dominator was saved. No! You can't deny that it is the EXACT SAME COASTER! Would you count it as new if they just moved it to a different part of the park, painted it blue, and called it Spork? You would not. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. If you count this as new, you're inflating your count and making it inaccurate. -
The difference is that in a math class, everyone starts at the same level and works up. Everyone has to learn all of the same things. Take two students. One is an eighth grade boy who participates in track. The other is an eleventh grade boy who hates sports and does not get much physical activity outside of gym. Give the eighth grader a sheet of vectors and his head will probably explode. Make the eleventh grader run a mile and his lungs will want to collapse. Eighth graders don't have to know how to use vectors. Eleventh graders should. They're in different math classes. Both of their gym classes require that they run the mile. Everyone is at different levels in gym.

Omg, Ripsaw's station is really ugly. Wood should not be blue. -
Thankfully, I'm excused because of my full academic schedule, but I hated it when I had it. At my school they actually give you a grade on some of the stuff based on how good you are, which is stupid, because not everyone is going to be good at everything in there and their grades should not suffer for it. I think sports and show choir need to be PE credit. They all give you a workout. And if you need the health stuff, take Biology.
